I haven't researched the details or what kinds of temps these things are usually used in, and without rehashing the issue (!!), I just wonder what it'll be like when they have to stop for some reason and people are stuck in them for a while in August, let's say... looking forward to those threads...

When the monorail stops, does the AC continue working? Iv'e never been on a monorail when it broke down

There are gondola systems in some pretty hot and humid climates. Break downs should be pretty rare since there are multiple backup systems that can keep the line moving if there is a problem with the primary drive system. Even if the cars did have AC it likely wouldn't help during an extended stoppage since the AC systems that are currently in use need to be constantly re-charged as they go through the stations.

I guess it depends on why it broke down. If it's an electrical failure then the AC wouldn't work either.

Regardless, a monorail wouldn't heat up as quickly -- it'll start out cool because of the A/C, it's closed to outside air, and it's larger.

Why does everyone seem so happy that these don't have AC?

I think it is more that it has been “confirmed” now as every time the topic came up there would be, um, discussions back and forth about “no way they won’t have A/C!” And “well, vast majority of gondolas don’t and everything we are hearing is these won’t”, etc, etc

So can avoid all of that going forward!

I guess it depends on why it broke down. If it's an electrical failure then the AC wouldn't work either.

Perhaps the new monorails will have onboard energy storage to run in limp-mode in the event of electrical failure (partition some of the energy to A/C and/or traction). For the gondolas, I am not sure if they have a non-grid tied backup propulsion system.

Diesel powered backups are pretty standard. Some systems have multiple but that is usually the last resort emergency option, at least for the lifts I'm usually on. And at least one day I've experienced where the entire resort lost power, they used the diesel back ups for the entire day.

Looks like the advantage goes to AOA and POP guests. Being at the terminal end means they are the first to board, especially advantageous in the morning...or maybe there will be vehicles starting at each resort? I guess it's kind of like a conveyor belt. I'm interested to see what these gondolas actually look like. I've viewed videos of other gondola systems people have posted, and they don't look like they hold that many people.

When I stayed at Poly and took the monorail loop over to MK, sometimes the monorail cars were full before reaching the GF, people had trouble getting on.

There will likely be gondolas in every station and on the line at opening. Pop/AoA will have to transfer at CBR to the DHS or Epcot line.

Everyone has to get off and change lines at CBR, so Guests boarding at CBR will be on equal footing with other resorts. Riviera is the only resort where there might be an issue, especially going to Epcot where they'll be competing with Guests from all 3 other resorts already in the cabins.

The cabins are designed to seat 8 or 10 passengers. Someone with a lot of experience has said these look like 10-seaters. There's been some speculation that Disney might load 2 less than designed to allow more space per passenger.

I remember this was a big problem during the Fantasyland Expansion because people started standing on things to get pictures over the wall so they really started cracking down on all over the wall photos.

The consistency of the CMs is the lack of consistency. I remember Fantasyland Expansion, one day DS was taking a photo (at the time had a new 360 degree camera on a unipod). Really didn't take anything to take a photo over a wall ... a CM walked up to him and said "are you a blogger?" .............. he just said yes to see what they would say (he's not and already had his pictures) and they replied "Oh, well if you don't get the shots you want you should ride Dumbo and that will give you some great overview shots." Never had anyone tell us we couldn't take photos over walls.

I can see telling people they can stand on things or climb things - last thing they need is some blogger falling and injuring themselves and suing Disney
