Hi guys

I have a Disney holiday booked for October, and as much as it seems ages away I have started some serious planning!! As of last Saturday I was able to reserve dining, so I already have all our character meals booked in :cool1:!! Now that is out of the way my attention has turned to the free wifi in all parks and some hotels (I know mine offers this service), we are staying in a two bed villa in Saratoga Springs.

I was just curious if anyone from the UK has been recently, could you tell me if this is any good and worth not paying the £5 per day roaming package through my network? Also what do you need to do to your phone to stop roaming using your phone data whilst in the US? Would I be correct in thinking turn off data roaming AND 3G/4G coverage?

Thank you :thumbsup2

I havent used the wifi in SSR but it was great at AKL last year. There were a few spots where we lost a signal but on the whole it was good and that was all we used as there is wifi in the parks too :goodvibes

I just turned off data roaming and push notifications and that worked fine :)

I don't have any experience of SSR, but AKL wifi was a bit spotty, coverage was very up and down. The parks were generally pretty good, I would guess I could access it around 75% of the time, so you're never far away from free wifi :)

Unfortunately I don't know about most of the hotel wifi but I stayed in the Pop Century last August and I used the in room wifi to skype home and it worked no problem :thumbsup2

I also used the wifi in all of the parks and had no problem at all, I found it very useful to check wait times while in the parks :goodvibes

Hope that helps!!

we stayed at POR in Nov/Dec, just a little down the river from SSR and the wifi was perfect. Never used it in the parks at all.:)

Had no worries with WiFi in POFQ last year, and the parks are quite good, AK not so good, but still in places ok.

I tuned my phone into airplane mode, then turned Wireless back on - worked for me.

Stayed at CBR in 2012 and the WiFi was terrible. Signal strength was always fine, but they had serious capacity issues. We could only access during times when resort guests were largely at the parks. Heading back to CSR this year, so I hope that's better. Didn't test Wi-Fi at the parks.

Last time we stayed at OKW it wasn't great. We could get emails, browse net etc but couldn't Skype and couldn't upload much to the net, odd pic was OK but not a lot of pics or clips to Youtube.
We are with Three, recently they changed to allow us to use our UK allowance in the US, we have free WiFi in the hotel (Hilton Garden Inn) but will use our UK allowance while out and about. I would look at something like that than pay £5/day, seems a lot to use abroad.

stayed at SSR last August and we had no problems. Had several devices connected at the same time all using at the same time with no slowness at all, that included skype and video streaming at the same time.

Absolutely no issues in any park, AKL, and the Poly this past Dec.

Could count the lost connections on one hand (over an entire week), and more than enough bandwidth for video chats.

Great to know the wifi is good, we have been using "lines" from the unofficial guide aka "touring plans" so will have our smartphones with us in parks for checking wait times etc and our DD & DS use tablets etc so good to know for in the resort.

To keep in touch we will be using whats app and turning of data roaming.

Quick question re: valuables , is there an in room safe? for passports, tablets etc? Not that I'm accusing housekeeping / maids just wondered.

Yes there are in room safes. Same size in moderates and deluxe rooms. I've never been in a value so can't comment. They are wall mounted and pretty small. They will fit an i pad but not a lap top. We managed to squeeze an i pad, two kindles, wallet belt and some jewellery in ours but that was a major squeeze. They are not the great box safes you get in somewhere like the Raddison chain hotels. Google image it and you will find a photo.

We are at CBR. Cheers :thumbsup2 it would only be for passports, a tablet, and a 3ds x 2 & some cash. Cant think of much else as we will have our phones with us.
