Disney Rewards Question

I'm not sure where to ask this question, so please move it if this is the wrong place.
My sister is going to WDW soon. She has about 500 disney reward dollars. She is planning on booking her trip through a travel agent rather than through Disney. She is also buying her tickets and meals plan through the travel agent. Can she use the reward dollars for this trip at all?

Why doesn't she just use them as souvenier money? They are accepted in the stores in the parks and downtown disney.

I am not sure if she could use them to pay through a travel agent, but I would think her TA could find out this information easily.

Why even use a travel agent? It was sooo easy to book our trip through the Disney website (room, tickets, and dining plan). Seems like a TA is just another layer to the planning process where something good go wrong.

Some people are not comfortable booking online or thru Disney directly. And TA's can offer other bonuses as incentives to lure clients. We've gotten gift baskets in our rooms at check in, tote bags filled with Disney goodies prior to our trip and nice onboard credits for our cruises that were all compliments of our TA. A Disney specialist can also keep an eye out for future discounts and apply them to your reservation so that you don't have to. Some will even make your ADRs and book tours for you.

As for the OP's question:
The rewards dollars can be used for any room charges which would also include restaurant tips, merchandise purchases and alcohol. If your DSis's TA is willing to do it, she could even use the rewards dollars to apply towards the cost of the package she purchased. However, the accounting is more complex for those transactions and not ever TA is willing or able to do it.

I am 99% sure you CAN NOT use them through a travel agent. I would use it for souvenir money and such.

I am an agent and you can use rewards when you book through an agent. There is a place where we make payments for clients and it can be done.
