Disney Store closed in Baybrook Mall - Houston

Wow, I used to go there regularly too. That mall has lost a lot of great stores. :(

I noticed the other day that virtually everything is on sale at our local Disney Store. I wonder...

:( At least the one in the Galleria is still open. I just bought a Mickey t-shirt there last weekend.

I used to work at that store a few years ago. They closed the 3rd week in March. A couple of friends were still there.

I remember when it first opened in 1992. A co worker called to tell me that I had to come in early that day. I wasn't happy when she told me but she told me that if I wanted to miss out on The Disney Store opening it was my own fault. I was there early with a huge smile and a bigger bag to go with it.

I was in that store so much that when we had a gift exchange at work for Christmas, the guy that got my name went into the store and asked one of the CM's what I didn't have. And they KNEW! LOL

I miss that place.

Happy Thoughts to all,

Yeah, I saw that a couple of days ago. :( I was sorry to see it go, though at the same time I haven't bought anything but a DVD in there for years. Now I get the DVDs at Best Buy or Sam's instead.

I didn't know there were other Baybrook shoppers on this board!
I was there yesterday, actually, and noticed its absence :( It's a little bittersweet because Bebe, its replacement, is one of my favorite places to shop - but I will definitely miss our Disney store.
Baybrook has been under construction for so long now - everything is changing, leaving, or coming (Arden B's gone, Aeropostale came, etc.) Anyone know what the big department store that used to be the men's Dillards is going to be?

It sounds like a lot has changed at Baybrook. I used to love the Disney Store, Warner Brothers Store and the huge Natural Wonders they had. There was also a cool music box store that carried a lot of Disney boxes and things. Not to mention Macy's.

I didn't know that one of the Dillard's stores closed. It always seemed weird that they had two Dillard's stores.

Yep, those places are all gone...Warner Brothers turned into an Abercrombie & Fitch and Natural Wonders is now Hot Topic. I loved that store so much - when I was little, my brother and I would wander around, amazed at everything. Memories! :( The San Francisco Music Box Company left about a year ago too - it was a Mish Mash and then got turned into an Aeropostale about a month ago.

Anyone remember the old AMC movie theatre that used to be there?

I remember it. That used to be the entrance into the mall. I we moved there it was half the size it is now. Do you remember Chelesa Street that was across from the movies. It was weird having a bar with live bands playing on Friday and Saturday nights. Now there its Marble Slab, a Texas shop and some other stuff. Spencers was located on the other side of the mall near the cookie shop.

That was awhile ago when we could hang out at the mall or go rollerskating at the rink down the street.

I'm dating myself now. I'll stop while I can.

I went to check out the Baybrook Disney Store in March (while my SO was having her taxes done at H&R Block in Sears) and it was already closed then.

I was talking with a clerk at Electronic Boutique on my last visit and he said he had heard the building is going to be a parking garage. I'm guessing it might be for employees since there is always plenty of parking, with the exception of the Christmas holidays.
Do you remember Chelesa Street
Wow! Talk about a blast from the past. How long ago did that close? I know it's been quite a long while ago.

Yep. It was pretty state of the art for it's time, but got killed off when all the multiplexes began opening. It was new around the time the Loews opened on Fuqua (now a dollar theater), the Loews opened on 45 between NASA Rd1 and Bay Area (now closed) and the GCC opened at 45 and NASA Rd 1 (also closed).

Good times...Good times...:D

The second Dillards used to be Macy's.

I think that Chelsea Street closed back in 1984 to 1985. My one and only time I got to go in there was when my best friend and I went to meet her older sister. If I remember right, she like or was seeing someone in one of the bands that played there. That was when smoking was allowed. I smelled awful when I left there. My eyes itched too.

Happy thoughts to all,,

They did the same thing to me...twice. I went into our city's "big" mall, walked up to the Disney Store, and it had vanished without a trace. So I called the one at the next closest "big" mall, and they had closed too. I wondered the same thing when during my last visit, a whole lot of things were on sale.

The good news is that after yearning for months over this loss, I recently found out that the warehouse for the Disney Catalog Store is about an hour away from me, they have a small outlet store that has GREAT sales, and annually they host a HUGE tent sale that has some really, really great deals.

I know this is silly, but I can't tell you how my heart jumped when I saw Walt's big, red, signature on the top of that very huge gray building. It made me smile..::yes::

Are there any Disney Stores left in the Houston area? I know there was one in the Galleria and one in Willowbrook Mall, and I think Deerbrook Mall. I always liked the convenience of being able to buy park tickets there.

There is still one at West Oaks Mall which is located at Hwy 6 and Westheimer. It was there two months ago.

yeah, the one at West Oaks ws there at the end of April.

I miss Natural Wonders store too :( Willowbrook mall has The Discovery Story still, whereas they closed the one in First Colony mall. I always bought alot there at Christmas.

Has the Texas City Mall hurt the Baybrook Mall's business? I always wondered if it would cut into it.

From what I have seen, I don't think it has. Crowds at Baybrook seem to be about the same as they always have.

I agree - the Mall of the Mainland is pretty empty and only has a few good stores, Dillards and Bath and Body Works among them. Baybrook is much nicer and always much busier.

I've only been to MoM a couple of times, when I happened to be in the area for something else, and both times it was like a ghost town. The first time I went was about a year after it opened and I was surprised at the number of empty (no tenant) stores.
