Disney Studios thoughts

Thought on Disney studios and if it is worth the cost of a one day ticket at this time? I was reading all the closures on the Disney website. It looks like half of the park is closed. Is this correct? Is Indy still running? How much time are people setting aside for this park this spring or summer with the closures. Taking my nephew this summer. It will be his first and most likely only trip. The rest of the party has been a few times. Thanks for the thoughts.

If you mean literally a one-day ticket, no. If you mean an additional day on existing tickets, maybe. There are a grand total of 5 ride-type attractions currently in the entire park, the rest are shows (including IJ). Does he like Star Wars? There's a fair amount of SW stuff there....

If you do mean a one-day ticket and this is first and likely only trip, Magic Kingdom is by far the better choice.

I have to add my 2 cents. We just returned home. DD 10 has been to Studios before and is a giant Star Wars fan. DD7 did not remember DHS and was excited to go.

*Despite the construction walls, we found the park to be clean and sparkling and the CMs to be great.

*We arrived 30 minutes before opening. We did JTA signup (must for DD10), ST (both girls loved it, should've gone again), shopping for light sabers, Dino Gerties ice cream, JOTLM, Frozen singalong (delightful!), Launch Bay (props, Jawa trading, shopping) and Streetmosphere before breaking for a late 1:30pm lunch. Returned at 5:30pm for Backlot Express dinner, JTA show (Darth Vader and 7th Sister), Launch Bay (2 character meets - Chewbacca and Kylo Ren), SITS fireworks at 9:30.

*We did not have an interest in any of the closing soon attractions on Streets of America and didn't miss them.

*We still missed Mickey and other character meets, ToT, RnR, BatB, Disney Jr, Muppets, GMR, TSMM, One Man's Dream and Indy. Also skipped the SW movies. Would've loved to sit down for a great themed dinner at Sci Fi or 50s PTC. We also skipped Fantasmic.

My conclusions - if you are not a frequent visitor I think that this park has a lot to offer with good variety and is still a full day experience. We are slow movers and I felt like we missed a lot. With our break time we could have added in probably 3 more attractions and a TS meal. I think WDW is going to great lengths to keep the park relevant and step up the offerings while constructions is ongoing. There is a new stage show, Capt Phasma procession, and nighttime SW spectacular (new fireworks) coming hopefully by June. Any SW fan will have a great day. For everyone else, there is plenty to do.

IMHO, this park is totally worth adding a day to a multi-day ticket, if not making a special trip for the SW offerings alone.

We have multi day tickets. No park hopper. He used to like star wars not sure now and I cannot ask as we are going to surprise him with the trip. I did not realize they added so many star wars things to the park. I have to confess I am unsure of some of the abbreviations used. What are you signing up for in the am? Is that to fight Darth Vader. When my kids were little you just showed up and they picked from the crowd. They are 18 and 16 so we have not watched the show in years. Usually when we go we spend the day in One Man's Dream and the drawing class then Roller coaster and Tower of terror if you can believe it. Any advice will be great. He just turned 11 and I measured all the kids so I could find out how tall he is and I think I came up with 56".

I have to say we just went yesterday and will end the week long journey there tomorrow, currently in MK. We love HS and were not big fans of Star Wars. We haven't even seen most of the movies but it's such a cool experience and the Fantasmic
Show is awesome and also the Star Wars fireworks just wow! Heck I even enjoyed the Frozen show, it's pretty darn funny.

- If you are adding a day, the cost could be as cheap as about $15--depends on how many days you currently have. For that, I'd say it's worth it.
- Currently, you can meet Kylo Ren and Chewbacca, or happen upon Jawas and Stormtroopers. You can do Jedi Training Academy (children 4-12 only), the thing where you fight Vader (or Seventh Sister) and see Kylo get his dark side on. JTA is something you sign up for now, only way to get in.). You can tour Star Wars Launch Bay, with various props and displays from the movies. You can ride Star Tours. You can see a couple of different short movies summarizing the saga or talking about making the. You can watch SW-themed fireworks.
- The drawing class is no more, the building it was in was entirely converted to the Launch Bay.

Jedi Training Academy. I believe the show is 17 min. Ages 4-12. Yes, to fight the bad guys. They sign up at breakfast and park opening and are full for the day within a couple of hours, max.

Animation Academy (drawing) is closed. Replaced with Star Wars Launch Bay. There is a SW movie, lots of props from the films, and meet and greets with SW characters.
He is tall enough to ride everything.
ST = Star Tours. Exciting motion simulator. Perfect for his age.
JOTLM (Little Mermaid), Frozen, and BatB (Beauty and the Beast) - probably not his speed. All are princess shows, but very good.
Disney Jr - puppet show for little kids. preschool cartoon characters. very cute.
Muppets - the old 3D Muppets movie. Funny.
Universal appeal - Great Movie Ride, Toy Story Midway Mania (long waits or FP), and Indiana Jones Stunt Show.

You have 2 choices for nighttime shows, and can do both if you're motivated. Fantasmic and Star Wars fireworks.

Maybe ask him what he thought of the recent SW movie. If he gets started raving about it, then he's a fan.

They really haven't closed a whole lot. The car stunt show is closed and I think a couple of other shows but all the rides that were there are still there. The backlot tour closed a while ago, the back streets will be closing to make room for Star Wars but there is still plenty to do there. We don't even ride RRRC or ST and we still find plenty.

A boy that age would love the studios, if just for the thrill rides alone! It's our families favorite park and we are not big on star wars. My kiddos love rockin roller coaster, tower of terror, star wars ride and toy story. We enjoy the shows, including Indiana Jones and the streetmosphere characters. We would never skip this park. In fact we've had some trips with 2 full days there.

I still think it's worth it. Yes, it's in transition, but there is still so much to do. We love TSMM, star tours, frozen show, muppets and I hate tower of terror, but others like it, oh and rock n roller coaster. Hate it, but if you are thrill seekers you may like it. We also enjoy strolling around the shops and we always eat a meal at either Brown Derby or Sci fi.

Where is sign up for JTA? I have photos on my flip phone (don't laugh I still use daily ) when my 18 yo old was 7. How hard is it to get in? He is 11

It's fairly popular, you should arrive at park open--if not before--to get a spot. Sign up is to the right of 50s Prime Time, between it and Indiana Jones.

We are frequent visitors and wouldn't miss including a day at HS!
I will not miss any of the attractions that are closed. I don't know Star Wars from Star Trek but Star Tours is one of my favorite rides in all of Disneyworld. We ride it several times in a row. Trying to be the Rebel Spy, lol.
ToT, RnR, Toy Story Mania!!! Fantasmic!!
It's crazy how many people think its not worth going to anymore. I love it there!

I'll go against the pack here and say it's not worth it. Not that the existing attractions are bad but you have 3 other Disney parks all much better, 2 universal parks, 2 Sea World parks and several water parks.
I have great hopes that it will be a great park after they put in all the new things. But not now with the limited offerings available.

I have to say, for us, since we have been to HS every year we decided this year that we will put it on hold till the work at the park is complete. We will be going back to Disney next year so we can see all the new attractions.

Next year? At HS? I wouldn't expect much new except a re-theming of Pizza Planet to a Muppets restaurant.

Agree with PP. I do not expect the new Star Wars and Toy Story lands to be complete until 2019 at the earliest.

Yeah I figure it will take some time. We take our time going thru the parks. So skipping one park for us isn't an issue. We are going to Universal for a couple of days.
