I do. We have a Disney store at one of the outlet malls by us. Before we went in February, I purchased sweatshirts for all of us at $7 each along with other items for a fraction of what you pay at the resort. I usually find several cute goody bag things for our DS4 to keep him entertained at a fraction of the park prices.
Although I work at my local Disney Store, I have purchased shirts (as a guest) at the store and have worn them to the parks/on DCL. It's funny because last year when I was on the WBTA cruise, I was wearing a shirt from the Disney Store that said "You're Mickey Me Crazy" and I couldn't believe the number of CM's who complimented my shirt!
Many guests do come into the stores and purchase Princess dresses and shirts before visiting the parks. They are cheaper at the stores and in my opinion (as a guest of course, not a CM) they are also a better quality at the stores.
I will definitely buy some things before we go, such as my daughters' shirts to wear to the park. You can catch sales online and catch them a lot cheaper than they offer them in the park.
Of course we will still buy some things while we're there, but things like t-shirts we will buy online first.
Mickey ears/hats we always purchase on our first day at the parks. it's a tradition to hit the Chapeau on Main Street and pick out our hats/ears for the trip and get it personalized.
DD7 usually gets a new autograph every year to 2 years along with a new pen there.
Princess dresses I always let her pick out there as well except 2 almost 3 years back the Disney Store came out with a limited edition Snow White dress (only 2000 of them made). My DD7 fell in love with it and so did I, it's really nice with real velvet, a full stand up collar...just beautiful, however a not so nice price tag. I told her if she bought it she wouldn't get a new princess dress/halloween costume for 3 years in order to pay for it! This is her last year she'll be Snow White and she can't wait to be someone else!
I have bought shirts, sandals, bathing suits, towels, water bottles and other little toys there before for the trip.
Unfortunately, both Disney Stores within driving distance closed in the last few years. We did grab some Disney toys at Target or Wal-Mart, though. It was fun to pull out little surprises during the airplane flight, and once we reached our FW cabin.
I have both a Disney Store and a Disney Store Outlet relatively close. The regular Disney Store is a 5 minute drive from work, so I will run in when I know they are having a sale on T's and such. I recently was at the Outlet mall and walked into the Disney Outlet to find Disneyland 55 year anniversary stuff marked down way cheap. A stuffed mickey in a tux with the 55th anniversary logo on the bottom of his foot for 1.99. scrapbooking stickers, t's for me were 7.99. I cleaned them out of stuff that was not DL specific in my size. I am ready for WDW in Sept. We have also ordered DS t's from the website and save them for our trips when they have a good sale. he has requested 1 T in 5 trips to the world.
