Disney Security Guard Arrested in Sex Sting

Well, when you employee 60,000 people, some of them are going to get arrested at some point.

Not that this isn't a big deal, but it doesn't make me feel like Disney is less safe at all, stuff like this is going to happen.

SICK! :faint:THANK GOODNESS for undercover ops/stings like this!:goodvibes 17 people including Christian Academy coach, Sea World janitor, Disney security guard!:eek:REALLY WORRY about when our adult sons, 28 and 20, have children of their own. VERY DIFFICULT times today to keep children SAFE! SO SCARY!:scared1:

It is no riskier now than it ever was. If anything the risks are less. This stuff just didn't used to get reported is the difference.

Sorry, but I "beg to differ". Biggest offender in my opinion is young children having Inappropriate smartphone access to Internet and very little supervision:scared1:. Recipe for disaster!

Not just a sex sting, a CHILD sex sting... the security guard at disney and the sea world janitor thought they were meeting 14 year old girls to have sex with them. Disgusting. I don't blame Disney, there's only so much you can do. If you do a background check and nothing shows up, there's no way to know the future, but it definitely shows you need to be vigilant and aware of your (and your children's) surroundings, even at the happiest place on earth.

I think the biggest offenders are the men who are preying upon children.

That's been going on for thousands of years, we're hearing more and more about it, but its not anything new.

I'm not saying its ok or anything, just pointing out that we've had sick people for a very long time.

I wasn't aware that I said that this was a recent thing? I am aware that it's been going on since the dawn of time, but that does not make it okay.

I was responding to the poster that was placing the blame on the children with phones, and not the men who are abusing them.

I didn't say it was ok either. I agree its not the children's fault.

????

I didn't say that you said it was okay! I am really confused by your comments to me lol

Don't look to much into them, yes i replied to your quote, but i guess i was more directly replying to the thread.

sorry about that.

AGREED! SICKOS are unfortunately all over, but all of this emphasis on technology and social media undoubtedly makes it more difficult for parents to help "police" what is going on. Teachers have just about " given up" with unauthorized smart phone access in classrooms.

Also incorrect. It makes it easier because there is a record of those conversations and it's possible to track locations.

Cases of child sexual abuse fell 60% from 1992 to 2010 in part because of increased focus on the subject and despite the rise of the internet. The majority of victims are abused by someone they know, not by a stranger. The media gives a false impression of the situation.

My biggest problems with this (specifically toward Disney) are: 1) this man had a prior violent record and Disney still employed him as a security guard for their parks. That is negligence on their part. 2) He was not fired. He was put on unpaid leave pending the conviction. Disney should fire him immediately.

I agree that we have to be extra vigilant and careful withe our children's surroundings even at Disney. But I should be able to trust that they will do background checks on their security guards and not hire someone with a violent record. And that they would take this seriously and terminate him immediately.

But shouldn't Disney have an ethical obligation to their guests to NOT hire someone as a security guard who has a violent offense on his record? And even if it does sneak past, shouldn't they fire him immediately and not simply put him on unpaid leave pending the outcome? It makes me question Disney's HR staff, that's for sure.

Not to be defending this person, but...

1) His prior "violent record" was one misdemeanor arrest for a domestic issue. Doesn't say anything more. Doesn't say whether he was convicted. Doesn't say whether charges were dropped. Doesn't give any specifics. Some states have laws that say if a woman calls and claims a domestic violence issue, the man has to be taken away and held. (This is to protect the woman, so she doesn't rescind out of fear and something worse happens.) We don't know what happened here.

2) As ugly as this all sounds in the report, we do live in a country of innocent until proven guilty. Disney can't be firing someone at this point. Can you say lawsuit???? He's on unpaid leave until convicted. That sounds like the strongest action they can take.

I don't think you can be holding Disney responsible in this case.

There are pervs everyone in the same proportions...as there always have been.

The good thing about life before the Internet is we all didn't have to see exaggerated/fake outrage
