Disney Store Charging for Gift Boxes?

same here in Italy

This adds nothing to the thread but I wanted to say when I was Italy I had to buy something at the store in Venezia and Roma. I felt like such a dork (I know Don, what else is new:))

Carry on...

I have worked in retail for over 20 years and all of the mid level retailers started cherging for boxes years ago. I'm actually surprised that DIsney held out for so long. I also worked in the gift wrap department for 5 years and let me tell you the heat and nasty words I had to endure when we started to charge for boxes. It definately pisses customers off but like airlines, they keep coming back. It was actually funny to hear people complain about the charge for gift boxes and how they are never going to shop here again as I rang up their $300+ order, and saw them in the store the very next week. As a consumer, yes it irritated me, but it made me become more creative with how I "wrapped" a gift, and as someone who is probably more picky about how a gift is presented that your average person, that aint easy. The only way corporations will know that a "new policy" is not winning customers over, is to put it in writing. Fill out the customer comment cards, send an email, write an old fashioned letter via snail mail, or stop shopping there.

I was upset when I found this out the other week, but it's probably because of people like me that they do it. I always asked for a gift box even when I what I buying wasn't a gift.:rolleyes1

I am still at a bit of a loss as to what other retailers, besides Disney and Bath and Body are charging for boxes. I went shopping with my sister yesterday. I asked for a box at every store we bought something in and was given a free box each time I asked at the following stores.

1. Chico's (women's clothing)

2. Hollister (VERY loud teen clothing store) I got two boxes with tissue paper
AND a headache free of charge!

3. Dillards Dept. Store - had to show receipt, but box was free

4. Cold Water Creek - (women's clothing)

5. C.J Banks (women's clothing)

6. Sports Nuts - (sporting good store)

7. JC Penneys

I know in the grand scheme of things this is not a big deal. I'm sure alot of you are thinking "so don't get the box then" and you are absolutey right, but it just irks me. I buy alot of gifts at the Disney Store and it's fun when the kids tear off the wrapping paper, see the Disney box and get all excited. But oh well, I guess they'll just be more surprised at the presents that are in the plain boxes this year.
