Disney Prices Sky high?

We just booked a seventh floor forward facing ocean view on the brilliance, can't wait to give if a go. Really excited to eat our buffet food outside again, a couple have said it is comperable to the magic:)

LOVED my Deck 7 forward facing room on Brilliance!!!!!

Yes during peak seasons for Disney their prices are very high. We are traveling around Easter this next year and are paying almost as much for a balcony room as we could get a concierge room in September. I do think Royal has high prices for peak season as well. I don't look at their older ships but in looking at their newer ships, it's actually within a few hundred dollars of the Fantasy for us. I did find NCL and Carnival are definitely cheaper than Disney during all times of the year. We haven't made the switch yet though :)

We booked the brand new Harmony for President's Day week next year for 3 of us in a verandah for $4,100 (plus OBC). Same choice on the Fantasy is $6,500. That is a huge difference and IMO not worth it! RCI's Oasis class ships are great - and their pools and pool deck (a BIG factor for us) put Disney's to shame and they have several excellent family friendly shows. BTW, 2 of us just sailed President's day week in a verandah on the Allure for less than $2,000. Thought that was a steal - GREAT cruise!

If you compare apples to apples, in some cases their prices are in line. (Not all. Some)Looking at the Oasis of the Seas, vs the Disney Fantasy, granted the Oasis is almost twice the size of the Fantasy, the pricing is fairly close.

Using Sept 2018 as an example, For a 7 night Eastern on the Oasis, with a balcony, deck 8 midship, is 5700 and change. For the Fantasy, leaving the same port, also doing an Eastern, deck 8 also with a comparable room, is 5600 and change. The only real difference, besides ports, is the date. (Oasis goes to Nassau on her eastern) And the Fantasy would leave a week later for her eastern. The Oasis apparently does easterns opposite of the Fantasy.
Realistically, DCL is on par with at least the Oasis class ships.

Oasis Sept. 2, 2018 sailing for two in an ocean view balcony is $2,052. Sept. 2018 - same itinerayy, ocean view balcony for two on the Fantasy is $3,300. I think 65% more is a pretty big difference.

We sailed President's Day week on the Allure ocean view balcony for less than $2,000 and have booked the brand new Harmony for President's Day week 2018 in an ocean view balcony for 3 of us for $4,100 (plus OBC), which is much less expensive than the Fantasy at $6,500 for same week/same cabin. RCI's Oasis class ships are fantastic. The pools and pool deck put Disney's to shame. Food is very good, lots to do, several very good family-friendly shows. Many ships have caught up and some surpasses Disney's (especially the Magic/Wonder). We love the Oasis class ships and are about ready to wind down our Disney cruises and get our fix at WDW.

Did you leave the discount in place? I didn't I took it off, and used 2 adults and 2 children.1 reason is that that's this week, next week it could be something different. When I looked with the discount before, RCL was cheaper. by about 1000. But since the discount can vary I took it off.

Well like they say, different strokes for different folks. We recently gave RCCL a try as we sailed the Oasis on President's Day week and we have NO desire to set foot on an RCCL ship anytime soon. We were on email with our DU agent before leaving the ship trying to book another DCL trip. The food on RCCL was very boring and of much lower quality unless you pay extra. There was no seafood to be had in the buffet. The MDR menus were also very boring. Low grade cuts of meat unless you paid extra. You can get filet mignon in DCL's MDRs with no upcharge. Cannot say the same for RCCL. We enjoyed it for what it was, but for now we will gladly pay the premium.

The price is what you pay for your cruise...discount or not. What is the price if you book it today? That's the comparison you use.

Oddly enough we thought the food was much better on the Allure than on the Oasis but...we've never had fabulous food on any Disney cruise. And the specialty restaurants on the Allure were great (got a super deal - with discount, child's pricing and a free dinner from my TA it cost about $110 total for 4 dinners for 2). We never ate at the MDR - we really don't like to on any ship (definitely wish Disney would have a dinner buffet instead of making you sit through a long drawn out dinner). Sadly no cruise line nails dessert but I'm still looking!

We are for Alaska next summer. Disney was double the price for the same room type and doesn't offer Glacier Bay National Park..if it at least had the park, we might argue the cost bc of the level of service but double the price and without the National Park is leading us to another line. We were able to get a good deal on our cruise last week (Dream) but it was also booked a year in advance.

