Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

Is there any reason to think this is not a possibility for what they are building?

Besides the fact that "source with knowledge of the situation" have reported that it will be a gondola, the turn at boardwalk is to sharp for that, only a gondola makes sense with that small a turning radius.

I noticed solar panels on the ones in Bolivia and Venezuela. I wonder if those provide power to some sort of cooling system?

The one in London also has solar panels on the cars but they do not provide enough power for AC. The AC in that system is powered by super capacitors that rapidly recharge while the car in the station.

Everyone keeps comparing the possibility of no buses with the Monorail resorts. That said, each of the monorail resorts has another option for getting to MK (1 walking, 2 by boat), so I don't think they'll get rid of buses from these resorts, perhaps just use fewer of them.

I'd agree with you on that.

There is no way that Disney builds a transportation system without A/C.

This was posted on another board in a discussion about the gondola system:

"There's a Gondala system which is really Hi tech in Madeira - which has high temperatures such as Orlando - with No AC - I went on it last year and it was warm inside but soooo much more comfortable than a bus that's full of screaming and yelling and loud talking which is all they ever seem to be now.
The breeze came through the window and it was really quite comfortable. There not exactly going to dismiss this temperature issue but they wouldn't make everyone get in a sweat box without thinking of the consequences."

After living in South Florida for the past 5 summers I would be completely blown away and beyond shocked if there was NO ac in these things.
I am just saying based on most other Gondola systems and rumors I have read/heard it's shaping up as if these won't have AC.

Yet that's the word on the street.

Wait, what?

We're all speculating so much, but I can't even imagine how there would be no air conditioning. Without that, it would have to be open-air, which would present more safety issues/people-control issues.

Not to mention if they are open air can you imagine how cold they would get in the winter months? I know it is still often pleasant during the day but it can get cold and that would be just miserable if they were open air in January.

Maintenance costs and lack of theming. Created bad show because you saw backstage and rooftops

Also it was at the time of "add a ride, remove a ride" - basically costs vs customer interest plus, like you said, being able to see the roofs of show buildings

I remember the last time ever riding it and thinking "looking at the roofs and supports for the fake facades kinda takes away from the theming..."

If I remember correctly, 1 of the reasons the old skyway system was removed from Magic Kingdom was for the safety of the people below it. People would throw various items, cups and other assorted trash etc. down onto the people below. Sometimes on purpose, sometimes just to get rid of it but sometimes it was a major safety issue. That would be the same problem with any new system if the cabins were not completely enclosed. Especially going over highways etc. I could imagine people trying to see how well they could hit a vehicle below.

If for no other reason, that's why I think the new campus will be completely enclosed with AC.

No second option for getting to Epcot, though.
