Disney Resort Discount Questions....

Okay.....bear with me for a minute. I booked a trip to Disney staying at the GCH back in August. Our vacation is Dec 8th - 12th. There were absolutely NO DISCOUNTS or special offers. I checked many, many times. I didn't necessarily care about the discounts as we were planning on going to DL and staying at the DCH regardless. Well, fast forward to a week ago when I learned that DLR was promoting their 30-40% off deal with any new vacation package. So, I discuss this with my mom who wasn't sure if she could make it when I originally booked. It ends up, she CAN make it and decides to book.....her vacation is actually several hundred dollars MORE than mine, including park tickets......for 3 less people. How can Disney get away with such false promotions. I don't get it. We booked identical view rooms, both through the same agent, yet she is paying more for less people than I'm paying! It doesn't make sense. We even checked multiple, reputable agents, Disney included. Any help would be greatly appreciated because it makes me feel less of the love than I originally did! :(

The prices fluctuate daily on the Disney Hotels...and that is no lie. Case in point:

Last night I decided to book our hotel for our stay in December. I searched for pricing for a 3 night stay (12/9 to 12/12) and a 4 night stay (12/8 to 12/12) for 5 people (my wife, 3 daughters, and me), here are my results:

3 nights at GCH theme park view w/ concierge - $2,575
4 nights at GCH theme park view w/ concierge - $1,980

Yes, adding a night ended up saving me ~$600. You would have thought that adding a night would increase my cost but it didn't, it made it cheaper to add the additional night.

I checked again today and the price for the exact same reservation of 4 nights is now up to $3,300. I booked my trip last night and can show my reservation confirmation to show my rate (which came to $2,277 w/ tax).

The weird thing about booking last night was that the DTD view was more expensive than the theme park view with concierge! Go figure!

And this isn't an anomaly either. In May, I booked our room for the trip we took earlier this month (9/10 to 9/19...also with the 40% off promo), I booked it at one price and then checked back multiple times over the months before our trip and the price fluctuated like crazy. Sometimes it was $2,000+ more than what I booked it for, for the exact same dates, room type, etc. Other times, it would be the exact same price I booked it for.

It's weird, I would keep an eye on it and talk to your travel agent to see if they can get you a better rate. I have no doubt that the price I got last night will show up again at some point (like it did for our Sept. trip), when you see a better rate, call immediately to see if they will lower the price for both of your reservations.

Thanks, Caimakale. This is EXACTLY what I have experienced on NUMEROUS trips. I just thought it was me but really started to wonder when it happened for the millionth time. Okay, not really millionth but seriously, I don't get it.

Go, UTES, by the way. We're on our way. I just hope we can keep it up next year. We have a whole different "ball game" than we used to, as my DH would say.
