Disney News Round Up

The link isn't working for me....is it going to be a public facility or a cast member one?
It seems as though it will be for hotel laundry and cast members. It's supposed to have some state of the art kind of stuff. They brought Mickey out to break ground so I guess it's a big deal.

I guess you cant start on anything until Mickey approves.

Ok so Astro Orbiter is going down this summer for a long refurb. What is being done to it? I first I thought it was just paint and other stuff, but now rumors are saying it is being rethemed and being given a whole new look? Can anyone find ANYTHING on this? WDWmagic? WDWNT? Micechat?

I know there are quite a bit of things that need to be done to it. Some of the planets that are supposed to move don't and it hasn't had a long refurb in a long time so it's definitely needed. I haven't heard of retheming but they moved the people mover refurb to coordinate with the Astro orbiter because they need to do a lot of work to it.

Ok gotcha. For some reason I thought they had removed the moving planets a while back. That would be great if they pained it and fixed things back up. If they do what they have been doing with other ride refurbs then it should look great! Now about the peoplemover......

The people mover will be down for a week or two during the astro orbiter refurb. really the people mover only needs a fixing up and paint job nothing else need to be done. I know the upholstery needs to be done as well that should be done in the two weeks that it is down.

So a lot of time to do plenty of work. I just want to make a side note real quick. It is nice to see Disney investing once again into their rides. I know some people will say they should have been left to rot in the first place, but at least now they are trying. I mean every refurb this last year turned out great. Spaceship Earth received new track in the latter part of the ride and they fixed the printer press. Splash Mountain received major painting, upkeep and fixed AA's. Pirates of the Caribbean saw new boats in just a few days sadly though the boats suck. Just saying maybe these two refrubs will bring the rides back to great quality we expect from Disney.

Exactly astro orbiter need this refurb. People mover was supposed to go down earlier this year but because this is a large refurb for AO they needed to have TTA at the same time.

Just a little side note. Am I the only person who has noticed that there is grass and fern type things on the building with the fish on them, but the building with the swans look more like the ocean? Its kind of funny actually but I wanted to point it out.

Yeah, people have even made up an "urban myth" that they put the swan and dolphin statues on the wrong buildings - which is false.

I learned a lot about that resort from WDWRadio - he had a whole episode about the backstory. It's worth a listen :)

Yea I remember reading that myth on Micechat I think. I never understood how anybody could believe that though. I mean you don't place something on the wrong building then leave it there. Disney wouldn't have even allowed that lol!

Well they aren't Disney hotels so I guess they wouldn't have as much say.