Food is pretty subjective. I like Carnivals variety. DCL is pretty good in the mdr. None of it would I consider excellenr. The blue Iguana on carnival is probably my favorite cruise food. My kids would say Guys Burgers.

Just curious why people who have "jumped ship" from DCL are still reading and actively participating on a DCL discussion board.
Because we still enjoy DCL, just don't cruise as often, only 2 of my next 5 cruises are on DCL. If pricing was more in line with others, there would be more. It's also nice to let people know there is life after DCL and some other very good options.

Because many of us haven't ruled out DCL if the price is right and I personally can help out on gluten free threads if I catch them, lots of DCL experience there. If the price continues to trend the way it does, I probably won't be on here much longer, only time will tell.

Will admit to finding some threads interesting, especially seeing when like us others finally hit their price ceiling. Also watching the trends of the threads, and how now many of the threads have a pricing/value comment(s) in them now. The tone and topics of threads have really changed since I joined the boards. Used to be the big arguements were about bad service, if we could only go back to that;) Personally I really think the tone changed with the alcohol policy threads which got pretty vicious.

The life after DCL thing is huge, this board had me thinking we made a huge mistake and RCCL service would be horrible lol. Thankfully it was great and we had a wonderful cruise. Trying a magic size ship now to see if we like them like we do the magic. It is ok to say another line is great too, doesn't mean we like DCL any less:)

Very well said. Certain posters on this board will attack if you say anything positive about another cruiseline or anything slightly negative about DCL. I'll be on my 15th DCL cruise in 6 weeks. I'll be booking my 16th onboard( British Isles or one of the TA's) . I'm taking my third Carnival cruise this Fall. In addition to DCL next year I'll probably take my 4th carnival or third NCL , or maybe I'll try one of the new rccl ships. We cruise twice a year. I love cruising, and I can't imagine limiting myself to 4 ships with the same food and entertainment every cruise.

Have you seen all the buzz about the new Celebrity Edge? I have a 24 hour hold on a March 2019 cruise but after speaking with dh tonight we are going to let it expire. He wants the ship to actually 'be in production' for a while to see that they have worked the kinks out. Also - his words - "man but I love seeing a movie while in the pooooool!!" :rotfl2: Seems I've created a DCL monster! But I certainly do see us branching out to them and others like the Carnival Vista once our kids are teens for sure! Plus, we're currently on the road to GOLD. I'm a realist, don't think we'll get Platinum (who knows :confused3) but I don't want anything to 'distract' me from GOLD :rotfl:

I haven't read about it yet, but will right now. I actually get to pick our ship for summer 2019 because it's my 50th Birthday. Right now am leaning toward Harmony or Symphony of the Sea so we can try RCCL but now I have to look into the Edge too. There are sooooo many amazing ships coming out over the next few years, I just can't keep up.

Our son graduates high school next year and wanted an Alaska cruise, I tried so hard to talk him into the new Norwegian ship but he wanted no part of it. So next June we're flying to Vancouver for Alaska on the Wonder, then flying to NYC the day we debark, will spend a couple days there, then get on the new Carnival Horizon for a 4 night Bermuda cruise.

Why not? Some of them are very knowledgeable and helpful. There are also various degrees of jumping ship from sailing with DCL less to not sailing with them at all. It's nice to reassure people that there is life after DCL, that there are some excellent choices with other lines. For those who are venturing to other cruise lines it's helpful to hear from others who've already done it to know what ship might fit their family composition as well as get info on activities, food, etc. Since no one is bashing DCL on these types of threads, I don't see any problem with the jumpers being here.

Because I still enjoy DCL and like to be kept up to date! We have a deposit down on an August 2018 Northern Europe cruise with Disney but may let that go if our Canadian dollar doesn't improve in the coming months. I wish DCL would offer pricing in Canadian dollars like RCCL, NCL and Princess do!

We've never been impressed with the food in the MDR on DCL (and I've ordered Filet Mignon once and it didn't taste like filet mignon to me). We only go for the ambiance. The only food we truly enjoyed on DCL was Palo and Remy. The best overall non-specialty dining food we've had was on the Carnival Victory.

A) Some of us plan to cruise DCL again if the price is right.

B) Some of us still like DCL even though we are satisfied/more satisfied with other cruise lines.

C) Some of us love helping people planning their cruises.

D) Some people enjoy Disboards forums.

E) All the responses above.
