Disney Photographer or Outside Photographer?

I am on the fence about whether to go with a Disney photographer or an outside one. It sounds like a lot of people have had some trouble with the Disney photographers. If we do go with Disney, is there a certain photographer you would recommend? Pros and cons to both? Thanks!

Also, how do you put the tickers on your signature?

It honestly all depends on your venue, budget, and wants.

We decided to go with an outside photographer because we were getting married in the Wedding Pavilion (not in a park), it was more cost effective, and we were really impressed by the pictures we had seen taken by Randy Chapman. We knew we liked his style and would be guaranteed that our pictures would be taken by him. I didn't like the idea of not personally picking out my photographer for something as important to me as wedding pictures. That was my personal preference though.

Here is what I used for my signature: http://www.**************/

We used DPS and I was very happy with our decision. It was included in our package and honestly, we didn't have the time or budget to book an outside photographer. I went through the photos people posted here on the boards and requested Regina because I really liked her style. I was thrilled with our photos and she was really great to work with. I also like the type of editing DPS does to the photos - that can be a consideration depending on the style you like. DPS does get some bad press but there are also many brides who use them and are very happy, sometimes I feel that gets overlooked.

Good luck with your decision!

We went with an outside photographer (Jason Angelini) because the DPS photos I saw were never uniform...some were good, some were bad. I personally hated our DPS photos. It's a strong word but really true...I only liked maybe 5 total photos from DPS and finding enough to put into the Disney wedding album that came with our Escape wedding was difficult. We were so glad we had our outside photographer to capture our moments and if Jason wasn't there, I'd be heartbroken. It's important to note that we didn't request any particular DPS photographer and I really wish we had because it probably could have turned out differently. But I still prefer to know exactly who my photographer is and their skill set...even a request at DPS isn't a solid answer on which photographer you get.

Okay, so here’s my question.

We have a VR scheduled for Saturday, November 5 at Luau Beach. I’ve also already booked Randy as my primary photog. My “specialist” Kathleen Reynolds, says that I have to forego my Disney photos, since Randy will be there. Anyone ever heard of this?

For package weddings like Escape and Memories, Disney only lets you have the included photography AND an outside photographer if you're doing an Escape event.

Disney only lets you keep their photography with an outside photographer if you're doing an Escape event.

What about if I have an outside photog for my prep, ceremony, and afterwards and DPS for my reception and DP at LSS and UK Lochside?

Oh yeah, totally—I should have been clearer: Disney only lets you keep the photography package included with Escape weddings, not the one included with Memories weddings.

Wishes weddings don't include photography, so you aren't sacrificing Disney photography when you hire an outside vendor. You can hire just Disney or Disney + an outside vendor or just an outside vendor—you just can't bring an outside photographer to in-park events.
