Tokyo Disneyland News:

Parade Route Section Reportedly Collapses at Tokyo Disneyland, Anger Builds Online at Management

According to local news and many social media users, part of the parade route at Tokyo Disneyland seemingly collapsed during overnight maintenance at the park, leaving all parades cancelled for October 12 and many guests outraged at the situation’s handling by The Oriental Land Company.

TDL Parade Route collapse

According to an Oriental Land PR representative who spoke to the Huffington Post Japan, a portion of the parade route in front of Tomorrowland Terrace required immediate maintenance last night due to plumbing issues. Work was set to take place over multiple days with a steel plate covering the ditch during operating hours in order to allow parades to perform as scheduled. However, the specifications of the steel plate were incorrect, so the area was covered with temporary asphalt and surrounded by temporary fencing.

Walt Disney World's Fantasmic! reopening date announcement expected very soon

Disney is expected to announce a reopening date for Walt Disney World's Fantasmic! this week as the debut of the updated nighttime spectacular nears.

The fan-favorite show at Disney's Hollywood Studios has been closed since the pandemic shutdown in 2020, but with rehearsals currently in full swing, a reopening date in the first half of November 2022 is now expected.

Yikes! You know things are bad when OLC is dropping the ball!

Been a long long wait on that one. Overdue for sure.

Right? I hope a collapsed parade route is the worst of it. I would be so sad if TDL went in the same direction as WDW and DL.

Yeah, I think the issue is that they didn't announce it until very late and some guests would have changed their plans had they known. Somethings things happen and I think most understand that, but they just didn't handle it well. There are apparently refund options so I do believe that OLC will make it right, one way or another.

Yeah that's what I interpreted from that too. I do notice that guests there are very vocal towards OLC when things go wrong and OLC responds to that.

quick off topic question - are there organized trips to TDL from the US?
I have no idea, sorry. I do know that Japan recently loosened restrictions on tourism so it's easier to go (ex. no longer needing a guided tour. I think you need to be fully vaccinated but don't quote me on that).

The Japanese public has a very low tolerance for mistakes - also they don't make many!

Monorail MagicBand+ Introduces New Price Point

Guests with access to the pre-arrival MagicBand+ offerings are able to select from 70 MagicBand 2.0 and MagicBand+ designs. Each of the MagicBand wearables comes at a pre-arrival discount, but one of the MagicBand+ designs has introduced a new price point.

There are three MagicBand+ price tiers in the Disney World theme parks – $34.99, $44.99, and $54.99. Typically, solid color MagicBand+ wearables are the cheapest at $34.99, MagicBand+ with designs are priced at the middle $44.99 tier, and limited release MagicBand+ push up to the highest $54.99 tier. Here’s a look at the pricing on a Walt Disney World MagicBand+ display.

Inconsistent Park Hours at Animal Kingdom Leads To A Lack of Nighttime Entertainment on Select Nights

All visits to Disney’s Animal Kingdom are not created equal this fall. With the return of the Tree of Life Awakenings and Beacon of Magic projection shows, inconsistent park hours for Animal Kingdom means that guests might not have an ounce of nighttime entertainment on select nights.

Of course, Disney’s Animal Kingdom doesn’t have a proper nighttime show anymore with the end of Rivers of Light, but guests are treated to the Tree of Life projection shows when the park is open past 8pm. The problem is that Disney World does not keep Animal Kingdom open past 8pm every night of the week. In fact, the park hours aren’t even predictable by the day of the week. Sometimes the park is open until 8pm on a Monday, sometimes it’s not. Sometimes the park is open until 8pm on a Friday, sometimes it’s not.

Honestly Josh is probably just as equal to blame for all the unnecessary price increases.

He certainly doesn't stand up against it. People like Josh better because he's a more affable guy in general, but he's just as complicit. Chapek surrounds himself with yes-men. At least Iger, for all his faults, let his executives have a voice - even if one of those voices was Chapek's!

ETA: Also, if Chapek had any sort of charisma at all, the fans would probably be somewhat more forgiving of a lot of the steps he takes, or at least accentuate the good with the bad. Likeability is a huge factor that Chapek seems to disregard.
