Disney Security Level Raised

When we entered MK Monday 10/24 at 8pm there weren't even security personnel at bag check. We were able to enter the area through the east side (resort bus riders pre 9-11). Right in front of the turnstile is where they checked our bag. DD12 made the comment that maybe they aren't doing bag checks like USO. But the next day they were back to normal.

I think civileng68 is right. We were there the first week of Oct., headed back to the WL in our rental car after a long day, and saw much security on the road just before we make the turn to WL. I assumed there had been a wreck or something, but they were checking each car, asked us where we were going, looked at everyone's face, etc. When we got back to the Lodge I stopped at the Merchantile for something, and asked the CM who checked me out if she knew what was going on. She replied that there had been a terrorist threat in New York, and it was probably due to that. It appears Disney is ready to respond to anything, anywhere.

we entered Epcot yesterday afternoon and then again last eveing and security was the same as always. just opened the bags and looked in w/o question. Sec. guards talking to everyone and being very friendly and making remarks about certain "funny" things in line. There were guards all around inside and outside but nothing extra special

It was the Hallowishes at MK for MNSSHP. They have to re-route some of the roads because they turn off the lights. This occured when we were there, and we were stopped by security as we were approaching the area. I had a moment to chat with security because we were also stopped at a red light, and I asked him what was going on. He asked where we were headed so that he could have us headed in the right direction because up ahead (toward MK) was all dark. This will occur until MNSSHP ends, so heads up!

For example, all of Disney is a no fly zone. youll never see planes flying over Disney. But ok i have 10 days to catch on here, so look for me in another post, as well as my trip report.

Actually the zones are not there anymore. Many of the zones were removed over 3,000 feet.

Right now both helicopters and airplanes can fly without permission over the Disney property as long as they are above 3,000 feet.

If you go to the parks now you'll see helicopters and planes flying directly overhead.

That is true...I notice that every time we go. The only reason why I do notice planes, helicopters and most recently hot air balloons (on out last trip in sept) is because I also thought it was a no fly zone as well.

Disney as usual for us as well. The new line is near space mountain because that is where the trick or treaters come out after walking through a special trick or treat line. They did have a securtiy CM, because it was so dark and people seemed to want to go backwords in the line.

At night during the Halloween wishes, which is more like the Christmas wishes and all over the park traffic is rerouted some, so you don't go right under them..although my hair got "wishes" dust while we were there, so I guess we do go under them some while in the park! Definately more "real" police stopping people for traffic infractions..about time!

Security check at the door, a waste of time IMO. No where as thorough as in past trips and I thought those a waste of time as well. Not even looking in bottom of strollers, or making us unzipper more than the largest zipper on our back pack.

Ive only been to wdw 3 times and have been surprised that all 3 times they pretty much dont inspect your bags.. they open it up, look inside and thats that.. One day when we were there a few months ago.. I started to open the bag and was told "thats ok you can go ahead" and they never looked at all.. Not that I would ever do anything, but it scares me that anyone could bring anything in there .. Why dont they inspect a little better on a day to day basis? :confused3

Last Tuesday we noticed a 3 or 4 armed policemen in MK (could have been the same guy). We also noticed a mixture of City/County/State police cars and officers at the end of the resort bus depot at MK. They had a map of some kind that they were studying intensely. Almost asked "is there a problem officer?". Wish I would have.

When we entered parks this week the security guys several times asked everyone to open every zippered compartment and they looked in all parts. I also saw them having people open up everything they had in their strollers. I thought they were doing a pretty thorough job, but it may vary with when you enter and also who is doing the checking.
