Disney Quest Closing in 2008

Hmm. Although I've passed it I've never been into Disney Quest as I thought the entrance fee was too high for (what at least appears to be) and amusement arcade. The idea of ESPN sports however does feel better as long as they don't over charge for it.

We've been several times over the years - it definately seems to appeal more to boys/men! My nephews always want to go to DQ when they're at WDW and DH usually leaves us girls to do our own thing, while he does all the VR games, etc.

Smaller kids enjoy the "create" zone where they can take photos of themselves and make funny faces on the screen, make toys with different parts, etc. They can purchase the finished product for a small fee! The animation classes have always been well-attended when we've been in there, too!

Me, I just surf the net, play a bit of pinball and have a nice meal at the Cheesecake Factory!

Disney Quest is of no interest to me, and I have therefore never been there.

I am much more worried by the news that ESPN will open in the old Disney Quest building and that ESPN on the Boardwalk will close shortly afterwards.

Now that one *Does* worry me. ESPN is one of the major 'draws' on the Boardwalk. The dance hall is very much a failure. Take away ESPN and the Boardwalk is just Jellyrolls, a few restaurants and some kiddie entertainment.

I love the Boardwalk, but I don't know how it can survive as a 'destination' in itself with ESPN gone. I hope that this isn't part of a plan to concentrate all night life Downtown to the detriment of the Boardwalk. I would hate the Boardwalk Inn and Villas to be downgraded to just another resort.

Now I've never been to the ESPN place at the Boardwalk, but I have been to the ESPN Zone at Chicago and it is WONDERFUL. It is my son's favourite place anywhere and he often asks to return to Chicago just for ESPN zone. As well as fab food, they have a whole wall full of sports screens and each booth has its own radio whereby you can tune into your channel of choice. There is then an entire floor of video games (maybe they can keep some from DisneyQuest) to keep the kids happy when they've had enough of sport.

Maybe they will replace ESPN at the Boardwalk with something new and exciting?

Well Disney Quest has been in decline for quite some time in my opinion, but we still love to go there, however my daughter is very excited about a new ESPN being there instead.

When we last visited DQ in December 2004 it definitely needed some TLC then - I also heard some time ago Disney were "running it down".

I wonder what they would put in place of ESPN at the Boardwalk though? I hope something!

We always go to both Disney Quest and ESPN when we are at WDW. DD and DH love Disney Quest but I never saw the point of an indoors virtual reality theme park when you have so many real ones on your doorstep with a great climate.

As we will mainly stay at Saratoga Springs Resort in the future it will be a nice walk to the ESPN zone. Lets hope something really nice will open up at the Boardwalk. Perhaps with a more Boardwalky theme.

we love DQ and always go several times each trip (for an hour or two at a time - it's included in our PAP).

DD and DS like the synchronized racers, fancy arcade games and the dance machines that all cost a fortune at home (since it's not pay one price at home).

DH and DS love the virtual reality games (like pirates) and i love the human pinball machine. Once i figured out the trick i always win, so it's fun.

and we always play the shooting bumper car thing at least once.

I can't believe they're going to replace it with boring ESPN. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...

but i guess it's just a question of economics.....how much money they're able to earn per square foot.
Since most of the money they make in DQ is from food/drinks and the souvenir shop (since it's already included in many of the park tickets), they probably don't make nearly as much as they would if they put ESPN there.

I wouldn't miss it at all. We went for the first time last year and couldn't get out of the place fast enough. Dark, noisy and seemed way too crowded. To us it was just an amusement arcade, we preferred to be in the parks.

Just seen this post, and am now very sad. I ADORE DQ, particularly Pirates and Buzz, evenings at DTD just won't be the same without it for me.

I really enjoyed DQ as did all my family. We were planning to go back to WDW in April 2008 but now I want to back sooner to play a few more times.

Well I visited once last january and I wasn't in a hurry to go back. We will but only because its included in our park ticket, there is no way I would ever have paid the price they were asking to get in. I don't mind if its there or not really, but not sure how the ESPN zone will work till its there, sounds like a MAN ZONE to me, I'm sure I'll develop an allergy really quickly. Ah well, another piece of Diney history bites the dust. Best take lots of photos when I go this year as a keepsake,

Hi ,

I went to DQ when we went to orlando in 2005 and it was fab ! me and my cuzin made our own rollercoaster nd she got the video which is still great to watch and look back on !! We absoulutely loved DQ and i would definetely reccomend it ! Its a shame its closing down but I'm glad I get to go for one last time !!

Well, it sounds like they want to be more like the DTD in Sunny California- where there was an ESPN Zone which was always pumping.. I too will lament the demise of DQ- love the interactive rides (great memories of my youngest DB getting incredibly over-excited on the Pirates adventure!!), and while I appreciate a day's ticket is not cheap, knowing the amount that can be spent on arcade games etc I don't find it particularly unreasonable. Plus you check your email there..
