We may get to go for the last P&P party and I would love to surprise my DD with a new princess dress to wear that night. She has several from places like Walmart and Target but she never keeps them on for long because they tend to be scratchy and uncomfortable. Has anyone bought one from the Disney Store recently? I'm just wondering if they are softer and more comfortable. I also was wondering how the sizing runs - large, small? TIA:)

At the disney store right now they have a spring line of costumes that should do nicely. I just bought the cinderella one for my very picky DD4 and she loves it. She says there ar no "itchies" as she calls them. The tops is made ov velevteen, and the sleeve elastic is encased in satin ribbon. The run a little big if andything. DD wears a 4T and I got the 4 for our november trip. She has plenty of growing room.

Thank you - that's what I was hoping to hear. Now I'm trying to decide if my little girl would rather have the Belle dress or the Cinderella. I think she would most like to have a Little Mermaid costume but they don't show one online and we don't have a Disney Store anywhere nearby anymore. I just want her to be happy and comfortable and it sounds like these new dresses may be just the thing. Thanks again.:)

They have the Ariel wedding gown and the mermaid outfit at World of Disney. Maybe you could surprise her by letting her choose her outfit once you arrive? Normally I'd say buy it and bring it with you because Disney stores always have sales, but if you'd be paying full price anyway.....

We just bought the Sleeping Beauty one for my DD 6th Birthday trip in June. She thinks we bought it for CRT the morning of her birthday, but little does she know that I really bought it for her Tea Party with Sleeping Beauty. That is her Birthday present, so she will not know anything until the morning of her Birthday!!! Sleeping Beauty is her favorite princess and last year we went on the Disney Cruise and she wasn't there, she is not one of the princesses on the cruise. So the morning of her birthday, she is going to open up two tickets for her and I to go to a Tea Party w/Sleeping Beauty!!! Sorry I am babbling and totally off subject, I'm just so excited!!! And, I have to keep this secret, it is killing me!!!:goodvibes

Lesley, babble along all you want - I know how you feel.:goodvibes We had originally planned our trip for the second week in June but have to change our dates because my little girl's daycare graduation is going to be that week. I couldn't let her miss that so it looks like we will go a week earlier and get to go to the Pirate and Princess party.:woohoo: My little girl knows nothing about the party and I plan to let that part be a total surprise. We will go somewhere earlier in the day and I plan to say I forgot something in the room and go back and set up her surprise. I'm thinking about getting a pirate Mickey or princess Minnie (or both) to "present" her invitation to the party and put them next to the dress so that it's all laid out for her to find when we get back to the room. I've even got the perfect card - she had wanted a pirate & princess party for her birthday and then decided on something else. Well, I had already found a musical Pirates b'day card that plays the theme song from the movies (which she loves). It doesn't have anything written on the outside and I think I can cover the birthday message on the inside with a piece of cardstock with an appropriate message and boom - P&P party invite!!:thumbsup2 Can you tell I'm excited too? By the way, I found the card at Walmart for anyone who might like to do the same for their little pirate or princess. They had princess cards too but I don't know how well it will work to cover the birthday message on it. Anywhoo, about the dress - I had hoped to take advantage of the sale the Disney Store website is having this weekend but I'd really like for her to have the dress she wants and they don't have an Ariel dress. Does anyone have any idea how much the ones at World of Disney cost? I may just go that route. I could have some fun with that too - maybe a Mommy/daughter shopping trip to get dolled up for the party after she gets her invitation?:goodvibes

Thanks for letting me babble and understanding!:)
My cousin (don't know which store in Disney World) told me that when they went 2 years ago, her daughter wanted the Ariel princess dress and that it was over $100.00. The dress I just bought DD at the Disney Store was only $40.00 regular price! Hope this helps. Don't know if you have a Disney store near you, but when I was in the Disney store 2 weeks ago, they had tons. They had the regular Ariel dress and the Bride Ariel dress...they were also $40.00.

Yikes! A hundred bucks is a little more than I had in mind. Maybe I'll stick with my original plan and bring one from home. Darn, I was really liking the idea of not having to figure out how to pack it without getting it wrinkled or having to hide it after we get there. I wonder if I could have it shipped to the resort in a dress box and have them hold it for me until I'm ready for it? I may give that a shot. Thanks again for the information - I'm really glad I found out how expensive they are before we got there. I just can't justify that much for a costume.

I would defnitely get a dress from the Disney Store. They are much better quality than the Target/Walmart version. The Target/Walmart version are perfectly wonderful, but if you want them to actually wear them to the park, the Disney Store version is just so much more comfy. No itchies at all. My dd wore her Sleeping Beauty costume to the PPP and was comfy all night!!!

