Disney overestimates ride waiting times

Of course they do this! Let's say that the wait time is posted as 30 minutes. I get on in 20 minutes and I'm happy. Now let's say the wait time is posted as 10 minutes. I get on in 20 minutes and I'm not happy. Cost me the same 20 minutes in line, but the end result is very different.

Restaurants do it, too. Same principle. It's all about expectations.

Do I expect that I'll be in line for a shorter period? No, I'll plan as if the time posted is correct. Then I'm usually pleasantly surprised.

I just got back from my Disney trip today, and I did not find that to be the case at all. For example, all of the queue areas were being used at Splash Mountain, yet the sign said the wait was just 90 minutes. No way! I also walked by Big Thunder Mountain when the wait time was listed at 20 minutes, yet the queue was lined up outside.

Maybe the lines were just growing so fast that they couldn't keep up with the proper wait times. But I was grateful that I have visited Disney World enough to be able to tell if some of the wait times were right on or not.
