Disney to buy Lucasfilm

I would like to see an expanded Star Wars area too but all this really proves to me is that Lucas will now do anything to make a buck.

Oh boy. A cynic.

Lucas says he is doing this because he wants Star Wars to continue after he's gone and that he wanted to set up the transition while he's still alive. I really can't can't see him doing this for money; he's got buckets of it already. I really think he's kind of beyond that at this point, honestly, certainly at least for his own personal gain. He'd have to go bonkers to spend what he has in the rest of his lifetime. He's not Scrooge McDuck.
I'm a Star Wars nerd and I don't believe that Disney is a good fit film-wise.
I'm a Star Wars geek and think it's a great fit.

Disney had little to do with the making of the Avengers. They just distributed it and then reaped the benefits. It's all kind of muddled together though. :)

It could work if Disney lets Marvel and Lucas Films do their own thing as they allowed Pixar at first. Time will tell.
Disney has already done that -- they didn't "just distribute" Avengers. They bought the rights to distribute it from Paramount because the latter already had a deal to distribute the film that had been made with Marvel. Disney announced they were buying Marvel more than three years ago. They have, so far, allowed Marvel to be Marvel. What they need to do is bring in the right people to work on the properties -- just as with any other property. I don't think they bought Lucasfilm to wreck Star Wars.

I actually believe I read that the Avengers script was done and Disney wasn't happy with it and wanted it scrapped and redone and also brought in Joss Whedon. They were def heavily involved in the success of the Avengers.

Actually Lucas made it very clear that he was done with the film industry earlier this year. He was very angry about all the critiques from his last three SW and the last IJ movies. Also all the fandom backlash to every change he made to his original SW series was wearing him down.
Redtails was the final straw when no one would help back or distribute it. George thought it was a very important story to tell.
If it was about the money he would have kept Lucasfilm. 4b is nothing to the SW juggernaut. He could make that in just leasing out rights and sitting on royalties, much less what another trilogy would rake in.

I guess I am the only one to see SW and Avatar together is a good thing. It will put a lock on what goes on down at the park. Avatar made more money than any other movie so having it in the park is a good thing. It may draw in a larger crowd to AK. You know HS is going to get more Star Wars stuff it is a perfect fit. It has the little bit set up and the space nearby (pun intended). This would bring people there and maybe move in about the Universal parks as destination.

Also I have no problem with Disney doing movies, they did the 4 Pirate movies, Tron and Sorcerer in the last few years and they were great I am sure these will be good too. And think about it Disney owns ABC and Lucas mentioned a TV series a few years back. This could make it happen. This should be good for fans and we win. I have loved Star Wars since '77 and I am sure look forward to this.

Now Disney needs a video game company, how much do you thing Sony is worth?
