It is a dream for me to own DVC one day. I just watched the Disney Story Book Vacations DVC infomercial....and it is a real tear jerker. I am crying like a baby. lol.

Wish I was ready to buy DVC today.

I hope your dream comes true. We were on our Disney cruise last year and that clinched us for the Disney service. We bought onboard 200 points a year at BLT it was discounted and we got another 200 points bank for buying. Keep an eye out for specail offer or if you ever go on a cruise take advantage. We are also paying it off, which some frown upon but it works fine for budget.
Our first trip is in about 30 days. I also I plan on using RCI and some points to future cruises. Another thing some frown upon, but like others say their my points...vacations anywhere are special.

Again, pixie dust to you, hoping your dream comes true.

Open up your eyes before you buy. It's a timeshare and probably the most expensive timeshare there is. There really isn't anything magical about it other than you get to go to WDW and stay at a nice resort using your points. Unless you consider your money magically disappearing each month when you pay your monthly member fees.

It was on ABCFamily this morning. It just made me feel sentimental and miss my parents. They live across the country...and as I have gotten older our family vacations have become increasingly important to me. Disney just has a way of bringing out the "inner kid" in us...which is why i want to own DVC one day.

I just found the DVC infomercial on youtube. I loved everyone's segment and could definitely relate to yours. We have two baby grandsons and are taking my son, daughter-in-law and grandson (who will be 8 months old) on his 1st WDW vacation in 3 weeks. We are looking forward to many years of wonderful family vacations with our daughter, son, and their families!

OP: I hope you can see your dream come true and become a DVC member in the future. We have been members since 2006 and so far have had absolutely no regrets.

Luckily for us it is very magical We just bought and I am so happy.

When we were done on vacation we first went to a timeshare presentation at Bonnet Creek which I think is Wyndham. My husband was so close to buying in and I was not happy. Given that we don't have any children or siblings we have no need to pay for a timeshare that we can pass on. Maybe it is a deal for some but I was surprised at the price. On a whim we went to a DVC presentation and found it to be a great value for us. Every situation is different.

Considering you can buy in for as few as 100 points I think there are options for a lot of people. Hope if you ever buy in it is as magical for you as it is for us

Wishing you the best with your future purchase! Even though we financed and paid it off and get the annual dues bills, I would join all over again. The memories we have with our kids is priceless. Granted, you can have memories right in the comforts of your own home, but I love our Disney stays and Disney memories! I also love staying in places we'd never be able to afford to otherwise. This summer, we're staying in a 2-BR at Beach Club. Would have NEVER paid rack rates to stay there!

Nice thing about waiting is that it will give you plenty of time to research and decide if DVC is right for you. I think some people buy in quickly, and don't realize what they are signing up for. As for others, I think they bought in years ago, and aren't as happy with the changes to DVC and the appearing/disappearing perks and rising maintenance fees. For me, when I bought in, I understood that Disney had one obligation...to allow me to book, based on availability, with points at my home resort. That's why folks on the boards will encourage people to buy where they want to stay and for the advanced booking window. You never know what rules may change in the future.

Thanks for pointing that out, all this time I thought it was free. I certainly would not pay for something, fee's etc and then whine about it, I would sell and go on vacations I enjoy. I go because I LIKE it, I pay for with the money I have left after the goverment takes thier share and gives it to freeloaders. So if I and many others choose DVC because IMHO the service and facilities are worth it, it is our choice, we don't need someone trying to ruin it for us with constant complaining.

Not complaining at all. Just making sure the OP isn't looking at DVC with rose colored glasses. With all the upcoming changes, it may not be the best deal anymore. I paid $50 a point for my first contract directly through Disney, no more than $70 a point for the next four also through Disney. I sold off two of them because of rising dues. I can't imagine anyone buying in at $140 a point. That's outrageous. And with all the restrictions on resale contracts, DVC is keeping the ball in their court.

I'd like to bet a lot of those AKV and BLT contracts that you see for sale on the resale sites weren't researched enough when those owners bought in.

DVC likes to make it all seem so magical, and I will agree that stays at WDW are lots of fun, but it's not free (as you noted) and costs continue to go up. With the economy not doing so great now, lots of layoffs, foreclosures and bankruptcies, everyone buying into DVC now needs to know all the facts, not just the pretty, fairy-dusted ones.

As I said in the infomercial, there is no way to measure the joy DVC has brought to our family. You can't put a price on happiness.


Some people save for boats, travel trailers, etc. and continue to dump money into their toys year after year. They pay for boat slips, insurance, etc. Just like we pay year after year for the joy of owning DVC.

I for 1 have paid about 2500.00 a year for 15 years to stay in my home away from home at the cabins! That is over 35000.00 which does not include all the "same stuff, park tickets, food ect..." I pay now for dvc! Every year DH and I would say that this is probably the last year we will do wdw for a while but as soon as I got home I would be thinking about the following year! I was not one of those people looking through rose colored glasses when we went to more then 1 dvc tour - declining membership. Last year the light went on and we joined. I could not be happier and look forward to sharing our memories with our grown children, future grandchildren (if we are so lucky) and friends.

We are also very fortunate to have gone on many cruises, island vacations and Europe. WDW is truly our home away from home.

A side note - my parents are VIP members with Wyndham and have been trying to sell their timeshare and cannot. They do not use it as much as they thought and although my siblings and I have tried to help use their points everytime I look for something (with plenty of notice) nothing seems to work out!!!! My mom was shocked that our VGC sold in less then 24 hours for 1500.00 less then what we paid for it and we used over 200 points for a 2 bedroom 7 night stay at OKW. Only reason we sold that contract was we knew we could get SSR (THV) points much cheaper and wanted the 11 month booking window at WDW vs. DL.

I would have to totally dissagree with the comments from Deb and Bill. DVC offers Dh and I the most magical stays we could never have afforded without it. It has made it even more magical to be able to share our trips with other friends and family members.

We have taken other non-Disney vacations before and have ended up spending just as much if not more.

I would not trade my DVC for anything. Sure it has gone up in price to buy in but so has everything. I can remember before my DVC days getting a Value resort for $49 a night. Don't think that's happening anytime soon.
