Disney Premier Visa card- anyone upgrading?

Received my inquiry response and had to call for additional clarification. According to a manager, the bonus rewards are calculated at a different date than the regular 2% is calculated. He said by my 4th statement, everything should be caught up. I will report back when I get my May statement (on June 2) and see if he was correct.

That's what I have been told as well so glad to hear we are getting similar responses.

I'm afraid I'm about to be upset. :worried: We upgraded in March with a June trip booked. Thinking we would charge, charge, charge to get lots of bonus rewards to use on our trip. Now if our bonus rewards don't "pay out" until AFTER our trip I'm not going to be happy. :furious: We're getting a little extra, with the 2% but not enough to make up for the (potentially) late 3% bonus we were counting on.

Don't get upset!:goodvibes The difference is only off by a few dollars. You will still be getting your bonus 3% in a pretty timely manner. I am only short about $16 over the last two months, but have already earned over $300 in rewards since upgrading in Feb. It is just a very small amount that is calculating slower. Nothing to freak out about, for sure. Just be sure to check your statement totals so you can be sure you do get everything you are supposed to.

FWIW...
Rather than "upgrading" my Disney Visa, I opened an additional "new" premier account.
The $100 credit appeared on my first statement and I've had no problems with receiving my 1% and 2% Rewards with each statement. In fact I'm thrilled with the fact that my local Walmart and Target are categorized as Grocery!::yes::

The only questionable issue I've had is that my purchase of Park Tickets through the Disney YES Program were not categorized as a Disney purchase. Since they use a 3rd party to administer this program, I kind of thought that would be the case. But I have a call in to Disney Chase, and they have sent my question to Marketing Research. So who knows?:goodvibes

FWIW, I have made a deposit on my July trip using my regular Disney VISA card. But I plan to upgrade to the new card on 4/30.

I asked Disney CM how I can get this deposit to be billed after 4/30, so I can get the 5%.

She told me that after I have my new card I should ask a CM to recharge me my deposit and then issue a credit for the initial charge. She said people do this all the time to take advantage of the promotional % on their VISA card. Easy peasy.

I'm curious if it'll really be that easy but she sure made it sound that way.

(My original plan was to call up, book a 2nd room and then cancel the first room.)

Has anyone done this before?

Hope it can help some of you get your extra 5%, too!

I had a thought. We are driving down to WDW in June. I usually have some gas gift cards from different reward programs but since I used them all last month I won't have any for this trip. We noticed that when we used the gift cards at the pump it was considered cash so we got the lower rate for paying with cash and not credit card. Now I can buy gas gift cards at the supermarket and get the 5% rewards and then use them and get the lower cash price for gas.

I'm curious...is that a NJ thing? I haven't heard of paying more for credit cards at our gas stations...

But your plan sounds perfect!!!

Starwood just inspired me and made me think!

I can buy some gas cards and gift cards for stores I regularly shop at at the supermarket before my third month of 5% rewards runs out and then use them later - I'll just cancel my savings contributions for Disney for this month, then double up next month. A lot better interest than I'm getting with ING!

We did encounter it outside of NJ on the drive down. It is very prevalent in NJ and I absolutely hate it. I have to go by a gas station and see what the cash price is and what the credit card price is and then figure out if it worth it to charge it and get the rewards back. Then you have the stations changing their prices every day. You never know where to go to get the best price. I really wish they would do away with the separate credit card price.

They try to say it is a "discount" for paying cash but it is really a penalty for paying with a credit card.

Ok, thanks. I just never heard of that for "big businesses". I go to local craft fairs and those vendors will give you a discount for cash...but never heard of a company/corporation doing that.

It's a pain to carry cash around ... don't know how people did it before credit cards!!:lmao: I'm just not that disciplined to get to the bank and get cash before I need it!

As if my Visa account wasn't a mess already, now this...

Came home today to find a message from Chase on the answering machine. Someone tried to use my card# at an Apple store in Connecticut. They denied the charge, so no problem there, but they had to close my account and are rushing me new account info and cards via UPS. Glad they were on top of things. Just after I finally got the hang of my new 3 digit code and exp. date, too. Now I will have an entire card's worth of new numbers to memorize. Boo! Just sent DH to the grocery, too. I told him to get the bare minimum until the new card gets here. They said there should be no issue with my current charges and rewards switching over to the new number, so I guess we'll see in a few days. What a hot mess!:furious::sad2::headache::sick::faint:

I had this happen last month. Chase called and someone had tried to use my number twice and it wasn't at any place I had shopped before. Cancelled my card and FedExed me a new one. I was impressed with how they handled it, but it was frustrating and I had my number memorized so now I have to learn a new one.

Everything did transfer over without a problem.

Sorry--perhaps I jumped the gun...

OK, Smitch--need your help again here. Got our new statement today. Still not sure the math is working out. Here is our breakdown:

2% Disney=$40.85
2% gas= $2.71 (we buy WM gift cards which saves us .03/gallon at the pump)
2% grocery=$40.22

bonus=$64.39

I did the math using the calculations showed on earlier posts & I'm waaay off--guessing I didn't do something right (I'll admit my less than stellar math abilities ) Please put me at ease as our trip is quickly approaching & I don't want to be dealing with this at the last minute, much less end up having reward dollars paying out AFTER our trip. :headache:

Wow! That is a LOT of rewards! This is for ONE month??? :rotfl: The calcualtion I came up with for your bonus line is $125.67, so yes, you are missing quite a bit at the moment. You should have at least one more statement before your June trip, so hopefully the rewards will start catching up before your trip. You can give Chase a call and see what they say. Maybe you will get a good manager who will give you an instant fix. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!:goodvibes

If you end up getting some of your rewards after your trip, you could always use them for souvenirs after the trip. Most items can be purchased online through the Disney Store site. I hope it works out for you! Good luck!:goodvibes

Thanks, Smitch--I knew you would check my math ;) I came up with the $125.67 also so glad to know I'm using the right formula. Think I better give Chase a call to see what's up. I'll report back what I hear. I know you've had some discrepancies too.

Yes, that's one month (yikes!) Paid off the upcoming trip & bought a bunch of WM gift cards to get the bonus rewards while we're within our 90 days. It's gonna stink paying that bill, but I'm trying not to think about that! :rotfl:

I'm a little confused about the bonus points:confused3 (ok, I'm a lot confused). I just got my first statement since the upgrade and everything is broken down by category, Disney, gas, grocery, regular (1%) but nothing listed for bonus....why is that? The way it is calculated so far I'm only getting the 2% and not the 5% for the first 3 months, is this because it's my first statement? Should I expect to see the additional 3% listed on my next statement? Also, how do I know when that promotional period will end? Does it end with the 3rd statement or at the end of the 3rd month (my statements end on the 21st of the month not the last day)?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just a little confused:confused3 and I would like to pay off my Nov trip before the promotional period ends but I want to push it as far off as I can (and still get the extra points).
Thanks again,
Laurie:goodvibes
