A pay-per-ride system makes it easier to reward onsite guests. Perhaps 1 free fp for everyone staying at value resorts, 2 for mods, 3 for deluxe resorts. Seems reasonable when you're charging $200-$800 per night for the hotels. They have already shown that people are willing to pay those ridiculous proces for hotels, even with reduced entertainment and no Perks. I see no reason for prices to fall any time soon.

Or free for all onsite guests. Like EMH used to be.

DLP park tixx are cheaper than WDW. If I bought a DLP ticket, how many $10 FPs could I buy before my expense matched a WDW ticket? 3 or 4 probably?

Agreed, and that is why, in anticipation of people leaving the deluxes for moderates, Disney threw them a bone in the form of evening EMH. Will it be enough to keep them paying those insane prices? Time will tell. I also see them offering onsite guests tiered free fp's according to hotel category.
Is this because you think that Port Orleans is getting ready to open up?

I imagine at some point soon it will open, along with the two All Stars. Down the road there will be a lot more room availability. If paid fp becomes a reality I believe many people will begin to downgrade their hotels or stay offsite rather than give up Disney altogether. They know this therefore EMH only for deluxes in an attempt to keep the rooms full. The rides in the park with EMH would be a walk on since only a fraction of guests would be allowed to ride.
No fp's needed.

If this goes down, I’m afraid our trip in October will be our last one for a while. I’m more than happy to head over to Universal. I can get Express Pass included at their top three hotels. And as it is, I may downgrade my tickets in October from parkhoppers. At least I can save that money and use it if I’m desperate to skip a line. But yeah, paying for Fast Passes won’t be extra money I’m giving them. It’ll come from canceling the hoppers or the food budget.

Just an FYI, if you've already purchased those tickets, you can't downgrade them.

The closest to a free FP DLP will be getting is the Standby Pass on the app, which is when, during certain busy period, creates a virtual queue instead, not be able to try it out yet, but the wifi at DLP isn't the best so who knows? Will say that I'm going to miss speed walkng to the attractions to get a fastpass, especially you could sometimes get a fastpass for an attraction for the next hour, whilst the queue is really long (Did it both days my last trip in Jan 2020 for Peter Pan)

One other reason to dislike this: there's already too much "Disney math" going on in my head before and during a trip. This would just add to that.

Is this dinner at Liberty Tree really worth $200 for the 4 of us? Is staying at the Boardwalk really worth $1000 more than staying at Port Orleans? Should we really splurge on this special tour, if it means cutting back on TS meals for the rest of the trip?

I don't want to think like this for FP+. I don't want to be hyper cognizant that when the 4 of us go on Splash Mountain, we paid $40 (or whatever) to wait 40 minutes less in line. Because if I start thinking like that, it all begins to seem ridiculous. I'll start feeling angry and resentful.

The beauty of FP+ is that it made you feel like a VIP while still being egalitarian. Everyone got 3! Start charging for it, and all of a sudden I'm making constant tradeoffs in my head and resenting the people who can use it to the max.

So is harmonious now every night? If so, is it at park close? Anyone know how long the show is?

Just curious - do you think Be Our Guest will ever re-open with QS breakfast?
I pretty much have given up hope of the really good QS lunch, but I'm still holding out hope for breakfast....anyone else?

I don't think it would hurt so bad if SO many on site perks have disappeared over the last 2 years and YES I KNOW the pandemic caused a lot of that, but did NOT prevent them from returning. EMH are 100% doable post pandemic with regular capacity, as are fast passes. The park reservation system is here to stay according to execs which whatever that's fine but there's no other reasoning than money.

Right now it's Epcot Forever. 10/1 it will be Harmonious. EF is at the current 10 pm park close. I'm not sure how long EF is, but I believe the tests of Harmonious have been around 20 minutes? Not sure which site I read that on, so I may be off a few minutes.

Ok I meant EF actually. We will be there tomorrow. Staying at Rivera & read about the skyliner nightmare after fireworks. Thanks!

I think EF is a little shorter- I think 10 or 11 minutes. And yes it seems like your best bet is to hang back a bit and wait for the crowd to disperse some before heading toward the skyliner!

Yeah the Skyliner line can get really long right after the show. Probably best to either be really close to IG exit and leave ASAP, or plan on doing something else for 30 mins before getting on the line. I’d rather swing on a Beach Club hammock than get in back of that first long line.

Same for me. FP aside, I have been wishing I had made the Universal portion of our October trip longer. I rented DVC points, so it's too late to change it, but I'm just way more excited for Universal this time. We visit every year, but I think from now on we will do the majority of our stay at Universal. Disney is just... I'm just kind of over them at this point.

I just looked it up... DLP 4 day unlimited access to both parks is $305.60 total cost. I was goingcompare same dates but DLP 4 day ticket is not date based... so I just used the date for WDW I was going to use, the same date as my upcoming trip, 7/24. Including the WDW PH option since the DLP allows for this (not a great comparison tho since PH 4 parks vs. 2) the WDW ticket is $566.63 resulting in a difference in $261.03. Dividing this remaining $ up over 4 days @ $10 /FP? means 6 fastpasses per day... If instead we use the value of 1-park-per-day, then the savings @ DLP only allows for 9 FP total, 2 FP per day and 3 for the last day.

Clearly, you are paying for something different at DLP vs WDW. However, I do think this illustrates how these perks were already baked in to the cost @ WDW. Ive only been going regularly for 5 years now, and not only have park tickets nearly doubled in cost a but I swear that food as well as resorts have gone up well over 50%. With this type of pay-as-you-go system, it essentially doubles the cost of admission in order to experience the park as we could previously; or more accurately of late, a watered down experience devoid of many previous perks.

On top of this, I will hate it if the cost is to be incremental and repeated, pay-as-you-go... I can imagine if they raised tickets prices by some ungodly amount (which they will probably still do anyway), I would be upset, figure out how to make it work... and then eventually go enjoy my vacation, but to cough up more $$ at each and every turn? Along side the cost of food? after paying for transfer to the resort from MCO? Only to have less time in the parks? Im not saying I wont do it to some extent, because I will... (I know, Im part of the problem) but I honestly think Disney would be better off getting people to pay for "premier" access up front in WDW. I can imagine that DLP is very different in regards to this, short trip less planning, less to do and see... it makes sense. but in WDW? Hell no.

Also, WDW is NOT Universal or Cedar Point... If you want to make Universal an experience comparable to Disney? You stay a few days... which means if you want this access, you stay deluxe to get free access. If you stay one day? then you cough up the money because it is (maybe) reasonable to pay for a single day...
