Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

I just booked pop for the first week in September, finger crossed it is opened. it will be so hard to just look at it for my April trip
I agree! From your ticker we arrive the very same day in April and 1 week after you in September!

On a different note, I hope they allow strollers to be left open as it will be much easier at the end of a long day to let a child keep sleeping rather than have to maneuver them, stroller and stuff on and off the skyliner. I did this for years on my own in buses but also allowed other guests to exit the buses first and then took the time I needed to maneuver myself and my daughter off the bus. This will be more difficult to do on the gondolas.

I don't think waiting for cabins will be a big deal. Just like it isn't a big deal for front/back row on the coasters. Yes, some people do it, but not nearly as many as at most parks. At Cedar Point some coasters have 15 trains worth of people waiting for the front and back rows. At Disney it is rare to see more than one trains worth waiting. I think a lot of this is because of how good Disney is at herding people, a lot of people won't ask.

On the gondolas, I think the answer will be no if it is more than one cabin or if there are people waiting behind you.

I'll bet money that strollers will be allowed to be left open. Collapsing them on buses is a law that doesn't apply to gondolas. It will also be easier to get on the gondola wheeling on a stroller than collapsing it and carrying all the junk and stroller.

Of course the speed of that video is done for laughs, but it looks more-or-less realistic played at 1/2 speed. What's interesting about it when you look past the silly zooming is that most of the cars are leaving with no more than 3 occupants.
that is because most likely the line was moving fast.. when we ski it common unspoken rule that each group of persons, families get their own cabin even if seats are empty if the line is moving fast .. as you are getting on, the family behind you just takes the next one almot simutaneously. Now if its morning and the runs are just opening and you have massess of people waiting its expected people split up and fill every seat.

Disney will definitely have ushers, probably a few. Someone up front to break people into groups, someone telling the party when to start walking out of the queue and another one point and trying to rush people on.

I was also thinking of the weight issue. I hope I am not offensive, but the reality is, when I compare the body types we see while skiing and the body types we see at WDW, there can be a big difference. I am not sure what the max load is on these things? Will they allow a one car to carry mutiple 300-400 lb persons who might be a parent and has a kid also on the lap? Or those wheelchairs things with batteries alone weigh a ton. how would they train a college program CM to guess total weight?

Waiting one gondola sure ... but I am sure they want to avoid where there are like 20 families waiting for specific ones bogging down the entrance
and giving kids everything they want doesnt teach them to enjoy that moment of wow! I got lucky and appreciate it.. We ski every year at the same resort and their gondolas are all red except for the golden gondola... my kids would also try and find it on the line while riding and OMG that moment when we got lucky and was in it was for them like christmas.. Now I could have been THAT mom and said we'll wait for it to come, but no.

It's already been explained that an ECV weighs around 180 pounds and in order for it to be in the gondola you have to fold up a five seat bench. Hence gondolas with ECV's actually will be lighter than those full with ten people.
To your other worry, I will put it like this. If 24 professional NFL offensive linemen arrive at the station simultaneously each weighing 320 pounds, I would bet only four of them at a time get in each gondola meaning it would take them all total of sixty seconds to load into 6 gondolas.

I'll eat my hat the day I see them actually loading 10 people into those.

That said, your point still stands. :)

All of the testing videos are very exciting!!! Kind of bummed it won't be open when we are staying at CBR the first week of June. I guess it's just another reason to book another vacation!

Good for you ... but based on past experience at WDW there are plenty of “than moms” (and dads) than might gunk up the works

While the Swiss mfr says each bench is designed to carry 5 adults, Disney is wisely considering 8 adults to be a full load, because Americans as a whole are likely to be larger than Europens, AND because most Americans have a cultural bias against sitting really close to other people -- we also need more "personal space", as it were.
For that reason, CM's would not need to gauge weight, only size. The NFL linebackers mentioned above each will take up quite a lot of space even on the platform.

I'm beginning to wonder if, if all the cars have character wraps, that might be used to help with loading. How many? Mermaid. How many? Ducks. How many? Star Wars.

Correction: I Freudian-slipped myself with a typo, LOL. Disney is WISELY considering, not WIDELY considering ...

Don't look now....I just did...
I was looking at and modifying a couple reservation for my trips in November and December and have verified that the rooms at POP have gone up by about $15-$30 per night on a standard room !!
I had posted last year when the 2019 rates were released that the room rates at POP had only gone up by a dollar..I booked these rooms shortly after that. The good news is I was able to add on a few days here and there at the same rate :)
So the Skyliner has done what a lot of us thought would happen....$$$
Of course there might be a discount for the fall but I'm guessing not.

edit: a couple of the nights stayed the same over a 10 day stay.

This could be Skyliner, SWGE or a combo of both.

They were still the same rate last week.
Maybe with the testing going well they decided to pull the trigger on the increase.

I think it is more the bump for SWGE - but those rooms on the Skyliner that have that more direct access to DHS will likely see more of an increase than other resorts (by insuspect everything will go up some)

That said, over $200 some nights for POP? Crazy talk
