They do give out tickets to the parade taping, you have to be there super early to go over things like choreography. The taping is usually the first Friday and Saturday of December with Sunday being a back up day for weather. The only time I've been to the taping was 2 years ago on a Sunday since the weather was horrible Friday and most of Saturday.I was just a regular park visitor and entered the park at 10am,apparently they just didn't have enough of the "parade people" to make the crowd look big enough so they were calling on regular park guests to go into the taping area.Again as others have said you have to have mega patience to do it as the Jonas Bros started taping their segment when we got there and it lasted over 2 hours, continuous takes and retakes and a lot of down time.Since we didn't know the choreography we stood off to the side by the production tent to not look silly. After the Jonas Bros they moved over to Main Street to do the parade segment ,we actually stayed there until 2:30pm,and again it's not like a regular parade cheerleaders just stand around for 30 minutes around the hub until it's their turn to come down and more down time between takes. We left the park at 4 something and taping was still going on.Again we were there from about 10am to 2:30 and although it was cool to do since I had never done it before I couldn't imagine the people who were there from like 6-7am just for the taping, they have to have mega patience.I imagine if it's a nice day on Friday and Saturday they wouldn't have the need for regular park guests to go into the taping area. When I was there even with the regular guests the director had to continuously call for guests to move to empty areas during the Jonas bros taping.
