I posted this on the codes and rates board and have no results so maybe you can answer my questions. I have a question about Disney stock. I read that if you own a share in certain companies that you get discounts, well Disney was one of the companies listed and I am hoping this is true. Does anyone know if a person owns a share in Disney if there are any discounts for the parks or hotels, maybe a percentage off tickets/room, food, room upgrade, or anything else associated with a Disney vacation.

Nope there are no longer discounts for Disney stockholders, sorry. We are minor stockholders (more than 1 share less than 200) . Year ago stockholders could get some discounts but no longer...

As a former cast member and owner of 500+ shares in Disney stock there used to be a time when we would get one day passes with our portfolios. I never used my 1 day passes as I had a silver pass then, but haven't seen them sent out in years.

We own a bunch of Disney stock and have owned it for several years, and have never seen anything about a discount. Sorry!

I got my dividend check for $0.25 last week. I haven't decided what to spend it on yet.:rotfl:

Can't have been 25¢ since the declared dividend for shareholders of record on December 9 is 35¢ per share payable on January 19th.

I got a check for $0.35. Woohoo, cost more to print it and send it!

Who else has the joke of citadel stock?? wasn't it some sort of merger with Disney stocks??

Any case, it's now part of my 401k and it's still only worth a penny. I'm just glad to see the Disney stock go up from what it was a year ago.

I have that! haha- didn't it spin out of a Disney stock deal or something- one day I just saw it sitting there in my portfolio- I was like what the heck is this? when it was trading at 40 cents I figured what the heck- and bought a hunderd shares- Now it at like 20 cents.

I do! It isn't even worth cashing out. I've had Disney stock forever and never got a discount on anything. I have my dividends reinvested so don't even get a .35 check :)
OT but I also own a bit of Burlington Northern and Buffet is buying it and I can't figure out what the offer is so will just let it default to whatever it is :)

Well then someone screwed up because ours was .25

Ours was also for 25 cents.

If I remember correctly they took out 10 cents in taxes!

If could be that if they do not have a Social Security number for you they will take out the 28% backup withholding (which is 9.8¢) and send it to the IRS.

how can they take out taxes if they have no SS # to which to attach those taxes? I believe I can handle paying the taxes on .25 cents myself and the last time I checked, my DS who this stock belongs to did not work for Disney so they should not be taking SS or FICA tax out for him.

Also for Disney to with hold any backup withholding they would have had to send us 2 "B" notices, of which we did not ever receive. My DS has own this share of Disney stock for 12 years.

Topic 307 - Backup Withholding

Banks and other businesses that make certain kinds of payments must file Form 1099, an information return, with the IRS. Generally, these payments are not subject to withholding; however they may be subject to backup withholding. Payments that may be subject to "backup withholding" include payments of interest, dividends, rents, royalties, payments to independent contractors for services, and broker payments. Under the backup withholding rules, the business or bank must withhold on a payment if:

The payee did not provide the payer with a taxpayer identification number in the required manner,
The IRS has notified the payer that the taxpayer identification number provided by the payee is incorrect.
The IRS has notified the payer to start withholding on interest and dividends because the payee failed to report interest or dividends on an income tax return in prior years; or
The payee failed to certify that it was not subject to backup withholding for underreporting of interest and dividends.

Payers who withhold income tax under the backup withholding rules must show the tax withheld on a Form 1099. The payee receiving the Form 1099 should report the amount of tax withheld in the payments section of the appropriate income tax return. Generally, the payer must furnish Form 1099 to the payee by January 31; however, Forms 1099 from brokers are due by February 15. The payee should contact the bank or business that made payments if the Form 1099 is not received by the due date.

More detailed information on backup withholding can be found in Publication 1281 (PDF), Backup Withholding for Missing and Incorrect Name/Tin(s), including the procedures for payers, and in Publication 505, Tax Withholding and Estimated Tax.

If this is the case, I will be expecting to see my son's 1099 by 2-15 on his whopping .25 earnings!
