OK well hubs and I have been talking about how many toys our 3 kids have and how they need NOTHING for Christmas! I always go overboard of course! Well then I got the awesome idea that we could do Disney in early December and then just give them a small Christmas, couple big gifts and all.

I feel like I would rather spend the $1,XXX amount on Disney then on toys that they don't need and will forget about in a week.

I'm debating on putting the deposit down tomorrow....talk more into it :goodvibes

Welcome to DIS!!! I think that is a FANTASTIC idea. Disney trip with a more modest gift count would be better than a ton of toys that are forgotten the next day. Its the shared experiences as a family that really matter. :goodvibes

Welcome!

I would DEFINITELY, without a doubt, go for the Disney trip!!

Who needs more 'stuff'? But memories ... you can NEVER have enough of.

We are in the midst of moving and I've been hauling 'stuff' to donate at thrift shops for weeks. If only I'd have spent that $ on fueling my Disney addiction.

:rotfl:

I think a vacation would be much more valuable then toys! In a couple of years they will grow out of them! Good luck! And welcome to the DIS!!!!! :welcome:

Welcome to the DIS! I definitely think that Christmas at Disney is much better than gifts. Good luck with your decision! :goodvibes

A trip to Disney World has been our family Christmas present and DDs bday present for the past two years and we are continuing the tradition this year as well. We go after Christmas when the crowds aren't so bad and we love it! It makes Christmas shopping a breeze ;) and the memories and family time are priceless.
Hope you have a blast!

That sounds like our family. Our teenage boys struggle to make a wish list for us and the 3 sets of grandparents. This year we decided that a trip to Disney would be the best gift for all of us since next year one of them is off to college. We booked for Jan and are planning on buying little "hints" that we can wrap and put under the tree. I think it will be fun watching them figure the surprise out...now if only I can keep a lid on my own excitement until Christmas lol!

My daugher is in her second year of college and we started this tradition her senior year of High School. I proposed it to her and she gleefully excepted. We get nothing else for Christmas (she gets some small gifts in her stocking) and have never regretted it. We go as soon as her school vacation starts and so we are home for Christmas with the rest of our family. After the first year she has begged to do it again. For the 2 of us it has been totally worth forgoing gifts that would be forgotten shortly after Christmas to spend the time together at our favorite place in the world. Her brother who is in high school has chosen to have his regular Christmas and so he still has his gifts at Christmas. As long as my daughter wants to build these memories, that's what we'll do!

We went to Disney last November and it was so beautiful. You can see pics in my trip report in my signature. My 11 year old wants to buy her own things now and understood our trip to Disney and DCL was her gift. We did get a few things for my 4 year old and stocking stuffers for my 11 year old though. It was such a awesome thing to see the MVMCP!

:) Maybe the kids could donate their old toys and when they hop back in the car...give em the news, "Now that you all have done a great job with charity, WE ARE GOIN' TO DISNEY!!!". WooHoo :woohoo:

I say go for it...that's what we're doing this year. My son's birthday is exactly 2 weeks after Christmas and my daughter's birthday is a couple months before Christmas, they're 7 and 11. We talked to them several months ago and asked them if they would rather get very very minimal birthday and Christmas gifts this year and go to Disney World instead, they both were all for it...same goes for my husband and myself- hardly any birthday or Christmas presents this year.
We are so tired of the shopping and spending so much and having relatively little to show for it, that we decided to go to Disney World this year, even though in November we're going to the Caribbean. We would have liked to have actually been at Disney World ON Christmas, but it's hard (and a bad financial move to miss holiday pay) for my husband to be gone from his job during the holidays, and with Disney's high prices, we decided to wait just 13 days after Christmas and go in January, we'll arrive the day before my son's birthday which will be pretty neat and the crowds will hopefully be pretty light.
Do it!! I don't think you will regret it at all!

We are heading to Disney mid-January for our kids "Christmas Present". We asked them the other day what they received for Christmas last year and they could not remember, but they can tell us details of our Disney trips the we, as parents, often forget. Our kids are in middle school so we asked them if they wanted to go to WDW instead of getting presents and the answer was YES!! We have never been during the winter and we can't wait. I think it is a win-win... less "stuff" for me to pick up and eventually toss out and more wonderful family memories. Go for it you won't regret it!

We're going the first week in December as well and Christmas will be lighter than usual. Santa will bring a moderate gift for each of the girls though finding ideas is getting difficult as we got the Wii 2 years ago and DD1 got a DSi last year. We're trying to save as much as we can before the trip and may buy a few small things in Disney. Gotta take our huge change jar to the bank this week! We earned quite a few gift cards this year from DVC and the AP promotions they did so that will help a lot. May give the girls a few gift cards as their spending money.

:santa::santa::santa: I just turned 40 last month and a trip at Christmas was what I requested this year though I had a party. DH and I are looking at a new camera but that's a gift to each other.
