Hi guys, sorry to bother you again.. lol. But do you think that the Disney Rewards Card from Chase is a good thing, or would you pass it up? I thought it looked kind of cool because it adds up points or whatever for future trips, but is it too good to be true? Just give me some of your input! TIA! What would I do without you guys?? Lol

I have it and use it but the points are hard to come buy. You get $1 disney dollar for every hundred you spend. At times I use the card like my debit card and pay it off weekly to avoid finance charges, but some things can't be paid by that and it tends to be a hassle after a while. They do send out promos for 2x, 3x, etc the dollars on purchases during certain periods are special stores (like disney online, flowers.com, etc), but unless you are making a significant purchase its often not worth it.

I love my Disney Visa card! I already have 46 points( which ends up being $46, that I can spend at Disney World~when I go in Dec.)! But by the time Dec. get's here I am sure I will have over $50 worth( which will be nice and I plan on using my rewards card to buy Disney Pins)! I use my card to charge things alot, so I can add up points a lot faster and it seems to work for me!

I have had one for years, but am just starting to use it. As with any credit card, you maximize your benefits by paying off your balance monthly. I use our Disney Visa for everything. I make it kind of a game to see how little cash I can use in a month. I am surprised to see how many places I can use it. I am just about to order the rewards card so I can use it on my next trip. On the flip side, I have heard some people complain about Chase's customer service. I personally have not had any problems, so take that FWIW.

I've had mine for over 2 years now (charter member!) and I LOVE it!

I use it exclusively and pay for everything on it (gas, groceries, going out to dinner, car expenses, etc). I also have as many of my recurring monthly bills charged to it as possible (cell phone, insurance, etc).

But... I PAY IT OFF EACH MONTH!

This way I don't incurr any finance charges, and I can keep track of my spending. I don't use any other credit cards.

I usually average about 20-25 disney points a month, which can add up pretty quickly. Plus, I can charge my disney trips to the card for interest free for 6 months (I think it only applies to package deals). That gives me a few extra dollars before we go.

Occaisionally there are offers for double points on certain purchases for a specified time period. Those can really help the points add up. :teeth:

I just got mine a maybe two months ago because it was on the Disney site when I made my ressie. It offered $40 off and interest for the first year. I put our entire trip on it and now have $19 reward dollars. Not much considering the amount of money I spent.

I love my card, we use it for everything. We also pay it off every month so that we don't have to pay a finance charge. We go to Disney once a year and we ended up this year with over $400.00 reward dollars to spend. I think of it as free money, becasue we got it by using it to buy things we actually needed, not just to build up rewards. While we were there, we used it to pay for food, souveneirs, snacks, etc. It was easy to use. Back in May(not sure if they still offer this) but If you present your card at the World of Disney at Downtown Disney, you get 10%$ off your bill and you dont even have to use the card, just show it to the cast member. If you do use credit cards, then I think it's worth it. It's free dollars. I think that they even offer $50 rewards dollars to join.

we have used the card and have accumulated a lot of points. We used over 500 of them on our trip in April. There are a few things to make sure of when using it. First and most importantly, you must pay off the balance in full each month. If you don't and you pay any finance charges they will eat up all the rewards that you earn. You will pay much more in finance charges than you earn.
The one other possible drawback is that other cards can earn more points for every dollar you spend. Depending upon your use of credits cards, you can possibly earn more on other kinds of reward cards.
But the one thing for any reward card is that you must never carry a balance on the card. the interest will always be more than the rewards and will not be worth it.

I actually find their customer service to be wonderful - they answer the phone promptly and have been able to answer my questions every time.

