Disney Premier Visa card- anyone upgrading?

I did not upgrade.....am I the only one who didn't?
I just could not go to a yearly fee.....:confused3:sick:

I passed. I have a CC with no fee that gives me 3% on all gas purchases, and 2% on all grocery purchases. Then my Discover is giving me 5% on restaurants.
My Capital One always gives 1.5% back.
With these options I refuse to pay money!

I just got the 5% for 3 months upgrade offer.... must decide by 7/31/12. My last offer expired the end of April and we had decided not to upgrade.

Now, if we plan a late summer trip, it may be worth it! :scratchin

So, the offers are still out there!! :thumbsup2

I wish I would have received that offer! I got an offer this week for $50 in Disney Reward Dollars after my first purchase, so that basically pays for the annual fee for the first year. I also don't like cards with annual fees and the person I talked to said I could go back to my original Disney Visa after the first year if I want to. There was a chart summarizing my gas, grocery and restaurant purchases for the past 12 months and I spent about $30,000. At 2x the rewards, it made sense for me to at least try the premier card for a year.

Yeah, I'm just waiting for it to come in the mail so I can book the rest of the things for our trip.

I know there are different cards out there that offer much better % back, I like knowing that I have "Disney" money. I know that if I received a check/cash back from another card I might not put it into the Disney fund.

I don't have my Disney Premier card yet.... I am referring to Chase Freedom card below......

Don't know about Disney gift cards, but I bought $1000 worth of WalMart gift cards & got the bonus for those. After our 5% time I'll use those to pay for grocery purchases. I know it's sort of like robbing Peter to pay Paul, but it works for us (and we get the "free" money in exchange.) :thumbsup2

I do the same thing. Then I use the Walmart gift cards after the bonus month has passed. I use the Walmart gift cards to make purchases at Sam's Club also..... including gas.

I haven't tried buyng the Dsiney GCs but we buy GCs for restaurants all the time and they have always qualified for the extra rewards. Everything at our Kroger, including Rx's comes up groceries except for gas and that comes up fulel so it hasn't been a problem either.

I also receive the 5% on the gift card purchases. I used a Chase credit card, with bonus 5%....... I shop at my local supermarkets (Shoprite and Price Chopper) and full bonus has been applied at both, as well as Walmart.

Do giftcard purchases made at a grocery store count at 2% ?

*I would assume so since it would be classified under grocery, but just wanted to make sure.

Yes, with the Chase cards anyway.

I've been stocking up on gift cards for the Summer...... I work for the school district and don't get paid all Summer, so the gift cards really come in handy!

Kicking myself that I didn't upgrade when I was offered the 5% bonus deal. Could have saved a lot more than the $50 deal I am getting now, but it's still free for the first year. Live and Learn!! :)

I upgraded in February for the 5%. My 3 months is up so now I'm back to 2%, but I must say I'm pleased with the amount of rewards dollars I earned! :thumbsup2

My DH (who has a Disney Rewards Visa with a "DVC" designation under his name) just received an offer to upgrade in today's mail. "Upgrade and make your first purchase by July 31, 2012......... receive 100 Disney Dream Reward Dollars". Other than that, it's the standard 2%. We'll pass on this one! ;)

This might be a stupid question, so please bear with me...

If I pay the balance off before the statement even comes in, I still get the reward points right? I planned on calling tomorrow but figured I would ask. My first statement isn't due until 7/15 but we HATE owing anything and wanted to pay off our charges ASAP, but didn't want to lose the rewards.

Thanks!

Not a stupid question at all. I used to wonder that as well.

I understand how you feel, about owing. I have often paid my balance before it was billed. My experience is, it does not reduce the rewards. True "credits" (returns, for example) will reduce the reward, but the amount you pay in advance shows as a "payment" and does not affect the rewards you earned on purchases. :goodvibes

I usually pay b4 my statement closes. It is a deposit issue and it is easier for me to pay on line. I have always received the correct amount of rewards. I pay in full so it is easy to keep track.;)

Definitely, I pay my cards every Friday when I get paid..... we never pay interest.
I do my banking at Chase also , so it's a transfer from checking to the CC account.

Thanks for such a quick response! We figured as much but this is our first "real" rewards cards, we aren't much of credit card people and just wanted to make sure:cool1:

We passed on this upgrade earlier this year. Yesterday we received another invitation to upgrade. Dh and I are actually considering it now. I told him about this thread and what you guys have been doing. There were a couple questions though. Dh is going to call on Tues but thought I would ask here.

1. We have a trip planned for Dec and thought we would go ahead and pay it off with the CC instead to get the rewards as I understand that the vacation would fall under the 5% category. But, if we pay it now and later there is a discount, we would get a credit. Would they also take away any bonus points you have earned at that time?

2. The actual 5% is only for 3 months? You have three months from upgrade to receive as many points as possible? I budget 400.00 a week for household expenses and was going to just charge the gift cards at the store, and use them instead as others have posted.

3. Some of you have said that at the year mark you could return to the regular visa if you would like. If there is no incentive at that time, we will be turning back because the fee is what we really don't want to pay.

Thanks,
Kelly

I upgraded and I think my 3 month bonus peroid is ending soon. I know for the first couple of statements, the bonus reward points were a little off, but read on here that they all were supposed to work out at the end of the 3 month period.

Has anyone received all the bonus points they were supposed to get yet? Does it really all end up working out? We still earned a ton of points during the 3 month @ 5%, so I'm not complaining, but I'd like to get all of them that we earned. :thumbsup2

Thanks!

It sounds like different folks are getting different offers. Has anyone had any success at asking to receive a particular offer and getting it?

I was wondering the same thing even though I called a few days ago to upgrade. My offer was the $50 reward dollars after 1st purchase. I wish I would have thought to ask. 5x would have been better!

Well, you could consider the $50 as paying the annual fee off, then you'd basically get twice as many DD as usual with the 2% vs your usual 1% for the whole next year. Then you could downgrade again! So thats not too bad.
But it might be better to open a new Disney Premier card, since you'd get 100DD to start off with instead of 50.

I got the initial offer to upgrade back around Christmas but I don't remember if there was any bonus attached at that point. I saw the words "annual fee" and it hit the trash. It was a fancy large booklet about 10" x 5" that must've cost a mint to print and mail. I received the same thing just a couple days ago but it did offer the 5% for the first 3 months on the last page of the booklet. This time I did upgrade, got some pixie dust pixiedust: when a Chase rep gave me credit for a Disney cruise that I had booked a few weeks before I got the offer (I asked for it, was denied initally, then got it the second call back :woohoo: ) and am good to go this summer with 5% on Disney purchases, gas, grocery and dining...gonna make my life (and my husband's -- he HATES having to think about what card to use, when!) so much easier this summer...no trading off between Chase Freedom, Discover and other cards to score the max % per transaction! Whew!! :cheer2:

Good luck to you, maybe the offer will show up soon! :goodvibes

Right - at least my annual fee is free for the first year. The 5x would have been really nice especially since I am going to WDW in a few weeks. I first heard about the premier card a few months ago but didn't like having to pay an annual fee so I forgot about it. I received my booklet a couple of weeks ago and with the 50 bonus reward, I figured I would try it for a year. I know the extra bonus points will pay for the annual fee each year because we use this card for almost everything. That's probably why they didn't give me the 5x offer! I do pay my card off in full each month and never pay any interest.
