Disney stopped selling toy guns

After getting clobbered hard on the back of my head by a light saber when I was there in early December I wish they'd quit selling those. Or at least make sure they are kept closed.

A Dad was carrying a child on his shoulders and the child was swinging a light saber around. Lucky me happened to be in front of them and got a very hard hit on the head. That child was really strong! At least the Dad apologized and told the child to stop swinging it.

And there goes most of the souvenir dollars from boys! Nice Disney. Guess the kid will be getting even more stuff from universal then. Not sure why he needs so many wands from wizarding world but oh well.

TBH, as a Canadian, and with us flying to Disney all but the one time, my kids have never bought anything even remotely gun-like at Disney.

And they still came home with plenty of souvenirs, even the boy.

(Those HP wands are pretty sweet, though! Especially the interactive ones.)

I'm sure airline employees will appreciate it. We were bringing our nephews a toy gun from Pirates almost twenty years ago and you can't take them as carry ons. Not aging kids, we had no idea. I'm sure airport staff heard an earful from a lot of parents over the years.

anyone in the parks have CONFIRMATION of bubble guns no longer be available?

Ditto. My son is 18. There has never been a gun purchased or even desired in his copious Disney shopping.

We brought DS's stormtrooper blaster (big) on carryon just fine about 5 years ago LAX to SEA. We didn't want to, but we have softsided luggage and the housekeeper at Disneyland Hotel, after ignoring the box for 4 days, threw away the nice hard box for it the last full day. He's also carried on his lime green clear pirate musket. And a variety of lightsabers. Oh and Han's blaster, which is fairly bright orange from Disney.

TSA doesn't allow realistic replicas of weapons. That's why the Disney weapons had gotten gaudier and gaudier, so they weren't realistic replicas of anything. And of course there's no such thing as a stormtrooper blaster, etc, to make a replica of.

Oh and there's some horribly loud blaster belonging to Greedo, I think. That was carried on in August.

TSA out of the Anaheim area, at least, has had some sense. They understand what things actually exist in the world that they need to be worried about. That and the packaging surrounded it gives clues to them.

What a very sexist thing to say...I think there are plenty of other souvenirs for boys - AND girls.

Sexist to express my experience and opinion based on my son's experience with souvenirs? OK. Impossible to argue if your mindspace is there already. :)

What are all these other souvenirs people are speaking of? Ever since my dear sweet 2 year old *bit a "blaster" shape into a piece of toast he was eating* and started "pew pew pew"ing, this pacifist mom kind of gave up on that front. He has a large "weapons bin" in his room that holds the Nerf blasters, star wars, pirates, etc weapons, and the swords (galore) and light sabers... Any non-clothing non-weapon souvenir he has is because I thought it was cute.

And, awesomely, he has zero interest in real guns (despite my brother's annoying urging).

Poor Star Wars franchise. That's going to be a LOT of plastic on the scrapheap.

.

This is the parent's responsibility. I know when we bought our children's light sabers, we were told at the shop (we did the build a light saber thing at DHS) by the employee that it must stay closed while in park. Which we enforced. But I'm with you, we certainly saw many cases where it wasn't. I'm sure they could come up with something packaging-wise, but let's face it - there'd still be that parent who opens it for their child.

At riverside now. Just got a phone message saying no toy guns allowed in parks and no masks for adults. Sad imo, I remember being a 7 year old boy 32 years ago and being so happy in my coonskin cap toting around my musket.

no masks is all they said or no costumes? Curious because our teenaged daughter likes to dress as a princess and a Jedi while at Disney - she doesn't wear makeup or pretend to be 'that' princess but has loads of fun the in Elsa outfit her granny made her. I'm quietly stressing about this new rule - I want everyone to be safe but have a hard time even vaguely thinking she looks scary/ threatening or hiding something ....

Odd thing to say. My son brings home enough to fill a small suitcase every trip, and not a single one of those items has ever been a weapon of any kind.

All that was said was masks for ages 14 and up. No use of the word costume. Was at mk all morning, we don't carry bags and walked right through with no extra screenings, didn't see any either.

thank you - that gives me some hope :-) Also I do think it is cool that they actually called everyone on site.
