Elizabeth, your, pictures are just lovely! But not to sound too ignorant, what is the "people pen" for? I've heard about it here on the boards and have seen many photos but just can't figure out why it is there? :confused3
Thanks, oh and also love your wedding pix in your signature. Not only is it beautiful but when I see it, I know the post is from someone who always gives good advice and helpful comments. You got the magic :wizard: and thanks for sharing it!
Oh, thank you so much. You are too kind!

From what I understand, the "people pens" are there in case the resort has to be evacuated. This way the people would have somewhere to go without being in the savannah where the people or animals could get hurt.

MiaSRN62, thanks for sharing your pictures of the Beach Club! The room decor is so relaxing!

If you want to be underwhelmed, check out the SoG page(s) on the accomodations page on allearsnet.com. (Just my opinion, of course!)

Thank you for the index. It is going to be helpful everytime I want to find a picture that I wanted to share with my family.

I've stayed at SoG, and I am returning there again in Nov-Dec for a 10 day visit. It's lovely! We toured the other resorts, and they are obviously very impressive and beautiful. I'd love to stay at the Grand Floridian some day! While the theming at SoG is of course not on par with the Disney resorts, it's still a very, very nice resort. And at only $100 a night, with some of the biggest rooms on property and the same resort-guest-only bennies as people staying at the Disney resorts, it's a steal, IMO. No way would I pay more money for a moderate resort room that is much smaller. I got 2 queen sized beds plus a pull-out bed at SoG. A big bathroom. A mini-fridge, and I didn't have to request it--it's just there all the time, imagine that (I have a real problem with Disney forcing people to *request* a fridge--give me a break--let alone making them pay extra for it at the value resorts).

I'm not trying to be snide, promise. I just get a little tired of seeing people slam SoG. It's a great place to stay, at a great price. I truly don't understand why anyone who is eligible to stay there would choose to pay significantly more money to stay in a smaller room with smaller beds, etc. (i.e. the moderates). Now, staying at a deluxe, if it's in your budget, I can see that. But they're so much more expensive that I just can't justify it for myself, when SoG technically has the size and many of the amenities of the deluxes at a fraction of the price.

Now I'll agree the photos that can be found online don't do it justice. I posted some photos of my view from the room in this thread:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1221401&page=2&pp=15

I, unfortunately, did not take any photos of the inside of the room. I didn't realize this was something someone would want to see at that time! ;)

Whew, ok, rant over. I'll be sure to take photos of the inside of the rooms on my upcoming trip in case anyone would like to see them!

Here are a few of the SOG pics. I am not sure which golf course this is, I'm not a golfer, but the view was awesome. At SOG, you pretty much either get a golf course view or pool view. :cool1: This is in the new section, 3rd floor, all I know is the hike to this room was LONG but it was quiet and pretty once we got there. The bathrooms have a huge double vanity with a separate door for the toilet/shower/bath. SOG is beautiful but spread out now, this room was a hike to the pool/food, but for the price, SOG is SO worth it! :wizard:

Thanks for those photos, rparmfamily! We had a room in the older wing, and those rooms are even bigger than the new ones. There's a little pony wall between the beds and the eating area and pull-out sofa, so it's more separated, which was nice since we put DD on the pull-out bed. She had her own little "room" over there. There was a bigger table with 4 chairs, too. We requested the new wing this time, just to see what those rooms are like, but I'm thinking I like the size and the divided feel of the older rooms better.....may have to change my request, ha ha.

I think the hike to all the rooms is long, ha ha. We requested a ground floor room this time, so we can cut across the grounds whenever possible since those rooms have a nice-sized patio instead of an enclosed balcony. Also so the kids can go out the back door and run around and play if they need to.

Point well taken. :) I was just trying (albeit, admittedly, in an overly glib manner) to convey that the interior photos, while nice, just didn't have any of the WOW factor that the deluxe resorts, and several of the mods, do. To me the interior looks kinda like a really well-kept-up Country Inn and Suites. But, as you mentioned, the price is quite a bargain (and your photo of the grounds is really pretty).

Different strokes...

..I can certainly understand BOTH points of view...while we were NEVER ones for spending extra on our lodging, namely, because our view was, "you never spend THAT much time in the room" - that is, until we stayed for the first time at a Deluxe.....
