Can you use a Disney Store GC to buy Disney Dollars?

I have a 75.00 mypoints webcertificate. I was thinking of going to the catalog and buying the GC and saving it until I'm ready to go in Nov., so I was wondering if you can use the GC to buy the DDs. It would help with a nice dinner out.

I have done it at my Disney Store with no problems but I have heard from other that their store has said No. I would just call your local store and ask.

Also go through mypoints.com, right now you can get 4 points per $ spent.

Our store in Kansas City would not allow me to purchase Disney Dollars with a Disney Store GC. I think it would be nice if there was an across the board policy at all of the Disney stores regarding this. :(

Toledo, Ohio and Ann Arbor, MI would not let me, I called both
stores and spoke directly with managers.

There is an across the board policy that you can't use a GC to buy DD. The problem is that there are a jillion different rules and policies, and unless it is something that you do regularly you just can't remember all of them and not everyone takes the time to look them up because that can be very time consuming.

I looked into this last week. When you look at the Disney Website, it clearly states that GC's are like cash-that's why they don't charge shipping. I even printed the page of the computer. I then called the guest service 1-800 # for the site and asked if #1- We can purchase theme park tickets with these GC's
#2- We can purchase DD with the GS's
I was told "Yes" to both questions. I plan on bring the page from the website along to the store, and I will fight it out with them if they give me a hard time.
Seems silly we receive so much contradicting information.

I was in my local Disney store yesterday and asked the same question, I was told no. On one hand I understand the whole concept of why it's not allowed but on the other hand the Disney gift cards are considered money and people should be able to use
it as such.

I asked about this today at our local Disney Store. They said that you can buy anything in the store with the gift card- Disney Dollars and park tickets included.

This is a really sore subject with me. I've read posts on these boards and on others discussing the same issue. I called my local TDS 3 times and was told that YES, I could use GC and buy Disney Dollars. So, I purchased $75 worth of GC through Mypoints (I was still a little leary and didn't want to get stuck with hundreds of $$$s worth of GC), took them to the store and guess what, they wouldn't let me use them. The manager wanted to know the name of the person I spoke to. I explained I called three different times and spoke with three different CMs who all stated that I would be allowed. The Manager then got snotty and said, "Well, they're wrong!" The store was crowded and my DH was in a hurry, so I didn't press the issue. Out of curiosity, I called the same TDS several minutes ago and guess what the answer was when I asked them the same question.....YES! This infuriates me. The closest store to me is about 45 minutes away from me. I had specifically gone to the mall only to visit TDS and get Disney Dollars.

As LoriKay has stated, it would be nice if there would be a definite policy on this issue.

Maleficent1959 I understand what you are saying, but I've worked in retail and there is no excuse for managers to not know the rules. It is the managers responsibility to follow proper proceedure. If it is something that isn't allowed, it should be made clear to ALL employees. Maybe the cash register could be programed to not allow GC to be used as tender on certain transactions.

Just my thoughts.

Denise,

I agree with you one hundred percent. The problem in the stores is that usually the CM behind the cash register is not the manager but some CM who either knows, thinks they know or guesses at correct procedure rather than ask. It is the manager's responsibility to tell everyone the policies, but too often they are just told to read updates and you know as well as I do that some people aren't going to do that. We have people in our TDS that have been there over five years, and I'm amazed at the stuff they don't know.

Everyone in our store knows the policy and that is because of that promotion they did when you could get a $50 GC with an annual pass. Some CMs told people they could use it for DD to use at the park, only for those folks to be told no by the manager when they came back and tried it. We did it for a few people who had been misinformed, but you can bet that our manager was sure to speak with everyone so that we didn't have those miscommunications again. Of course, now we have mostly new people who were just told to read some printouts....

to avoid any problems and its worked 3xs already!!!

I orded the webcertificate from my points and when I get the info
I print the page with my name addy and account # exp date etc.

I then take the print out to TDS and ask them to run and card through manually and I buy $DD with it.

I explaine the CM about these rewaards programs and what you can earn and all do with it that why they know why I don't have the plastic card only once I had a CM who said she needed the plastic card so I hjust went to a different store and just happened to be the manager she was very interested in the rewards and put the card through manually with no problems at all and this like I said was the manger. THe other two times the CM put the card in manually with no ? or problems just depends who you get!!!

I guess thats like buying DD's with a C.C.(web. cert.) instead of buying a disney gift card and trying to convert that to DD.

Seems simple enough, I've never used a webcertificate before, it sounds like its just a credit card with a credit balance. Is this correct? If so I can take anywhere that takes a credit card?

in order to use the webcertificate anywhere you need to buy the plastic caard for I think its $6.95 and I'm to cheap to spend extra on a card so the easiest way I do it is to take it the info that i printed from the webcert page this way I have the $DD in my hot little hand!!! i never tried this but it should work when you make ressies on disney hotels just give the reservations person the account # and exp date over the phone you could also do this to pay down your hotel bill good luck any ?S please write

Can you use the GCs to buy the park passes? I had asked at my DS and they told me I could not buy Disney Dollars either. But I still need a park pass and I figure I could buy a whole bunch of GCs through a site that sells them and then use them to get the pass so at least I get points for the purchase.

So, is it o.k. to buy park passes with the GCs?

To add even more confusion---- I went to TDS today and asked if I could use a GC to buy Disney Dollars and the CM said she would check. The manager on duty did not know and called another store. They said yes so I quickly bought the Disney Dollars before they changed their mind. LoriKay, I live in the Kansas City area and was shopping at the Independence Center store. The Oak Park Mall store ( I assume that is where you tried) is the store that said yes so you might try again or even try the Indep. store. You never know what the answer will be on that day.

FYI-

We picked up our AP vouchers from our local (St. Louis) Disney store today and paid with our gift cards bought online. I was sure there would be no problem buying them with the gift cards( I checked this with 3 managers before buying the GCs).

Now the good news. After a couple of emails back and forth I was just credited with 4200 MyPoints ($1050 x 4 pts/$)

And was able to "talk" the manager into letting me use the remainging balance on the last GC to buy $40 worth of Disney Dollars with it.

So I got 4200 points and 10.50 back from my CC reward program. The only thing that could have been better is if I could have caught a deal at the dis store for buy a pass and get a $50 GC or something like that which they ran last year.
