Sorry - what is the Disney Genie system?

Based on press release:

Disney Genie is the next generation of vacation planning app for The Walt Disney World Resort. Guests will use Disney Genie to make customized trip itineraries and touring plans based on their preferences and what they are interested in.

I did ponder the 11th, but as I was laying out out days I figured out this "Disney park day strategy"

Nov 10th (arrival day) - and should be Deluxe guests extended evening hours @ MK- which make up for arriving at noon
Nov 11th: Epcot - since there is a delayed opening we can sleep in a little after being at MK late the night before
Nov 12th: HW - leave mid-afternoon and take a "rest" at the hotel....and then pop over to MK for Merriest Party!
Nov. 13th: Epcot - and once again use that delayed opening to our advantage and catch up on a little bit of sleep!

Nov. 14th: ugh..we leave....sob...
We're arriving the 9th and leaving on Monday the 15th. I'm not sure what strategy I'm following..... just hope and luck I guess.
Which I probably shouldn't do as I have the worst luck of anyone I know. :scratchin :sad1:

I thought I'd been keeping up with the statues, but missed the Dumbo and Abu announcements. Also, R2D2 can be seen in the background of one shot and I think next to Dante I saw Baloo?

Once they're all done posting them I'll put something up with all of the statues. There are 18 characters left for the Fab 50 to go. On each of the video posts they fill in the castle with each individual character as they have gone along. Dante on the castle image is surrounded by the Mad Hatter and Abu.

Have they released the Genie Statue? I could totally see them releasing the info on Genie the same day :P

Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary Merchandise Collections to Release In Parks and On shopDisney October 1st
The countdown is on for “The World’s Most Magical Celebration,” but even if you can’t make it to Walt Disney World for its fiftieth anniversary, you can still bring home part of the fun!

shopDisney has confirmed that four merchandise collections previously announced for the celebration will be available on their website beginning on October 1st, the same day they debut in the theme parks.

I've found from my excessive Shop Disney shopping addiction that new releases like this always post at midnight PST. So if you really want something, I'd recommend pulling an all nighter to score it!

Excellent - thanks for this info!

Disney Genie Service to Reimagine the Guest Experience at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort

  • Get Itinerary Updates from Morning to Night: Disney Genie will continue to update your itinerary throughout your day, so you can be more spontaneous and go with the flow.
  • Find Your Favorites at a Glance: Create your very own personal tip board to instantly see your favorites. It will display current AND forecasted future wait times, helping you predict when you might experience quicker entry to attractions.
  • Enjoy More Flexibility and Fun: Disney Genie brings existing planning features together in one place. Join a virtual queue at certain attractions, make dining and experience reservations, mobile order food at many locations, get help from a virtual assistant and more.
For even more convenience and flexibility, there are two other options for enjoying our theme parks, through a queue we are introducing called the Lightning Lane entrance that also saves you time in line:

  • Disney Genie+ service (available for purchase): For the price of $15 per ticket per day at Walt Disney World Resort and $20 per ticket per day at Disneyland Resort, choose the next available time to arrive at a variety of attractions and experiences using the Lightning Lane entrance. You can make one selection at a time, throughout the day – from classics like Haunted Mansion to thrill rides like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and newer favorites like Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (attractions subject to limited availability). This convenient option is the next evolution of the fan-favorite Disney MaxPass service from Disneyland Resort. Disney Genie+ will also include Disney parks-themed audio experiences and photo features to capture your memories – augmented reality lenses for those visiting Walt Disney World Resort and unlimited Disney PhotoPass downloads from your day if you are visiting Disneyland Resort.
  • Individual attraction selections (available for purchase): Schedule a time to arrive at up to two highly demanded attractions each day using the Lightning Lane entrance – like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom Park and Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure park (subject to limited availability; attractions not included with Disney Genie+). Pricing for this option will vary by date, attraction and park and will be announced closer to launch.

Well,

I'm not sure how I feel about this. At least the price is way better than I thought it was going to be?

That’s just for Genie+, there are attractions eligible for purchase too
Ah I see. I responded just before the video got posted.

I hate to say it, but if Disney IT can pull this off, this is definitely better then I expected. Assuming I’m getting all the facts correct….

So basically a Lines app on steroids, fully integrated with Lightning Lanes (pay per fastpass), Genie+ (maxpass) and anything else itinerary related (dining, shows, etc).

The paid fastpass portion of this will get pricey but I do like the idea of a maxpass type system being implemented somehow. I’m still not happy to pay for something that was once free, but this is an entire overhaul in the way fastpass is traditionally done at WDW so I’m not completely unhappy either.

The app itself looks inviting and the way they integrate all the iteneraries does look pleasant to me, especially the “next available reservation time” when looking at a restaurant - that part was most intriguing to me.

It will be interesting to see how this gets executed in real life but on paper and on this video, I’m happy I was wrong and that this does all look good (initially at least).
