It's just patently untrue that all religions exclude gay people OR believe that it's a choice. Anyone who says that has not done their homework.

Here is a long list of homework

Larges christian base after the pope is Southern Baptist in us says:

The Southern Baptist Convention, the largest of the Baptist denominations and the single largest Protestant group in the U.S., considers same-gender sexual behavior to be sinful, stating clearly that its members "affirm God's plan for marriage and sexual intimacy – one man, and one woman, for life. Homosexuality is not a 'valid alternative lifestyle.' The Bible condemns it as sin. It is not, however, an unforgivable sin. The same redemption available to all sinners is available to homosexuals. They, too, may become new creations in Christ."[6]

Just for the record I'm an atheist and support the gay movement, but my christian family doesn't. They also fear for my soul.

Southern Baptists make up a very small part of the world.

But don't scout groups often meet in schools and churches, which are supported by taxes or tax breaks?

TP
As long as the school allows any group to use their facilities, I don't see any way they can prevent scouts from doing so.

One of the "start up" churches meets at a local public middle school. Assuming they follow whatever guidelines (payment, clean up, whatever) everyone else has to, I don't see a problem. In fact, IMO, it would be discrimination to turn scouts (or anyone) away simply because of their beliefs.

I've been debating with myself whether to respond to this thread but I have to say as the Mother of a Scout I"m not totally against not allowing Gay leaders. Gay boy Scouts are allowed , you are just not allowed to be a leader.

I would like to ask Mothers of 13-15 yr old girls if they would like their daughters to go with a 2 young men into an isolated area that you can only reach by canoe without cell phone coverage for 3-5 days? Would you feel comfortable with that?

Sigh. Gay =/= Pedophile

Catholic and Islam are the two largest religions on the planet and both of those religions don't agree with gay rights of equality.

You don't have to like the fact that religious teachings are against you, but it doesn't change the fact that they think the actions of being gay is sin.

My wish is that religion just dies off, but that is just a dream that I will never get the pleasure of seeing in this life time.

Sigh. Gay =/= Pedophile

She was fishing with that. I saw where she was going and that is classic homophobic thoughts. I don't know the statistics but I would imagine most people who pray on children are not gay.
Nothing to back that up just it sickens me when people assume some one is gay that they will "hit" on them.

I don't understand what you asking. Can you clarify this?

I don't think that's what Hannathy is saying. Or are all heterosexual men pedophiles?

Personally, I think it's a valid question.[/QUOTE

It is not a valid question, there are not men girls scout leaders, but no I would not have any problem with my daughter going on the trip with lesbians if that is where it was going. Nor my son with gay guys if that is where the question was going.

*i* am saying that gay does not equal pedophile. And I think that is exactly what she implied.

(=/= means does not equal)

Schmeck, this is the part of the Maryland Declaration of Rights that I was referring to. Again, I have a hard time imagining that they would ever try to enforce it, but it's there:

Article 36
"That as it is the duty of every man to worship God in such manner as he thinks most acceptable to Him, all persons are equally entitled to protection in their religious liberty; wherefore, no person ought by any law to be molested in his person or estate, on account of his religious persuasion, or profession, or for his religious practice, unless, under the color of religion, he shall disturb the good order, peace or safety of the State, or shall infringe the laws of morality, or injure others in their natural, civil or religious rights; nor ought any person to be compelled to frequent, or maintain, or contribute, unless on contract, to maintain, any place of worship, or any ministry; nor shall any person, otherwise competent, be deemed incompetent as a witness, or juror, on account of his religious belief; provided, he believes in the existence of God, and that under His dispensation such person will be held morally accountable for his acts, and be rewarded or punished therefore either in this world or in the world to come."

Article 37
"That no religious test ought ever to be required as a qualification for any office of profit or trust in this State, other than a declaration of belief in the existence of God;"

Thanks for providing this info - wow, that's amazing to have that still 'on the books' in Maryland. I wonder if it is so in Massachusetts? I don't believe swearing to tell the truth by any connection to God holds any more validity than my own promise to tell the truth, so I would not swear 'under God's oath' - it wouldn't be an honest promise by me to tell the truth. Interesting, may try that at my next jury duty.

Thank you I'm not.

I'm saying would you let two college age men take 4-5, 13-15 yr old girls out camping in tents in the wilderness? I wouldn't necessarily call them pedophiles.

I do think it could open the door to a lot of questionable situations for the organization and for boys.

You do realize that boys over the age of 10 play show me yours stuff and you have heard of circle jerks, playing doctor, etc.

No gay child molester needed :scared1:

Most of the catholic priest were not gay men but straight :scared1:

As the mother of two older girls I would allow them to go on camping trips with a Lesbian leader, but never with 2 young boys.

That wasn't the question. Would you have a problem with your daughter going on a trip with (solely) male chaperones?

Hannathy never made the claim that every gay is a pedophile nor would "hit on" scouts. If you think that's the claim being made, then you must think every male adult would "hit on" female teenagers.

Then explain her question. What is the reasoning for the trip.

I can't think of any reason my daughter would be on a canoe trip with a college age guy, so no, no I wouldn't. Not cause of the guy, but the whole trip sounds odd, plus if there is no shower and comfy bed, and iPad my daughter wouldn't be interested anyways.

OK, here's an example...

Your DD is on a softball team. There are two male coaches. As a "team building" exercise, they're going away for the night. No parents or siblings allowed. Are you OK with your DD going?
