I would like some input into Disney Resorts for folks in wheelchairs. We will have 2 of our party that will tour in their wheelchairs. For instance, I was considering POR, Alligator Bayou; but I note that even on the first floor there are steps to get into the rooms.
Would love to hear from you'all! Strongly considering value, but may spring for moderate.

Hi there! All of the resorts have rooms that are accessible to wheelchair users, so don't let that limit your resort choice. If you just need to be able to get the wheelchairs in and out of the room, and don't need a roll-in shower or accessible toilet, you need to request "wheelchair accessible / ground floor for medical reasons". If you need a roll-in shower, you will need to explicitly state this to special reservations. To fit two wheelchairs into a standard room, you may need to shuffle the furniture around a little, but if you just push the table back, you should be fine.

If distances are going to be an issue, you might want to consider staying at a smaller resort (smaller in area, not necessarily in number of rooms), such as the values or POFQ, as some of the bigger ones can involve a lot of walking to get about. Any of the ground floor rooms in FQ, and (I think) all the rooms in the values can be got to in a wheelchair. The rooms at FQ have a raised walkway outside them, but there is at least one ramp up to each set.

At POR Alligator Bayou, each building has a ramp so all 1st floor rooms are accessible. Second floor rooms are not accessible.

If you are willing to spring for the more expensive or rent points from a dvc member (that what we do) we love OKW for the size of the rooms. Usually either my mother, who uses a cane because of balance issues or my in-laws come with us. We need to rent a scooter for FIL. The rooms are quite large so fitting the scooter in the room when we are there is no problem. He can get around with it quite well. Just ask for a room on a first floor or one with an elevator and also request that it is near a bus stop. The buses all lower down to the level of the wheelchair/scooter and you just drive it right on. The bus driver will also let them on or off first and make sure that they are situated. As another poster stated you can get hanndicap accesable rooms at all the resorts however that extra bit of room can really make a difference.