ICYW, No... I don't work for Chase (or Disney) :p

if you use a certain code, you autocamtically get $50 in disney bucks once you use it ONE TIME

also your significant other can do the same thing and get another $50

thats a hundred "free" disney dollars!

for the code, go to the budget baord and look back about 2-3 pages! We did this and have the $100 just stitting, waiting for our trip which takes place in SIX DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have it and use it. I put our DVC purchase on it. If I could have I would have charged the kids' tuition but the school didn't allow that. I would have racked up some really big bucks then. I have accumulated lots of dollars. However, there are cards that pay more back. I think if I shopped around, I'd be able to get up to 5% on some cards. If I were to charge all the same stuff and save the cash back for use at only at WDW, I'd make out two to five times better. The trouble is, I know that as a DVC member, I will always be coming back, and I also enjoy looking at the Disney logo....not a very economical reason, but one none the less.

We got the card when it was first offered; the points covered our tickets and some of our lodging for our trip last Spring, and we ended up buying into DVC. I'm sure Disney had people like us in mind when they bought into the ViSA thing. I would say that there are many cards that offer the same 1% payback -Discover, for one - and some that offer occasional better deals. But, you have to decide what your saving for. If your looking for an excuse to go to Disney, this may be your ticket!

"Cardmember Since - DAY 1"
Yep, I am very proud of that on my card!
We try to use it as often as possible and just last month charged my daughter's wedding on the card! We save all our points for a family dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse once a year. We pay it off each month so we incur no interest.
Don't forget the exclusive offers, like the LE Pins that only card holders can purchase and stuff like that.

Does anyone know, if I applied for my card yesterday, will I get it before I leave for my trip in 2 weeks?

Thanks!

I got mine in about a week. It was quicker than I expected. But once you get your credit card, you need to send for a rewards card to get the rewards points, so I don't know if you would be able to use the rewards points in two weeks. Have a great trip

We have it and love it. I pay the balance in full every 2 weeks and use it for everything possible. My DH does the same- and he does a lot of business travel purchases for his work- he pays for airline tix and hotels severals times a month.-so we rack up points quickly.
Between the 2 of us we have about $560 for our trip. It will pay for about half our MYW package. Our total MYW package (5 people, 5 nights, 2 rooms at ASMOV, 1 day tix, free dining) was about $1150 less our Disney Rewards
we are paying LESS THAN $600 out of pocket for a family of 5 onsite w/dining plan.
It is very exciting.

BTW- you don't have to send for a rewards card to get the points- but you have to order it and transfer the rewards to use them. You will accumulate reward points even if you don't have the rewards card yet.

Thanks for your response! I don't mind not having the rewards points before we go, I'd just like to at least have the card in my hot little hand!
:goodvibes

If I'm not mistaken you can get a rewards card at DTD customer service or perhaps the Disney Visa office. It used to be between the The World of Disney store and legoland. Can anyone confirm!

Another member "since Day 1" here! If you like WDW it's definitely worth it as long as you pay it off each month and incur no interest. :)

As others have said, I have it, I use it, and I love it. lol

Seriously, we put EVERYTHING on it...the mortgage, the gas, electric, phone, pre-school tuition, dh's graduate school tuition (which his company reimburses him for, so that is a real bonus!), gorceries, literally every bill we have goes on that card. Plus, DH travels for business a bit, so we are able to put his flights, hotels, etc. on our card and then get reimbursed for that as well.

And then, we pay it off IN FULL every month. You have to be really good at maintaining your finances if you do it this way. It is so easy to look in your checkbook and say "Oh wow, we have a ton of money right now, I can buy this..." while forgetting that you have ton in your account b/c you charge your electric bill. So, if you are really good at budgetig and monitoring, then I think it is an awesome thing!

Like others have said, we started with $100 free dollars since DH and I each got one (separate accounts, though we both have cards for both accounts). Then, we put everything on it for several months leading up to our trip, and we ended up with a whopping $560! It paid for our whole dining plan for all of us!

So yes, it can add up. I guess we are lucky though, as many cannot pay their mortgage on a card (this really adds up, as you can imagine) plus all of DH's business expenses which we get reimbursed for. If these were really all of "our" purchases, that would mean 50,000 on a credit card in a year! Yikes!

And yup, DVC went on it, too!

I will say, though, that we have NOT had good luck with customer service through Chase. If it were not for the points, we would have dropped them a long time ago. But, being Disney junkies....well, you know the story....
