I’m stunned that they chose MMRR over Slinky for IA$. Also interesting that they chose Frozen over Test Track.

Maybe they are looking to get more money by making those family-friendly rides IA$, ensuring that people who skip thrill rides will still pay for both Genie+ and IA$. Or just as likely, Slinky and Test Track are both down a lot, and that would create headaches for managing IA$. Probably a bit of both.

The people paying it will be primarily those that don’t often go or go once ever, paired with the small percentage that pay for every convience possible. The vast majority will do the same as always.

Ah ... the good 'ol Friday afternoon news dump ... where bad to so-so news is left to fester over the weekend. It's going to take a while to read through the Genie info but hopefully a lot of folks questions are answered somewhere in there. I doubt Disney wants to come right out and answer some of the more sensitive topics. I'm hoping they're buried in the FAQs and terms though

Probably the downtime thing. Can you imagine the headache of having to refund people, and hope that the system works right and let’s them purchase another IAS ride instead?

Well, to be fair at least they are cheaper than people were expecting. Some thought Rise would be as high as 25 bucks! I mean, I still hate this aspect of the system, but it's not as bad as it could have been I guess.

OK, so the questionable Disney naming committee has struck again. Now they seem to be referring to IA$ as “Individual Lightning Lane” selection.

Which makes the acronym “ILL.” Oof!

Yeah, I'm definitely not paying for the individual rides. My family of 6 isn't going to pay $90 to ride ROTR. There are so many things I could do with that money. Popcorn buckets, snacks, treats, a spirit jersey, spending the money at Universal to name a few.

Thinking about it more, the people who will likely take advantage of Genie+ and IAS will likely be young adults, childfree couples (or parents with very high incomes) and solo travelers. I know Disney has been trying to market themselves to people with more disposable income and I don't know why I'm just now putting the pieces together. Think of all the vloggers and 'influencers' (I hate that term) who make an income off Disney content.
As most, I was against paying OOP for these extras but honestly, if push comes to shove...

I wonder if it's because parents of small kids want to spend as little time in line as possible to avoid meltdowns, whereas older kids and adults are willing to stand in line.

The virtual queue was a gamble though - you could be prepped and hit the button on time and still not get a boarding group. As someone who doesn't go very frequently, I'd pay the extra $ to get to experience it at least once. Now would it do it continuously? Nope!

But you knew ahead of time if you were going to get on the ride, now if you pony up you may do so without need.

I agree - there has to have been a better name. First of all Lightning Lane applies to both Genie+ and the individually priced attractions, they should have changed either the name for the lanes themselves or the name for ILL.

The Friday afternoon bad news drop.....we arrive at WDW on 10/17. I don't know if we will pay for Genie+ or not. We definitely won't pay for IAS, but I am concerned about all the bloggers/vloggers who will be there that may not otherwise have planned to go. Aughhh....I don't want to be a Genie-Pig!!!!!

We arrive on 10/16. I have no desire to be a GeniePig. And the bloggers are going to make the second half of the week way more crowded than expected. This so sucks.

It’s a very relative concept. What one thinks is expensive or ridiculous another will want. For example, I don’t pay for any of those alcoholic drinks that are easily 15 plus a drink, I find other things more worth my money. I feel the same with most of the merchandise many Buy. but it is okay we don’t all have to find the same value in everything.

now I don’t know if we will ever do lightening lane or genie + , I’m hopeful that in time AP get a year add on thing for genie + like max pass had, that I would consider buying . We go enough that we can have patience and wait till next time if a line is too long. Thankfully by 3,5 and 8 yo handle lines very well (90 mins and under) .

In my quick perusal, I don't think I saw any mention of a "cool down" period, a la Disneyland's MaxPass. Where you would be able to add another Lightning Lane after a certain period of time if you got an arrival window that is a lot later in the day.

That is probably the one point that will sway me in one direction or another.

This article mentions "only one selection can be held at a time, with the exception being when a guest’s next selection time window is more than 120 minutes away. In that case, Disney Genie+ will allow a second selection to be held." The article was written after attending a Disney media event, so (I hope) the author isn't making that up.

It sounds reasonable, but I'm wondering if that's just supposition based on the old school FP cool down period? Hopefully we'll get some confirmation taken directly from the Disney website

The only time I can see paying to ride is maybe during a runDisney weekend, just to avoid so much standing, but otherwise, this solo traveler has better ways to give Disney all her money

Next trip to WDW will probably be our last trip in a long time (we want to experience the other parks and Aulani in the future) so I downgraded our stay to a value and will use the money saved on the resort to pay for Genie+ and IA$. I was budgeting 20$ per IA$ so I'm pleasantly surprised by the pricing.
