Does anyone know why Disney's Security Threat Level was raised this past week?

We were told that the security level was raised above the normal this week and that all items would be more thoroughly inspected and that you should really reconsider what you decide to bring in.

Then later that night when i was driving to the kennel to pick up my dog (I go to the car and then leave the lot and come back to pick up my dog) I was stopped (we do this all of the time and NEVER have been stopped). We noticed that going towards the back rodes, which take you to the Kennels and/or the contemporary and on to back portions of the MK that the traffic was heavily backed up).

Then we were stopped at a checkpoint and an officer questioned us as to where we were going and why. I was very surprised then I remembered the other employee earlier in the day mentioning a security level being raised.

Then for some reason which I still have not figured out, I noticed coming out of Splash Mountain that you could not leave the normal exit. They had an area cordoned off by security officers. I still dont know what it was but, does anyone have any info on the security threat and what it may have been?

bTW, this was AFTER the hurricane so it was not related to that.

Interesting, both times this week we were there our items where checked normally (which is barely) and it didn't look like any raised security at all.

I agree with the bag checks.

Even the same day that the employee made the announcement the bags were checked, really scantily, which is normal.

However I did notice it in the two other incidents more than anything.

I didnt know if anyone knew of any reasons?

It was first announced when we were boarding the tram. our tram was delayed a few moments as a security vehicle approached and spoke with both the driver and the rear attendant. After a few moments they came back and made the announcement.

We've been there when there were sherriff's milling about the parking lots, the turnstile entrances, and in the parks. I asked about it when we got back too- it was about a year or so ago. That time it turned out to be some high profile political figures were visiting and they had kicked security up a notch.

It's Halloween weekend, so that always has something to do with raised security, don't you think?

Ok, Im confused :rolleyes1

I thought that I should have explained it....

Reese Witherspoon decided to take her daughter Ava and a few friends to DL for her birthday. Evidently people and paparazzi were actually physically pushing her and trying to trap her for a picture. CM's were trying to help her out. It was really sad.

That is pathetic. I saw an interview with Dr. Phil (yes I watched Dr. Phil :badpc: ) and he talked just last week to 2 Paparatzi members and they claimed to be the "good guys". So there are some "good ones" out there but, some of these guys should be charged with stalking. I really think there needs to be harsh laws against these guys.

I LOVE DR. PHIL! And I heard the story because Reese was on OPRAH. So, do you feel better now???? :rotfl2:

It's sad, but living in NYC high security doesn't even phase me any more. We've been on high alert since 9/11 and I doubt we'll ever go back to anything lower than that. It is nice going to DW and not having to think about your surroundings at all times. But I suppose even the happiest place on earth gets threats and such from time to time.

Well it is amazing how you adapt. Notice when 9/11 first happened everyone was pretty much VERY aware if not paranoid of their surroundings?

Well now people are really just tougher. Granted some of it is foolishness and arrogance that we fail to continue to realize our surroundings. Part of this country's problem is how easily it forgets if not forgives.

However, I do think that it is a testament to how people can adapt so well to things.

After 9/11 I was the one at Disney who was watching everything. While I do wish security would be a little better upon entry to the park, I personally do not feel any fear at all, even if there is a threat.

Back to the point...........if the national level was raised last week, that would have likely been the cause for Disney raising it's own level.

Ok, I must have been in a cave or something but why was the security level raised last week?

Oh - was that you that I saw on the other side of the cave? If I had known, I would have said hello.. :teeth:

Good thing it wasn't anything really serious or I would have been a goner.. Didn't hear a thing! :earseek:
