Disney Resorts Room Decor

Last year we stayed at CBR in their newly refurbished rooms and I was so disappointed that there were no hidden mickeys or Disney touches anymore. We have just booked the Yacht club after seeing the room photos on the Disney website with what I felt was very cute décor with lots of Mickeys and Disney touches. But now I have learned that the rooms are being refurbished and the photos of the new room I have seen, while nice looking, have no Disney touches or hidden Mickeys. These rooms looks so un-Disney to me.

I know we could stay (and we have in the past) at Port Orleans Royal rooms, CBR Pirate Rooms, or Art of Animation for more Disney-esque rooms, but for this trip, we wanted to try something different, got a good price, and have always wanted to stay at Y&B Club since Epcot is our favorite park.

What is everyone else's thoughts on the new room décor, not only at YC, but other resorts that have been refurbished without the Disney touches?

Am I the only one disappointed that the magic seems missing from the rooms?

Does anyone have suggestions on décor I could bring to help add back the Disney touches to the room?

I miss it too (though not the awful bedspreads) but I think they have had feedback from enough guests that they get their fill of Disney in the parks and prefer "quieter, more peaceful" rooms. They have a few that look like Disney threw up on them (as you mentioned) but for the others they have gone more neutral. I guess there is an audience for both ends of the spectrum so they are trying to fill the need

You have to look closer. There are certainly hidden Mickey's in the new YC rooms and all of them for that matter. It's not as in your face, but it's there.

For the life of me, I could not find any at our CBR room. I'd love to know where they are if you have seen photos.
I know Beach Club has some subtle ones in a pillow fabric, so I am hoping Yacht club will at least have something like that, but I just didn't see any in the photos I have viewed.

From the photo I've seen, it looks like the curtains at YC have constellations in the shape of Disney characters.

The refurbished rooms at BC have hidden Mickey's in the shower curtains and I'm thinking somewhere else but i don't remember at the moment.

Not sure when you're staying but it will be a while before the refurb at YC is completed. I think right now they are still just working on the 5th floor.

You probably won't be able to see any from a photo. I know (unless it's changed) that the wallpaper in the bathroom in BC has a yacht on it that has a hidden Mickey on the sail. Very subtle. That's kind of what makes it fun. A lot of the carpets, especially in the hallways, also have very subtle hidden Mickey's. We like that it's not in your face, but it's there.

I feel the same as you in that I also think the rooms look un-Disney. With that said, you will find some subtle hidden Mickeys, but not the obvious Disney touches that were present prior to renovations. I do love how all of the resorts are getting new/refreshed rooms, but I don't care for how generic they have become with a lot of Disney touches taken away .

I'm booked at the YC CL this July. I think the new rooms look awful, so much so that I wanted to move to the BC. The discount is better at YC unfortunately. I don't understand not putting carpeting in the rooms, I think it makes them look cheap. I know it's easier to clean but from an aesthetic point it looks cold. I don't think that it looks like a room that would justify paying over $600 a night rack rate. I mean look at the rooms at the four Seasons, they are beautiful!

They rest of my family thinks it look nice, I definitely think it will affect my trip. I guess I'll just have to spend more time at SAB.

Me too! We were in a model room in February. I disliked it so much I honestly don't know if I'll go back, which is a bummer because I really love the resort.

True story comparing it to kohl's! I wouldn't pay rack rate for it which is why I won't switch to the BC. They discount isn't as good.

I'm with you, the touches are gone and it's very disappointing. The new Beach Club renovation has rooms looking like a Marriott (nothing wrong with a Marriott, but that's not what you are paying Deluxe prices for). I was also heartbroken they took out all of the beautiful custom carpets in the hall that had adorable details of the Flounder and sea life from the Little Mermaid.

I also love the Disney touches and am sad to see them leave. I am someone who wants Disney even in my hotel room, but to each his own. I stayed at YC pre renovations and liked the decor, although even then it was not overly Disney IMO. The Mickey lamp is a sad loss. I recently saw picks of the new Copper Creek Villas and while they are very nice, they feel so sterile to me without any Disney embellishments.

This is the reason my 15 year old son prefers the All Star Movies to every other resort on property. He likes the "loud" theming both inside and outside the room. There is just no way I can do those terrible double beds anymore. My DH and I now always do a deluxe on couples only trips but we get a Family Suite at All Star Music when our son is with us - at least the bed is bigger!

I'm a long time Grand Floridian loyalist and have been very disappointed in the decor change both to the rooms and common areas a couple years back.

I just returned from a 5 night stay there since my last trip in August. Disney seems to have taken up the mantle of becoming more generic and less detailed in its resort decor and small amenities.

The current rooms have been a far deviation from the true Victorian style the GF is known for, replaced with a bland "retro Florida" as concierge told me it was. Carpeting, room furniture and sconses were changed out to reflect this style and it doesn't jeld right. New sconces clash with the classic wrought iorn lobby chandeliers. In the rooms, playful wallpaper and peach Victorian tasseled curtains was replaced with a bland beige paint job. Disney touches are in the curtains and room chair.

A giqulet painting was randomly hung in the entrance to the room with no specific connection to the decor and no more of the Gilded age GF 1900's building prints it was so famous for. Epic fail. Though they retain a classy understated look which I'm sure appeals to many, however I'm a traditionalist and don't believe the GF needs any "modernization" in the contemporary "retro" sense whatsoever.

People other then myself are noticing this gradual generificafion of Disney deluxe resorts which is troubling. Like what was described above at the YC and BC. Not good. Imagineers and design executives need to stop worrying about competing with other plain hotels and stick to traditionally Disney traits we all know and love, not to mention pay for

I prefer the GF new room. That's just me though.
