I like both of them! I always visit WDW and Universal when I am in Orlando.

Disney wins hands down for the moment although I may change my mind when the new FP+ is introduced. Our next holiday I am planning 15 days at WDW and 3 days at Universal. Usually when we do Universal we stay at WDW and just catch a taxi but this time because of Universals Front of Line perk for on site guest we will be staying at Universal for 3 days. Your loss Disney and it may get worse once I know more about the new system. Disney bosses take heed.:teacher:

I agree that the totals will be much higher on the Disney Boards, but for me it goes deeper than that. There is no place else that the WHOLE family, ages 1-101, can vacation all together, all have a wonderful time, something for everyone, and a near perfect trip every time!

Not really a fair question on a disney board where people that like Universal are pretty much told to go back over to the universal boards ;) That said.....we love them both for different reasons, but will give a slight edge to Universal lately ..I feel like we get more for our money ( much less money spent than the same amt of days at Disney) .The hotels are gorgeous and comparable ( if not slightly better ) than what Disney considers deluxe. Plus, Universals express pass beats the pants off of fastpass...

We used to do Disney a lot back in the day. But as soon as Universal started growing we started dropping Disney. Now that Universal is growing big time with Comcast its a no brainier. Yes we still visit Disney but nothing beats staying onsite at Universal.

We went to Universal Orlando one time before The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was complete. We felt that Universal Studios was very run down. A lot of those attractions should be put out of their misery (I'm looking at you, Jaws).

Island of Adventure was a great park.

Now that The Wizarding World is done, and Diagon Alley is being constructed (goodbye, Jaws!), I will have to go back again because I can make an actual decision on which park is better.

This! :thumbsup2 Although i've been more than once and will probably continue to go back only because my son LOOOVES universal. If it werent for him, we wouldnt see universal for a very long time. Although I gotta admit, I love the Harry Potter section. Its phenominal! i'd go just for that, then leave right away. Lol.
Disney of course. Have been to Universal once and didn't see a reason to go back.

YES! you nailed it!!! :thumbsup2 Its an experience for sure. Im more about the visual aspect than I am about the "thrill"...which is why I love disney so much. None of the rides make me nauseous! But at universal, most of the rides make me sick. I have to pop ginger pills every hour! :(
Disney, of course. Universal isn't in the same league.

Disney has never just been about the rides - it's an 'experience'! ::yes::

I much prefer Universal Orlando over WDW but I do love DL.

The question really is, how long will HP carry Uni..........without HP its basically thrill rides (yes there are a few things like Dr. Suess for little kids),

HP has nothing new to add, there movies are $5.00 each in the stores. Folks its slowly starting to fade. The magic of Disney characters live on and on!

Attendance for Disney is still growing more then Uni when you compare the attendance figures and not %.

The secret to Disney is they market to everyone .......and provide a A+ product, with all the other special things attached. UNI is still marketing to the thrill rides and will always be a thrill park and 3 hotels.

With cars land, avatar and Stars wars not announced but MOST likely coming, a new DTD, and still more resorts......Disney will always the one leading the pack.

Disney disney disney enough said universal tries to be like disney so why wouldn't disney be better. Disney thrives in everything and universal tries to play catch up. Once fantasy land is completely finished, the new my magic plus system is in order and once they announce a renovation of DHS with either cars or Star Wars disney will be unbeatable.

disney lover at heart

Harry Potter is way more than just movies. Heck, they didn't even start as movies!

Universal has a huge new hotel opening next summer. The new Diagon Alley will feature two new family rides. The Jurassic Park additions next summer are also supposed to add two more family rides. In the five years after that even more new rides are slated to open.

I don't think Universal ever expects to lead the pack but they sure are going to take a chunk of Disney's business away. You can see already how many people on these boards are spending 2 and 3 days of their vacations at Universal. 5 years ago that rarely happened.

We can agree to disagree, but one thing we can agree on is that a good UNI resort will do nothing more then bring more people to Orlando, which will benefit both.

If I had to choose and could only go to either Disney parks or Universal parks I would have to pick US/IOA. I just love them too much to give them up.

We always do both. Every time. We have Ap's to US/IOA.

Universal and IOA have such good themeing. Seuss land really looks like you are inside a Seuss book. Harry Potter looks just like in the movies. Marvel area has comic book icons everywhere. Jurassic park area looks like you are in the jungle. They just really theme their parks so much better than any of the Disney parks.

And in my opinion they have much better rides. They have a lot of expansions coming in the next 2 years. Transformers is opening this week and by next fall they will have expanded the Harry Potter to include new rides and even a train that goes between US and IOA.

When Dh and I go we usually spend one day at Epcot, one hopper day between HS and MK and one day at each IOA and US.

Shockingly, I said Disney.

Universal is kind of an upscale six flags to me. It's less family oriented. A little trashy, a lot of girls in booty shorts and bikini tops. I have fun but it doesn't feel more special to me than a trip to Great Adventure.

HP is a cool ride. But its really one ride to me. The theming in the area is nice but it is so congested that I can't really enjoy it. I spent two days in Universal and that is the max for me. I have plenty to do in a week at Disney.

Had this question been asked prior to our previous trip, I would have voted Disney.

But, after our last rip to Orlando, where we spent two days at Uni before heading over to WDW, right now Uni edged out WDW.

In our experience (and it may have been a fluke, of course, but it was our experience), the hotel at Uni was nicer and the folks more friendly, the dining options were better, and the park touring was just more "fun."

I tend to be rather put off by WDW's dining ADR's now. It's hard to decide 6 months beforehand where to eat for us. And some of our signature dining exposures this last time were a bit less than impressive.

The Express Pass at Uni hammered the Fast Pass at WDW into the ground. No comparison.

I can see us doing a Universal-only trip (and we are actually looking at doing that next time......maybe a quick day at MK).

I definitely say Disney
Last year we did Disney and universal. I had a great time at both
I really like IOA better then universal though.
Loved the Harry potter and the superhero section and the kids liked dr suess.

But you definitely don't get the same feel when in the park.
This year we didn't do universal and it was fine
Next year I'm definitely going to IOA again for new Harry potter section.

But I love all the Disney parks Hollywood is my favorite. I lOve being there all day and ending with fantasmic.

I refrained from voting, because I love both resorts for different reasons.

Disney is a masterful theme park, and I believe it would be very hard to top it. However, Universal has been through a sort of renaissance recently.

I think it's unfortunate to discount Universal simply because it isn't Disney. I get that sometimes it is simply a matter of taste, but to not even give Universal a chance seems closed-minded IMHO. But to each their own- I've had incredible experiences at both parks and will continue to do so :)

A few years ago I would've voted Disney but the Uni built Potter and got me into their parks and now they get my vote. Yes Potter is the biggest draw for me but the hotels, the express pass, the dining and the attractions on a whole just makes me keep going to Universal. The things they are doing over in those parks are just insanely awesome.

So yeah, I still love Disney, and I still go to Disney but if I had to choose one or the other, it will now be Universal. Butterbeer alone is worth it.
