Disney On Ice - I need to vent!

Okay, so I go with my sister-in-law and niece (2) yesterday morning to see "Disney on Ice". Before we take our seats, we are going to get some goodies. My SIL asks me to get my niece a sno-cone, while she stands in a different line to buy one of those spinning light up toys. The sno-cone comes in a souvenir cup - I choose Tinkerbell. This sno-cone cost $15 (one scoop of crushed ice and three squirts of juice). The lady then asks me if I want the $1 straw or the $2 straw!!!! Seriously, you are charging me $15 for a sno-cone and it doesn't come with a straw? :sad2: I really couldn't believe it. I bought the $1 straw because there was no way to eat the thing without it. Oh, and the light up toy was another $22.

I've been a Disney fan most of my adult life (been to WDW many, many times) so I wasn't really surprised by the prices, but I was disappointed about the straw. I just thought it was outrageous and needed to vent.

The show was cute.

I hate to tell you, but they do have regular straws for free. They come in a pack with a wet wipe and a napkin and a spoon. I know some of the sellers don't offer it (seems they make money off what they sell) and others do, we have met a couple who don't offer it and that annoys me to no end for those who don't know.

ETA- I agree, it's all so overproced there. Even worse then IN Disney, yet my girls still buy themselves a snowcone every year when we go.

There were several people in front of me, so I had time to look around to see if there were any regular straws available. Every person was just handed the sno-cone and asked "Do you want the $1 straw or the $2 straw?" My mistake, of course, was not asking for a regular straw. Since I didn't see any, I just assumed I had no choice. The woman handed me the sno-cone (without a straw) and when I looked at her, she asked me which straw I wanted. It just seems wrong to me.

The Disney on Ice shows, for the most part, are WONDERFUL. But, I only buy the popcorn and a drink (one each for me and DS to share). Sometimes I bring sandwiches in my backpack. No toys, shirts, spinners, etc.

I work in a Disney store, and LOTS of moms come there to buy treats to give their kids at the Disney on Ice shows. They present the child with it just before the show, or inside at the show.

OMG....those aren't WDW prices, those are INSANE! I'd never ever pay for things like that,I just couldn't:scared1:
I've been to WDW for the last 20 years,and never seen a 15.00 snowcone......:scared1:

I totally agree, it is so wrong, and like I said I have seen that here too a few times. I am sure Disney doesn't tell then to do that, at least I hope not, then again it makes them more money. Last time we went (January) we saw baskets of them out and that was nice to see.

Wow! Those prices are just crazy! My daughter is only 1, but I can only imagine the cost of a snowcone when she's actually old enough to enjoy the show...ouch!

For this reason, when we went to Disney on Ice last January, I brought in some really nice glow sticks that I decorated, as well as one small toy each. I did not buy my kids any souvies there (believe me, they are in no way deprived) and they were happy just watching the show. I don't think we bought any snacks, either. Those prices are ridiculous and I refuse to pay them; after already spending almost $90 on the seats for a family of four after all of the charges... We did have a wonderful time and went to Costco afterward for some hotdogs and soda. $1.50 for both!

I take my kids to those shows all the time and they know they CAN NOT get anything. Nothing. It's all too expensive. I bring some snacks in my purse. The prices are OUT of control.

depending on venue rules there might not be straws available at all for free and the disney ones might be it becuse they would be considered a toy or novelty item and the venue merchandiser is being greedy and not being clear about it.

I looked up venue info before the show and, since they didn't prohibit bringing food, popped some popcorn and brought popcorn, grapes and juice boxes. We still ended up buying each child a toy, but at least we didn't do the full-blown budget busting toys plus food and drink!

Also, if we go again (and it's a big IF) I'll be buying some things beforehand to give them, and they'll know going in that they will NOT be getting anything else. I had budgeted for one toy each, but I had the prices too low. I figured $10 to $12 for something small when it was more like $20 each! Oh well, live and learn. :)

I'm usually expecting high prices at those events but having to buy a straw....ridiculous!!! Glad we're done with everything Disney except the roller coasters, lol! Saving our money for a trip to Italy when everything may be expensive but at least it's authentic. I still love Mickey but seriously-'do you want a $1 or $2 straw????'

I take my DS to the theater for the live kids shows here a lot. As far as the extras, the Disney shows are always much more expensive than the PBS shows. We always get the same things-snowcone, balloon, spinner-and they always cost more for the same thing.

I posted about this on another thread about Disney On Ice. Be car4eful about bringing snacks and drinks. Check your venue's rules. We've lived in two states and gone to D on Ice in both. Both of our venues basically prohibit food and drink(1 allowed 1 bottle of water each). They did both search bags and I witnessed many people having all the food they brought confiscated and tossed out. I felt very sorry for them--many had wrapped candy, unopened chips, juice boxes--all of it was tossed out.
We do 1 box of popcorn, 1 large drink, and 1 bag of cotton candy at each show. No toys or souvenirs. That is our rule and the kids know ahead of time. That is the only way we can go each year; we've gone each year since my 11 yo was 4!

We have gone every year too since my oldest was 2. The kids save their money for things like that. They each buy a snowcone and sometimes they will chip in for a popcorn or a cotton candy to share but last time they opted to save their money for "The Real Disney" so they just got snowcones, still they paid. We are allowed to bring in snacks and I do, and I always get the cheap seats with a coupon and usually go for $8, this time the coupon wasn't as good and had to pay $10, but for $30 we had a great time (oldest hasn't gone in years, DH drops us off to save the $10 parking, we are only 10 minutes away.)

I still see another 3 or 4 years of us going but I suspect the snocones at least for my DD10, this will be the last year.

At least they use the cups. They have them hold things like paperclips and desk stuff like that. This time they got the waterbottles so those are useful.

Anytime I go to an ice show I eat before, there's no way I can justify those prices.

yeah, my kids know better than to even ask.......

I'd had to set this precident as well for Disney on Ice - we do not buy souvenirs - sometimes we will buy a popcorn and drink but we all share it.
