I have my doubts that will happen cause it goes against the reason for reservations in the first place. As quoted from Len Testa "Disney manipulates the number of reservations to ensure the right number of guests in each park. So even if the MK is below capacity, if the AK demand is too low relative to the labor they're paying for, they'll shut off MK reservations to encourage guests to go to AK (and the other parks)."
Pushing guests away from where they prefer to be reduces satisfaction. I question if that can really make them more money in the long run.

I’m thinking the ability to cancel ADRs 2 hours prior was to help increase guest satisfaction. Imagine a guest that realizes their ADR doesn’t jive with the rest of their day but feels compelled to show up or be charged $40 for the family’s no-show reservation. The are already walking in on the wrong foot, nevermind reductions in food quality/variety and batty price increases.

We had a great trip recently but I must say everything was way more convoluted than ever in pre-covid years. The constant feeling that you must protect your own experience against WDW’s manipulations in inescapable. I cannot emphasize that last sentence enough.

I've been questioning the long term strategy for a while now. I see how they are pushing things around to maximize short term (even daily) profits, but those only work if demand stays consistently high. My concern is that these optimizations will eventually catch up to them and as guest satisfaction falls, so does demand. The biggest loss here, is that Disney is losing out on opportunity to make long-term, generational fans. Those kids that remember amazing trips, so they want to repeat them with their own kids. I worry that those are getting lost.

‘Encanto’, ‘Turning Red’, and More Disney Movies Nominated for Grammy Awards

The three biggest categories Disney is nominated for are mostly thanks to the animated hit Encanto. The entire soundtrack is nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media while composer Germaine Franco is up for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media (Includes Film and Television) for his score. Lastly, the mega-sensation “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” is nominated for Best Song Written For Visual Media thanks to Lin-Manuel Miranda’s genius songwriting skills.

But Encanto isn’t the only recent Disney animated film to produce a song worthy of this nomination! “Nobody Like U”, performed by the fictional boy band 4*Town in Turning Red, is also up for the title of Best Song Written For Visual Media. Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell collaborated on this popular tune.

The 2021 adaptation of Broadway classic West Side Story, produced by the Walt Disney Company, is also nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media

Danny Elfman of Nightmare Before Christmasfame lent his other musical talents to the soundtrack for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, composing and arranging the Main Titles for the film and earning Disney a nomination for Composing/Arranging Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella.

Lastly, Richard Jacques, the composer for the soundtrack to
Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy video game.

price increces on products that aren't even on sale, what a time to be alive

I mean, this really is next level, right?? I guess they have to announce the frontline increases in order to justify the fact that renewals will go up as well. Still feels pretty absurd to announce increases on APs you have no intention of selling for months.

IMO most kids aren't as enamoured to Disney as when we were growing up.

Agreed. I think this is due to a lot of factors that have come about over the past decade. I think all of the nonsense with moving away from being family focused and customer service oriented above all else has leaked into the opinions that our kids form. If mom and dad are having a rough time in the parks, with planning, with the cost, with streaming costs, multiple streaming platforms (why is tv so hard now?!) and all the division that the Disney company has brought upon themselves, their image, their fan base, then naturally the kids aren't going to gravitate toward something that doesn't feel happy and doesn't make their parents feel happy. Despite whatever corporate notions exist, I really believe that most fans just want that family/customer service oriented old school Disney. We don't need, or want more content. We want nostalgia and quality.

I think it also has to do with a lot more competition in terms of kid's entertainment. Back in the day, other studios didn't have as much prominence as Disney. Now there are other studios making movies that are on the same level or even better than Disney. A lot of kids are watching content from Youtubers and Twitch streamers as well.

Exactly. My 3 year old would rather watch Blippi over anything Disney right now.

Just want to give a shout out to The awesome Cm I spoke to at the AP help line today. DH had renewed our Sorcerer Pass (DVC member) online on MDE rather than calling Member Services...bless him for wanting to be helpful. I typically do all the planning and what not. So of course the only renewal availability MDE shows is the Incredi-pass. Which he went ahead and purchased. I'm freaking out because it's nearly $800 more than the Sorcerer pass for the two of us. I called DVC Member Services, and they gave me the AP help line # and the bestest fairy godmother CM there whipped out the pixie dust and got us the correct pass and refunded the difference (no small potatoes! That nearly $800 would be our entire food budget for our trip in two weeks!). Disney magic alive and well! Especially since the initial DVC CM I did an online chat with basically said "too bad, so sad".

Disneyland Resort Cast Member Workforce Now Larger Than In 2019

According to a report from the Orange County Business Journal, the Disneyland Resort now employs more Cast Members than they did in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown and subsequent layoffs. The report tallies 34,000 Cast Members, which passes the 2019 headcount of roughly 32,000 Cast Members.

As Walt Disney once said, ‘You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful place in the world, but it requires people to make the dream a reality,’ I’m grateful that we’ve welcomed back so many of our cast members since reopening.
Ken Potrock, Disneyland Resort President
The increase in Cast Members comes ahead of a hiring freeze announced by Disney CEO Bob Chapek. Layoffs are also expected, but likely not in the parks segment of the business.
