I am considering the Spirit of Aloha Dinner on the last day of my visit but am I going to get the bang for my buck? How is the show? How is the category 3 seating? Is it entertaining enough to keep my DD2 in her seat? Finally how is the food?

I've seen more negative reviews on the Luau than positive ones.

In fact, in the dining reviews sub-forum above, WorldBouncer did a review of the Luau with pictures of the food. He confirmed that the photos made the food look a lot better than it actually tasted, and I don't think he recommended this place to anyone.

We did it in October 08 and thought it was fun, but the food was not very good and the service was pretty lackluster. We were on DxDDP so it wasn't a big deal...but I wouldn't go again and DEFINITELY wouldn't pay "out of pocket" for it.

Have you been the the Hoop Dee Doo, If you haven't I would try there first.

Now, granted, we went 10 years ago so things may have changed, management, food, what-have-you.

The show was ok. A Disney show, enjoyable, but not wow! The food was ok. The service was horrible. We were a table of 2, DD6 and myself. The only time the server paid any attention to us instead of the bigger tables (ie, bigger tips), was twice to bring me alcohol drinks I said from the get go I didn't want, only soda. We had to ask for more food.

It was the one and only time in my life I left without leaving any tip at all and was so peeved I hand delivered a letter to them the next day. Never heard a peep from them except the gal who took my letter said sorry and she'll give to the proper person.

We still refer to it as the Hawaiian poo-ow. :rotfl2: At least I can laugh now, as a single mom w/ a young kid I was  for blowing such a chunk of change. Live and learn!

I'm surprised to hear the first few replies. We did the Luau last trip and loved it. We thought the food was very good and we are planning to go again on our upcoming May trip. We paid OOP and felt it was well worth the money. We also did the HDDR and hated it, food and show. I guess it just goes to show that there are different opinions about everything.

The only thing I would say is I'm not sure it is worth the money if you have a 2-year old along, unless he/she is very well-behaved. I also would not do anything less than Category 1 seating. Category 3 seating is far in the back and I don't think it would be as enjoyable to have to look over everyone's table to see the show.

We went in Dec. and my husband wanted to leave after we finished eating because he was so bored. Others sitting in the back had the same idea.

Thank you so much. I have decided to hold off. My daughter is entrenched in the terrible two's so I will wait! Nor do I want to be way back.

I wouldn't go there with a two year old. The show was a corny disney show, I wanted to hang myself!!

The food I thought was good.
I don't think that a two year old would stay for the show, and I didn't think that it was worth the money.

Maybe a Character dinner....a two year old will like that!!

It was like that when I went too. Most of the people at my table were gone before the show was even over.

I did it once and won't do it again. The best part was hanging out on the beach after the show!
