Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2022 Edition

This is pretty big D+ news, as I think this is the start of (borderline?) R rated content on D+ in the US. From the recent Variety article ...

Marvel Netflix Content Moving to D+

With the addition of these titles, some of which like “Daredevil” are violent and more mature, Disney Plus will simultaneously release an update to its existing parental controls in the U.S., prompting all subscribers to update their settings. The settings include an option to select content ratings restrictions for each profile and to add a PIN to lock profiles. Those that choose to keep their settings the same will continue to use Disney Plus as they always have within a TV-14 content rating environment, with the option to make changes at any time under the profile settings tab.

This brings up the bigger question of why we need Hulu in the US? Just set up the parental controls and have all the Disney owned content in one portal
I would agree. I think they should start shifting away from Hulu. We only have it because it was cheap to bundle with D+.

thats how my family is too. all thats around here is fast food and a few chain restaurant so when i'm at disney i want something different. occasionally i'll have chicken tenders or a burger in disney but thats really if i'm super hungry and its quick.

I live in a sandwich deprived area. We have subway and that's it. If there's a mom & pop place I've yet to find it. The only way for me to get a good sandwich is to make it myself at home so when I go on vacation I will seek out sandwich places I like.

The thing about Disney is there's generally something for everyone and no one needs to eat what they don't want. Having sandwiches wouldn't hurt anyone, it wouldn't be the only option.

This has been one of the more hilarious "disagreements" I've read on here in awhile.

Just some images of the new update that will come through.

Why wouldn't they check to make sure that your ID matches your VaccinePass?
DLP never answered that question. But probably they do not want issues at the gate, happiest place on earth etc. They seem to want to trust people, and I think that will work for the majority of those who are otherwise excluded. The majority of people are good people who do not think a Disney park is worth committing fraude for.

In certain European countries you need to use the app, with your vaccine QR code, and when you log in, you are identified with your social security number. I do not believe France is one of them, a printed qr is also accepted and makes it easier to cheat the system.

Everywhere it says they can check your ID, so maybe a way to encourage people not to cheat.

Theme Park Availability Starting To Book Up For Spring Break Season At Walt Disney World

For Disney Resort guests, only some parks are available on select days, while on March 14th, all parks are no longer available. Same for Theme Park Ticket holders. Annual Passholders currently have all parks on all days available.

Okay, this is the last post I'll make about sandwiches I swear. Again, Disney does serve sandwiches, they just don't have a dedicated only sandwich shop in the parks but they do have one in Disney Springs. Here is every sandwich I could find in just MK (I excluded breakfast sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, uncrustables, and tacos which are sandwich like but I think not in the spirit of what people are looking for).

Columbia Harbour House
Lobster Roll Chilled Lobster with a touch of Mayonnaise on a New England-style Bun and served with French Fries $16.99

Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe
Barbecued Chicken Sandwich topped with Kale Slaw and served with French Fries $11.99

Gaston's Tavern
Ham, Provolone, and Swiss Sandwich served with Chips $10.99

Golden Oak Outpost
Slue Foot Sue Fried Fish Sandwich with Cilantro Lime Slaw and Poblano Mayonnaise $12.99

Main Street Bakery
Roast Beef Sandwich with Chips $10.99

Sleepy Hallow
Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich Served with Stawberries, Bananas, Blueberries, Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread $8.29

Sweet-and-Spicy Chicken-Waffle Sandwich Broccoli Slaw with a Honey-Sriracha Glaze served with House-made Chips $10.49

As you can see, Disney does try and cater to a multitude of tastes, I even came across a surprising number of salads and plant based options. Are they all in the same fresh food only CS location? No, because an entire group of people vacationing together is unlikely to all order the same type of food so they try and have a number of options available at each CS. You may have to look through multiple restaurants to find what you want, but chances are something similar can be found.

VIDEO: Go INSIDE Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in Disney World

Walt Disney Imagineering just released a video on Instagram featuring Liz Diaz, a Senior Ride Development Engineer. The clip shows her talking about her job as an engineer on the Cosmic Rewind project. We also get a look at the Starjumpers inside the ride, which is the name of the ride vehicles

*video is included in the blog post

I don't think they can get rid of Hulu. Hulu isn't only Disney related programming. It has programming from other stations than Disney-owned stations.

The majority of the Hulu programming is Disney owned after the Fox acquisition. Getting rid of Hulu adds some other complications with things like Hulu live. But over the next few years D+ will need to expand it's viewership as direct competition to NetFlix instead of just a niche product marketed to Disney fans. I envision them adding another section to the top menu with the Disney/Marvel/Star Wars/Nat Geo and add a Fox/FX section. Along with a price increase (obviously) they can roll most of the Fox owned stuff into D+ and still keep Hulu around for a bit for folks with the live TV and streaming options.

Hulu used to be Fox, Disney and NBCUni, and I think NBC still owns ~ 1/3. But with Disney owning Fox and NBC now has Peacock, once the contracts are figured out it seems there is no need for Hulu down the road

You are correct, accept Disney signed an agreement with Comcast to buyout their interest sometime in the future.
