Numerous reports that the pulse night club shooter originally planned on attacking Disney springs.

We all need to be vigilant . Too many people think Disney is place where nothing bad ever happens.

I do not want this to become a debate on guns.

Just want us all to be aware.

Disney is not exempt from thieves, perverts, and remains a major terrorist target.

When waiting in line for security checks keep this in mind.

When you do come across a police officer thank them for being there to protect us.

As DVC people we may be more likely to notice something out of the ordinary.
Just like in our home towns.

I saw that article, security had been seriously increasing for years I have noticed. I always thank people checking bags and only time I don’t mind a line LOL!
I am sure Disney spends a huge amount of money on security. They pretty much write their own rules on that land. They probably have cameras in the bathrooms. Guess what I don’t care. They know a terrorist attack at Disney would be huge.... and terrorists know this. So I am ok with any security measures Disney comes up with to keep their guests safe.

Well, read the news article....

1) DS remains without a Security perimeter. It is a PUBLIC MALL, NOT a Park.
2) It continues to provide "parking dodge" issues for the REAL Parks.
3) Disney, despite major challenges, put enough REAL Police presence into this PUBLIC MALL, to defeat a terrorist. GREAT job - likely cost them a bundle.

So - my personal comment.... NEVER CONFUSE DISNEY SPRINGS WITH A DISNEY PARK. Not the same. It is a PUBLIC MALL. WDW does a fair job with it, but like any PUBLIC MALL, just about any degenerate can simply walk in.

YOU will chose if you wish to go there, or not.... WE tend to severely limit our time there, and are usually on high alert.

All personal opinion - I'm not necessarily right, no one else is necessarily wrong.

DW, DGS(6), and I were at DS the day the shooter cased the place. We were at SSR the morning of the Pulse shooting and as soon as my DW heard the news she stated we are going home, not going to US like we had planned.

Last May we entered Disney Springs late one afternoon and within 10 minutes, my DH and I looked at each other and said, "Something's up." There was a heavy police presence at the bottom of the parking garage escalators and we encountered what we believed to be several plainclothes officers in our short walk to the Marketplace area. Sure enough, when we pulled up the news on our phones, the Ariana Grande concert shooting had just occurred.
That just proved to us that Disney is aware and being cautious.

Easy to forget Disney Springs is not in the “security bubble” .
With all the changes I am excited to see it. We will go one night and being from NY, I pretty much operate on high alert.
I don’t envy the chief of operations for Disney security.

Great post, Dean. You are right - Disney Springs is a public place - essentially an outdoor mall. The park has security checks, a handsome admission cost and a lot of security people (including plainclothes). As a NYer, I have two towers to remind me we need to always be alert. Disney is no different.

you know this got me thinking again about the reimagining of DS from DTD years ago. wasn't the point of getting rid of the bars and nightclubs have to do with security and keeping it more family and such. they were having trouble with locals and crime?

but now there are more bars and the night life kinda places than before?

don't get me wrong I think it is awesome now, but isn't it more of a night life bar scene (maybe bar scene isn't the right term) than before?

There is no sense to be spooked by an idiot who made "plans." As a New Yorker, I remember that years ago some miscreants thought they could cut the cables to the Brooklyn Bridge and have it crash.
But thanks to security---and the difficulty of carrying out the cutting---they moved on. So all we can do is make things more difficult for these jerks, and keep vigilant.
