Disney quietly working on $1 billion-plus “next generation” technology project

I must admit I don't feel particulary excited about having to wear a wristband that keeps tabs on you and supposedly gives you a 'personalised' experience. Sounds like it's making it easier for them to know what you're up to wrapped up to make it seem like you're getting something better and more personal... hmm

I like the fact Disney are trying to stay ahead with technology and innovation, this could lead to some handy features and save time.

The thing I laughed at was the comment at the bottom about trying to attract guests to return! It seems at present this isn't what they are doing with all the price increases and cuts - do they think that a new guest visiting now would return when they are being charged left right and center? If you ask me they should introduce a loyalty scheme to attract return visitors, maybe give discounts for return trips, cheaper parking the second visit, spend so much and get money off?

Interesting to see where this may go.

Interesting, thanks Deb.

If this technology is used to reduce potential wait times it could be a real winner and a huge advantage to staying on-site.

one of the things it might do is stop people selling on tickets?

I wouldn't want to have to wear a wristband for the duration of my stay. Apart from the discomfort, it gives away information. If I went offsite I wouldn't want everyone I came across to know I was staying at WDW.
Last trip there was a family in a queue all sporting 'Nick Hotel VIP' wristbands. No disrespect to the Nick Hotel or its guests (we stayed there back in 2000 before it became the Nick), but that would put me off staying there...
