Disney Skyliner Reportedly Crashes Again at Disney World

I hope everyone is ok. That looks like where the gondolas for mobility guests feed back into the main line. Is that automated fully, or can human error be a factor?

I am arriving next week and it will stink if the Skyliner is down like it was after the first malfunction. Hopefully they learned from that one and can be operational again soon.

They generally have a set amount of time that they have to unload and load each gondola. Can't remember if it was 45 seconds or 60 seconds, but even after they press both buttons, I feel like it took an additional 5 or so seconds for the gondola to move.

(Family generally uses a ECV and wheelchair, so we did do 2 gondolas on the mobility section quite often the last trip)

I actually rode in one of them one time from Epcot back to the CBR base, but couldn’t recall whether it was totally automated or not. It seems like it should be semi automated, in case a person needs extra time to load, where a CM would press a button once it was ready, and the system would take over for the actual merge. From your description, it sounds like it may be the case. I was concerned when I saw that one of the mobility gondolas might be involved, as there could be more opportunity for injuries with heavy equipment on board. Thanks for the information!

I saw this last night and was surprised they got clearance to restart the SkyLiner transportation system on property. I wonder if they are running today for guests. Considering 2 gondolas bumped into each other and windows shattered and considerable time to access guests in handicapped zone, etc... and then taken to hospital Thankfully no injuries , ?trauma? Who makes the decision for clearance after accident? Oh yeah it is Florida, not California Regulations.
So does this make anybody think twice and why is it not News -worthy enough to be on discussion boards today.? Well it concerns me.

The computer moves the cabin out of the handicapped load area on schedule. The cm pushing the button just gives the computer permission to do so, saying that loading is complete and it's safe to depart.

So the cabin doesn't start to move when the cm pushes the button; the cm has to be holding in the button when the computer wants to start motion. I believe the entire line will stop if the button is not being held down when the loading cabin is scheduled to depart.

So what do you think caused another collision incident ?
Mechanical, tech, human, error? Weather .
The first incident made me wonder if the group of teenagers were jumping inside the cabin... I used to go to Charm School with Girl Scout group in 60s at a major dept store and we would constantly jump on elevators and try to hold the doors closed... so I am not saying anything bad about any person involved, it was just me thinking about me. Doing stupid things ...

After the handicap cabin leaves the load zone, it stops for a few seconds just short of the main track. The cabins on the main track appear to pass very closely to the handicap cabin waiting to enter the main flow.

One possibility, and this is purely a guess, is that the handicap cabin overshot its stop location and was struck by a passing mainline cabin. I think that could be caused by a mechanical failure of the tire that brakes the cabin at the stop location, or a loss of adhesion between the tire and the surface it contacts on the cabin hanger, or an electrical failure in the motor that turns that tire.
