Bumping up an old thread as I have the same question...are any of the large pin lots of like 50 pins for $25 bucks on Ebay legit? My DD wants pins to trade on our next trip, and I thought that this could be a good way to get some for cheap. I don't want to be trading stuff that is fake or damaged/bent/dinged though. I don't know what a "scrapper" is exactly, other than maybe a factory second or something? I tried looking at the other thread referenced in here but it had been mostly deleted. Thanks!
"Scrapper" pins are pins that were made after the legitimate number of pins was cast. The colors may not be exactly the same as the authentic pins, they are generally lesser quality - lighter-weight, may have flaws in the paint. Another tactic some of the less reputable Ebay sellers use is to order a huge lot of the scrapper pins from China, then they go to the parks and trade the scrappers with the CMs and send you those. That's how they can have a wide variety of pins to sell.
When I buy pins on Ebay, I automatically exclude all the foreign sellers. I haven't checked the Good/Bad Pin Seller list here on the DIS in awhile, but I would try to find sellers that were on the "good" list. I look to buy a good number of pins, maybe 30, but look to spend $2-3 per pin. I do not buy ones that are $1 or less each.
Hope this helps!
