I do find it funny that right as we get more news about the Splash retheme, Tokyo Disney just put up a video on their Twitter account about a Splash Mountain event happening this summer:

They basically confirmed that the one in Japan will not be getting the retheme but I thought it was a funny coincidence.
Even more reason to visit Tokyo Disney soon. Knock of that and Shanghai on a trip.

I want to go to the one in Shanghai - it looks awesome! TDL is fantastic but I would say don't go during the summer. If you think Florida is hot and humid during the summer, I almost collapsed from heat exhaustion in Japan.

The Japanese don't have the same cultural/race issues with Splash that the US does. Also, since it's not Disney, OLC, they don't have to follow the mother ship. Hoping for summer 2023, but if we end up having to cancel our July cruise due to son getting covid, DH and I just got it, then we will probably have to do a cruise instead. Japan seems to be alluding me. Husband was going to plan a surprise trip, and then Fukushima happened. I will get my white whale one day.

Man did they miss an opportunity. Whoever is naming their rides, attractions, products needs a firin' post haste! The obvious choice for the retheme to keep the purists happy and satisfy the need for "new"..

TIANA'S MARDI GRAS MOUNTAIN

It rolls off the tongue so much better.."let's go ride Mardi Gras Mountain!"

I think another part of it is that apparently the Brer animal characters are VERY popular in Japan whereas Princess and the Frog isn't. Tiana isn't a character you can meet in TDR and there is not a lot of merch of the movie sold there or on their version of Shop Disney.

I like that, though it would work far better at Disneyland at New Orleans Square than it does at MK.

First Look at Tiana’s New Outfit for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Disney announced this morning that the new ride replacing Splash Mountain would be called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and open in late 2024. They have now revealed Princess Tiana’s new outfit for the ride.

Really? Most menus tell you what liquors/liqueurs/juices/etc. are in a cocktail. I wouldn't order a drink ($5000 or not) if I didn't know the basics of what was in it.
No scientific evidence but most people that go to bars don’t order off a menu in my experience
