Okay I have to vent. Please bear with me. It seems like every toy we have ever bought from the Disney Store becomes broken within 1 week. My kids are very gentle and not highly active, so it's not as if they are playing too roughly with the toys which causes them to break. It's driving me CRAZY!!! Today 3 toys broke while we were all playing together. I witnessed the action which caused the toys to break on all 3 occasions--believe me, there was not force involved in the least. We have never had a toy break other than Disney Store toys and I'm starting to think that they are pure junk. Has anyone else had this experience, or is there just a dark cloud over our household???

Yeah, we haven't had good luck either. I'd have to include many of the toys from WDW as well. I can think of several items of clothing from Disney Store and WDW that tore easily, lost buttons after one wash, came apart at the seams, etc. Still, I love Disney. I now only buy things at The Disney Store when they're on super clearance and buy no clothes at WDW.

YES!!!!
We had the Polly Pocket type princess dolls - JUNK!
Some of the art stuff - JUNK AGAIN!
And a vanity set - MORE JUNK!!

However, I do like the character playsets (the little plastic figurines with no movable parts), but I get irritated that they dont all stand independently. We have most of those sets, and they are pretty nice - other than that, I'm not terribly impressed by their stuff.

I spent nearly $50 on a hoodie for myself at Downtown Disney and it did some strange blotchy fade thing after the firstwashing (it was the first and only WDW clothing item we've bought and the first and only time I've seen that strange blotchy fade - and I've seen a lot of laundry!!!)

Everything we have ever gotten from the Disney store has fallen apart and broken during it's first use. My sister said the same thing. They are the junkiest toys I have ever seen. They don't even stay together when an adult puts it together the first time! I will not buy any more toys from them. It would make more sense to just throw my money out.

I have to agree; and my 2 boys are rough with their toys- my oldset DS is Autistic. But, it really seems that the toys I can always count on breaking are the Disney Store 1's.

We haven't bought many toys there but I bought each of my DD's 2 sets of their pj's and they didn't hold up well at all. Grandma got each of my DD's a princess cell phone that lit up and talked. The one given to DD#1 quit working within a week. I don't think it is broken though just needs new batteries but the other one still works, who expects to replace batteries after 1 week of use.

agree w/the clothing issue...toys haven't really got any.

DS got 2 of the sleepers for christmas time, both of them, the zipper came off. Luckily he didn't pull it off and put it in his mouth!! He's 1.

We agree! Imagine the one toy your child kept asking to get for xmas breaking 5 minutes into playing on xmas morning and he has hardly touched it! (not to mention we had taken the first one back after getting it ready for xmas morning and it wasn't working).

We've had multiple problems with action figures (ie: Incredibles), clothes seem to be hit or miss with the PJs being the worst as far as sizing and shrinkage. I still buy from them, but usually only during a good sale.

*Edit*- some of the pjs have shrunk terribly while others have been fine. (very strange....)

well I'm gonna go against the crowd on this one, I have bought many toys and clothing at Disney stores and haven't had problems. My girls got the Disney princess (polly pocket) things about a year ago and still play with them daily, and the clothes have always been great quality

The pjs from the Disney Store are shrinking? I have never had one shrink on me. All the clothes we have bought from the Disney Store seem to hold on. In fact, I have one pair of pjs that are a good 5 years old. Now, we have bought a shirt from the World and it shrunk and faded.

Those polly pocket toys are junk. We had one from toys r us and we returned it. We love the PVC sets from the Disney store. They are neat and better made than the ones from Disney World. The one we have from Disney world doesn't stand up.

We also have the castle playset from Disney World. It is going on 3 years old now and the only part that has broken is Sleeping beauty. We just bouught one of the doll sets(pvc) from Disney Store when they were on sale for $5 and she is loving it!

Why do you all keep buying this crap? If you know it's poor quality and high priced, wouldnt you just get other stuff?

Yes, and when we pass the Disney store in the mall, I deny the request to go inside about 50% of the time. When we do go in, it's just to look around at stuff, I ALWAYS refuse to buy stuff there unless she has done something very deserving of a treat.

Sometimes my wife will buy birthday gift there, but only very few, because she agrees that it's junk. Kids "want" all kinds of stuff, but there many different things that will actually make them happy.....not just plastic princesses.

It my job as a parent to make the decisions on what is worth buying and what is not, and to teach the value of getting quality toys and taking care of them.

Our only toy experience with disney store was a bad one too- when I gave birth to my 3rd my elder sister (who is also my kids godmother and a biiiig time disney fan to the point she's a disney bride :thumbsup2 ) bought my eldest son a "congrats big brother" gift from there (uk branch) of a music set- a toy drum with marracas etc inside it, within 10 minutes of it being opened one of the shakers had smashed through dropping from sofa to tiled floor- hardly a high impact accident for a toy designed for under 5s!

My sister was really disappointed at it because she likes to pride herself in being the cool aunt with the good gifts (she is very active in my kids lives) as a result we've both steered clear of buying any more toys from there.

Stationary has been great though- I often buy my eldest daughters school stationary (pens etc) from there before school starts up for the year, book bag too, and those have always held up great (actually thinking back it was aunty who bought the book bag as a christmas gift this year- eeyore one and she loves it!)

I haven't had any problems either. In fact, I only buy Disney Store PJs now. I love the PJ pals and the fleece footed jammies. I do size up on the PJ pals because they do seem to run smaller than some. I know they are meant to be tight, but a kid needs to breath! :goodvibes

She only has a few toys. I love the tub toys and the action figure sets. We have a few others too, and nothing has broken.

I am think most toys now a days are not made well. Of course there are the exceptions. I have never been pleased with disney store toys. I tend to buy little tikes and fisher price, almost exclusively. I cannot stand transformers, their parts pop out even when I or my DH are transforming them.

I just had to add about the clothes since I just went back and read some more. We have pj pals that are years old and hold up pretty well. I buy them several and I mean several sizes bigger.

But we just got the sweatpants and shirt (as a gift) and I thought it was so cute. I couldn't wait to go back and get another set until I saw how it wore. It washes fine but the shirt is so thin you can see the size stamp through the back and I couldn't get out a frosty stain (which I immediately took shirt off, scrubbed and laundered). I find this to hold true to thinner items, it is like I was about to scrub a hole in it. And the pants have huge white marks on the knees, almost worn through. I have never had a pair of DS5's pants tear at the knees yet. These have been worn at most 4 times.

I haven't had bad luck with any of the Disney items I've purchased, toys or clothing. If something I bought shrunk after one wash, I would politely return it to the store for a refund or store credit. Has anyone here taken items back that have shrunk or broken? What did the store do?