Definitely order before you get there! I did the same with my dd (brought the Sleeping Beauty costume as a surprise). I just put it inside a plastic shopping bag that was not see through and put it in the suitcase so she couldn't see it. Each time we have traveled we have taken princess dresses and rolled them up. They pop out perfectly with no wrinkles!

Something else you can do is call the resort that you are staying at ahead of time and tell them what you are trying to do. Ask them if you can mail everything to them ready to go, meaning wrap the dress as a present with the invitation in an envelope taped to the gift with your DD name on it! Put that package inside of a mailing box and mail it to the resort, I'd also find out who you talk to and attn the package to them. Also, tell them that the package inside is all wrapped like a gift and you want your DD to think it is from the characters and ask them if when they set your room up for you, if they can open the mailing package and put the present inside, maybe on the bed for your DD to see when she gets to the room. She'll know about it a little before you wanted her to, but that way it would still be a big surprise to her and she would still think it was from the characters at Disney. Also, it would free up your time and you wouldn't have to sneak away to set everything up for her. I think it would be something fun to look forward to while you are there!! Just my thoughts and ideas. I wish I worked there, I would love to set all of this up for you. My travel agent told me I should be a vacation planner!! LOL

Oh, I just had another idea, forgive me!! You could also have them special deliver it to your room once you've arrived and checked in...they can knock on the door and when you answer it, they can say "Special Delivery for DD Name". Then she could open the dress and read the invitation!! I like this idea too!! How special would she feel to get a special delivery!! Sorry, I'm a little crazy about Disney and the magic and we haven't even been there yet, this will be our first trip in June!!!

We have always had great luck with the Disney Store dresses. We also purchased one through the BBB last time (Ariel wedding) and it was also super comfy!

I haven't been to the DS recently, and I do know that the dresses there in the past were too itchy for my DD. For Christmas I ordered her five dresses from mydressuptrunk on e-bay. She loves them, they aren't itchy at all, and the service and prices were very good. They have everything from Cindy to Tink to Christmas Belle (DD loves that one!). Good luck!!

I bought DD the Belle gown at www.disneyshopping.com and it was $34.99 and prettier than the ones at World of Disney in DTD!!!! And it also has the velveteen bodice so very comfortable!!! DD loved it! They also have Sleeping Beauty and Cindy in this style!

My DD was in a Disney Store fashion show a few weeks ago and wore the new Belle Spring Dress and I didn't think it felt itchy at all. I thought the dresses were very soft and pretty!

Thanks for all the replies and great ideas. After looking at the dresses on the Disney Store website together, DD changed her mind and said that she would like to have the Cinderella dress. So I've ordered that one and the slippers to go with. The shoes have a rubber sole so I'm hoping they'll be comfy enough since she will just wear them for the late afternoon and evening. I called yesterday and booked our package at Pop and a few of our ADRs (we're doing the dining plan for the first time). I couldn't believe it - I got an early dinner ADR for the Cinderella dinner at the Grand Floridian on the day of the party. We'll have dinner at 4:30 and can go straight from there to MK for the party. I'm so excited - I just knew the dinner at Park Fare would be all booked up since there is a P&P party that night. I figured everyone else would have the same idea - dinner with Cindy and then go to the party. I can't believe I was able to get in, nevermind get the exact time I wanted.:cheer2:
Now I just have to decide how I want to set it up for her to get the invitation and the new dress. I want to allow time for her to get the invite and the dress, then get her all dolled up - paint her nails, curl her hair and put it up, dust with some glitter powder - and then surprise her again with the character dinner. You guys had some great ideas. Thanks again.:)

Have you considered including a visit to BBB? If you do the MK location it would not be a bad trip to the folridian.

I am debating taking her to BBB if it isn't too late to get an appt. but it would have to be the one at DTD. We aren't doing a park the day of the party - just using our party tix to get into MK a little while before the party actually starts. I may do it because I was thinking of going to DTD that day anyhow but it depends on how much it costs. I've already gone considerably over budget on what was supposed to be an off-site, low budget trip and has turned into onsite w/lots of extras. My DH has been a pretty good sport so far but I don't want to push my luck.;) If it doesn't work out to go to BBB it will be fine - I think it would be a fun mommy/daughter thing to do her hair & nails & such together.:goodvibes

It sounds wonderful - I think the mommy/daughter time would be even better than BBB and I can sure appreciate the plan changes. We went from a romantic getaway to bringing the 5 year old!
