Some random thoughts about the Mandalorian and the star wars series' announcements. I don't think anything is really spoiler but just in case I'll put it in spoiler tags anyway. More speculation than spoiler other than a reference to the end of Rebels.
Ahsoka - I believe the story Filoni really wants to do is her journey from Ahsoka the grey to Ahsoka the white. After the Ezra/Thrawn ending on Rebels we get the epilogue where she shows up in full Gandalf the white robes complete with white staff. He has said in interviews this was a nod to LOTR and that he specifically thinks of Ahsoka as his Gandalf character. He has also said in a recent interview that it is possible that the Mando episode with her in it is actually set before she shows up as Ahsoka the white in the Rebels epilogue. I'm taking this as pretty much confirmation at this point. We may get the search for Ezra at some point, but I really believe we'll get this story first. I'm actually excited about this, although Gandalf did have to die and get resurrected. It will be interesting to see if something similar has to happen or what it would take for her to transform. Then again, technically that may already be what happened with the daughter.

I'm also going to be disappointed if we only see her the one time this year although that is looking pretty certain. I'm not sure how they would utilize her if the main fight will be between Mando and Gideon.

Mando - I really like this season but I've been a little concerned since before the season when they revealed that Mando would be the vehicle that they introduce the other characters and spinoffs. Not because I don't want to see them, but because it could really take away from the Mando story itself. So far, so good. I just remain concerned that the further they get into the Mandoverse the harder it will be to focus on this really interesting story instead of the crossover event they teased. The first two episodes this year didn't help. I didn't mind that there was no connection to the overall star wars universe but was a little disappointed that neither served to further explain or deepen the Mando/baby connection. If you compare the krayt dragon episode this year to last years kill the big bad creature, last year we got the confirmation that the baby had force powers. More importantly, we learned that he/she didn't use it until Mando was under threat, confirming his feelings towards Mando. I don't think we got that in this season's Krayt dragon or frog lady episodes. I enjoyed them both but still have a nagging concern that they will lose the Mando story for the overall story. I hope I'm wrong. I'm going to give Filoni and Favreau the benefit of the doubt as they have earned it.

Mandoverse - It will be interesting to see how they do this. The Arrowverse has already tread this ground with standalone series that come together with a giant crossover story combining several or all of the series. The problem with that is not every series really deserved the stand alone viewership and so watching those crossovers on the different series was not always as effective. Of course they had four (five?) series and 26 episodes a year versus three series of 8 episodes a year. They also have Filoni and Favreau so I'm pretty sure everyone will watch each series individually as well as the crossover "event". The timing will be interesting though. With only 8 episodes a series, if they are really going to combine into a crossover they will probably need to have them bunched fairly closely together.

What will be more challenging is when it extends to the overall star wars universe. I'm not sure I will appreciate having to watch all of the Disney+ series and movies in order to enjoy each. I really like the standalone series/movies' with the universe. And since I'm not a gamer, I really hope the games aren't essential for enjoying the series and movies.

By the way, had anyone noticed that the Mando "thanks for showing up, please commit this mission before I help or send you on to the the next step" has more of a game feel? Or is it just me?

Squadron - I'm glad I got to see Patty Jenkins' announcement on twitter about this. Not sure I was all that excited about it but after watching her passion and personal connection to it I am now really looking forward to it. If you haven't seen it I recommend taking the minute or two to watch. Apparently her father was a fighter pilot.

All in all I'm really excited about this and really enjoyed Mando this year.

The entire show is one long form video game. Week to week missions. The mini boss’. The main boss always alluding the main character avoiding confrontation, and when they do, he gets away because it’s not time for the final battle. Mando making new best friends where ever he goes.
Even this past week

Driving the Juggernaut, having to keep the radium levels low or they’d blow up the truck and die. The meter that showed the radium levels. Hell, even when he had to scan his face into the imperial system. These are all tasks and missions you’d see in a video game

Also not sure this needs spoilers but to keep it going ...

Is Ahsoka really "gray" though? I thought Filoni said she isn't a Gray Jedi. I thought Gray Jedi were ones that would leverage both dark and light sides of the Force. Ahsoka seems more focused on the light and just how the Jedi were straying from that. Sort of what Mando is going through this year with the "spirit of the law not the letter of the law"

As to the Mandoverse - I think that is where Thrawn comes in. Moff Gideon stays as main bad guy for Mado proper but then as part of Ahsoka and Sabine's efforts to find Ezra that brings Thrawn back into things and everyone has to teamnup to defeat him. Maybe Thrawn uses Gideon to get to where he wants to be

And you know it’s only a matter of time before Sabine shows up literally every weeks posters suggest it

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply Ahsoka as a grey jedi. I meant to relate it to Gandalf going from Gandalf the Grey to Gandalf the White. I believe Ahsoka will transform into Ahsoka the white even if we don't know exactly what that means yet. I agree on where Thrawn/Gideon can take the story overall, I just get the feeling we will get Ahsoka's transformation story before they pick up the Ahsoka/Sabine search for Ezra in the Rebels epilogue.

I agree about Sabine reappearing but not sure on the timing. They've been teasing it for a while even in the show with the various pieces of murals and artwork in the background. Same with using the Lothcat to tease Ezra. They could easily introduce her and bring her into several of the stories, both related to Thrawn and Mandalore. If they do catch up to Thrawn, it will be interesting to see if he still has some of her artwork.

So much story telling left, so few (one) episode remaining this year.

Mando speculation

Each episode has revealed posters after the debut. There is one poster remaining. Below are the posters this season.

1. Mando
2. Grogu
3. Greef
4. Cara
5. Cobb
6. Frog Lady
7. Bo Katan
8. Fett
9. Moff
10. Ahsoka
11. Fennec

Im going Sabine based on the graffiti motif. Longshot, but it’s probably going to be someone we haven’t seen yet, and we’ve gotten posters from everyone we’ve seen that will likely be in the finale

Over/Under 52 minutes (the longest episode so far this season ‘The Marshal’) for the finale? I’ll take the over, but just barely. I think around 55 minutes.

FWIW so far this season has averaged out to 39 minutes per episode for a total of just over 4.5 hours.

I’m thinking it will be the Jedi we’ve all been debating who will come. Still don’t know who I think it will be though.

I am taking the under. I expect upper 40s.
