Disney testing centralized FASTPASS at AK

http://www.disunplugged.com/2009/07/27/disney-testing-centralized-fastpass-at-animal-kingdom/

What do you think? I had my mind made up till I was at AK. Now I am not so sure.

Thanks for posting the info, Kathy. I was wondering what that was going to look like!

If there are not huge lines, I think it will make things easier for our group, as I would normally have to run to an attraction to get our FP and then run back across the park. I hope they are still there when we go in Sept and December!

Thanks for the blog, pictures, etc!

What did you think, Kathy?

How does this work? :confused3 I thought you were only allowed 1 fastpass at a time? It doesn't make sense to have a centralized fastpass location if you have to keep going back to the tree every time you are able to get a new one. Is Disney doing away with this "rule" then? And if they did, then what is stopping people from getting one fastpass after another for every ride? Wouldn't this make fastpasses unavailable to people going later in the day? I know I wouldn't want to disrupt my ride mojo every time I wanted another fastpass, by having to trek all the way back to the tree. Just a little confused. :goodvibes

From what I can gather there is one machine at the central location for each FP attraction, and the usual FP machines that the attractions have always had, are still there.

Though I won't know for sure until my trip, I think this is a good idea. Using AK as an example, I could grab my FP for EE at the central location, instead of having to walk to Asia, and then just go straight to Africa from the tree instead of walking all over.

This was my thought exactly!!! If I'm on EE and want to head towards Dino, I don't want to have to make a stop at the Tree for a FP. Seems like too much back and forth to be effective to me.

I am pretty sure they have said that the regular FP system is still in place...it is just an additional location where you can pick up a FP for a ride, so you don't have to, for example, go all the way to the Safari just to grab a FP for each member of your family.

I wish they had been doing this when we were at AK last Thursday -- it would have saved us tons of extra walking! Oh well. I think it's a great idea...I hope it works!

from the blog:
At first I thought that a central location would be a great idea. Now I am not so sure.

What made you change your mind? Or waver, anyway? I won't have the opportunity to go to the parks until well after this is implemented "permanently" or done away with, but from just thinking about it, my opinion has already changed from "hate it" (I don't like my tour plan messed with ;) ), to "maybe I can work with it:thumbsup2 "

Thanks for the pictures, btw! :thumbsup2

After realizing that they had the central fastpass and still had the ones at the attraction I changed my mind.

I had always thought a central area would be the best but I realized if I am at the Safari for example why should I hike back to the central area? I guess it comes down to how you tour the park. If they took out the machines at the attraction I think only have a central area would be a pain. I guess I am trained or spoiled by just going to the attraction and getting my fast pass.

Maybe if they set it up somehow that you could get more than one fastpass from the central area it would seem like a better idea. Just my opinion.

We used the central fastpass location last week. We did not know it existed. We got to the park at opening and were going to head over to EE when several CMs told us they were testing a new central location to get fastpasses. They asked what we were interested in, we got a FP for EE and proceeded to the safari.

The system worked well for us and I think it is a good idea. However, if they remove those near the attractions and go solely to a centralized location I can see long lines forming.

:lmao: So true!

We were at AK yesterday and I didn't see any centralized FP machines. The machines at It's Tough To Be a Bug were all covered at ~3pm. Also, they did not offer FPs for EE during EMH which was very disappointing. MK had FPs at EMH on sunday.

And the Yeti is definitely not moving.

I'd be okay with a centralized FP area ONLY IF they still keep them at the attraction. Can you imagine just one place to get FP's??!?!? The line for FP's would be horrendous!:scared1:

The morning rope drop crowd would be a mad dash to the fast pass location. No thank you. Especially if you could get more than one at a time? Then I see nothing but hordes of people and insanity. Seriously, if you can get three fast passes at once, wouldn't you go right to the FP area even if it meant waiting 15 minutes?

I really hope Disney doesn't get rid of the FP machines at the attractions.

Edited to add:
Sorry to go off topic, but I just had to say that I love your siggy, disneyfav4ever! I think I had most of those Rainbow Bright dolls when I was a kid!

Thank you! I changed it to that awhile back when a thread I was posting on was always talking about loving all things rainbowey. I have to say I think the site I got the images from is a little bit sexist though, since they only have the girls and not the red and blue boys. :rotfl:
